It was almost midnight when I got in. My phone rang as I opened the front door. I ignored it but as I stuffed my key back into my satchel I spotted five new messages. Slowly I put the phone up to my ear and pressed a button to start the voice messages.

Four hours later I was still up. There was no hope of sleep now. Outside my window I saw a sliver of sand and dark water glinting invitingly under a large white full moon. Silently I opened the dresser and pulled out my swimming trunks and grabbed my flip-flops. Yes, a night swim would clear my head. I snuck out of the house feeling alive for the first time in...well a long time. (Sarah)

It was stifling that night. Avia hadn't much trouble in sleeping (and snoring) but she'd had both a rant and a run so she was exhausted. Meanwhile I had nothing but a gnawing worry. I looked out at the dark beach and then to the clock on the shelf. 5:30. The sun would be up soon. Silently I slipped out of bed and collected some clothes before heading for the bathroom.

"An early walk will clear my head." I whispered to myself as I shut the front door. (Sarah)

Away from the glare of the street lamps it was dark and cold. The waves roared into the beach following its own unique pattern. Slowly someone else appeared out of the black.

Oh no... (Sarah)

"What do you want?" said Caspian with a hostile edge to his voice. He was wearing a pair of shorts and had some sandals. He must have been for a swim. I glared at him hoping to look suitably terrifying. I knew that would be asking too much of course.

"I just fancied a walk which wasn't a crime when last I looked." I said holding my chin up defiantly. Wow I really was going theatrical... (Sarah)

"Not a crime? Ha. Like that's original." He jeered.

"Look change the record would you?" I snapped.

"Oooo change the record!" He sneered holding his hand up like a puppet.

I don't normally like confrontations (if you haven't already gathered) so I can't explain what happened next... (Sarah)

"Look. What is your problem? I've done nothing to you." I was planning to keep it short and walk away with a quiet dignity but something took over and I kept going.

"Absolutely nothing," I repeated furiously "Yet you decide to have a go at me in the library. You hardly know me. I'd never do something like that to someone I'd only just met and had to share a house with. Actually I feel sorry for you. You're just a sad, twisted, bitter person with no friends or people who care about you. Your brother only sticks around because he feels like he has to as no one else will. You're nothing but poison so just...STAY AWAY FROM ME!" I screamed the last few words which bounced off the high cliffs.

Caspian said nothing, in fact my sudden outburst had taken him by surprise. He probably didn't get many retaliations. Well he'd have to get used to them from me if he tried to bully me again.

"Fine..." I heard him say quietly as I stalked past him down the beach. It sounded stunned but soon he'd be back to his unpleasant self so I kept walking fast until I was sure that he could no longer see me then I stopped and started to look out to see. (Sarah)

My outburst hadn't made me feel any better. In fact I felt hollow and sour. I shivered in the cold sea breeze. I put my arms around myself trying to steady my scrambled thoughts. Though I knew that I couldn't apologise. I just wouldn't...
