Amy sat on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and looked up at the person on the chair in front of her.

“Thanks for the help, you were the first person I thought off and I was in kind of a mess so here we are.”

“Well I’m glad you’re the first person I thought off but I’ve got one little question: who was that guy and what was that little kiss about?”
“Andy!”

Andy Castellan laughed,

“Sorry kiddo, just a bit worried here. My little sister is running around at night with guys in sports car. You must admit it’s a scary thought.”

Amy blushed, “It’s not like that. Jason’s just a friend from school,”

“Only a friend?”

“Andy!”

“Sorry, sorry, do carry on,”
“So as I was saying; he’s just a good friend, he invited me over to the training center earlier and took me horse back riding. We kind of lost track of time so I called Kate to cover for me with Angelista so I’d be able to get home without her noticing that I was out after curfew. Unfortunately for me, Jason insisted in driving me back but having a guy drive me home is like the biggest no no in the planet so I told him to drive me here in the hope that my wonderful older brother would bail me out.”

He chuckled “Wonderful older brother, huh? Ok, I’ll believe your “we’re just friends” story for now cause we’re in a hurry. I take it’s Plan Macedonia?”

Amy nodded and Andy got up, “Then we better get moving cause this could get ugly.”
Andy drove her straight home and parked down the street. He turned on his seat to look at her,

“You know what you have to do?”

“Yep”

“Ok then, I’ll see you soon.”

Amy nodded and gave him a hug, “Thanks Andy, I owe ya.”

Andy put his hand over his heart “I live to serve the honorable members of the AAS.”

Amy laughed and hit him playfully before slipping out of the car and jogging off down the street.
With the house in sight she pulled her cell out and sent a quick text to Kate telling her where she was, a few seconds later she received the all clear.

She hurried around the back of the house and slipped into the garden, watching carefully for any signs of Angelista at the windows.

When she was certain that there was no one around she hurried inside and closed the door with a relieved sigh.

“You ok?” Sarah asked.

Amy nodded and sent Andy a quick text telling him that she was safe and sound. He quickly responded and told her to watch her six. Military guys, she thought smiling fondly.
“So?” Kate asked raising an eyebrow.

“So what,” Amy asked innocently.

“Oh come of it. You guys met up and you were with him when you called me. That was not your cell phone number I saw on the screen,”

“Ok, so he had me meet him at the Equestrian Center outside of town and took me riding,”

“You don’t even know how to ride!” Michael protested.

Amy shushed him before continuing with the story. “He taught me how to, it’s actually lots of fun. So we kind of lost track of time and when I went to call Kate my cell didn’t have a signal so Jason lent me his. He then insisted on driving me home which sent alarms ringing in my head. You should see his car! Red sports car, so expensive you’d probably need to sell this house twice, heck three times before you could buy that car!”
“He is stinking rich,” Michael admitted. Kate glared at them and urged her to continue.

“Sorry, where was I? Oh, yeah. He insisted on driving me home which was a huge no way so I gave him Andy’s address and then Andy interrogated me and drove me here, he says hi by the way.”
Sarah and Lucy squealed and grabbing Amy they started dancing around happily.

“Oh my gosh! That’s so sweet! Did he walk you to the door?”

“He wanted to but I felt too bad and told him I’d be fine,”

“Awww!”

“Ladies, ladies, please! You’re forgetting the most vital and crucial part, the car!” Michael cried out causing a wave of laughter to explode in the room.
Amy looked forward to the weekends much more nowadays; since her first riding experience she’d been riding with him almost every weekend and had improved greatly.

They’d leave early on Saturday morning with a picnic basket and come back around 6 in the afternoon.
It had taken her some time but she had gotten over her initial shyness around him and found that it was just as easy talking to him as it was talking to Kate, Michael, Sarah, Lucy or Andy; maybe even easier cause he listened to her dreams and hopes without raising an eyebrow like Kate would, making her feel rather foolish. It was nice talking to him. One Saturday as they rode back to the training grounds he was unusually quiet and thoughtful.

“Penny for your thoughts. You ok?” she asked.

“Yeah sorry, just thinking about some stuff.”

She looked at him concerned and he smiled warmly, “Honestly, I’m fine. Can you afford to take a detour?” he asked tentatively.
He knew that her curfew was really strict so they made sure to be back to the training center with time to spare before he drove her up to Andy’s house.

He didn’t know that she really didn’t live there but she preferred it that way, less questions to be answered.

If she was early she’d eat dinner with Andy, joking and goofing off before he drove her home. It was a hustle but it worked out.
Amy bit her lip and looked at her friend, she generally would’ve said that it was better if she didn’t but she was worried about him so she sighed,

“Sure, I guess it won’t matter much if I’m a bit late once.”

Jason grinned “Come on, you’ll like this.”

As they trotted down the path he grinned “How about we put some speed into these two slowpokes?”

“Jason, I don’t know if…” “Come on, it’ll be fun!”
She bit her lip and seeing her indecision he grinned and took off forcing her to quickly follow, they’d never gone faster than a fast trot but she was a good enough rider to be able to pull off a full gallop and before long she was laughing and the wind hit her face.

Jason glanced back at her and smiled before slowing down a bit and leading her up a narrow path she’d never been on.

By the time they got to the top she had a huge grin on her face.
“Told you it’d be fun,” Jason said helping her down.

Amy nodded and leaned against him feeling rather winded. “I’m not used to those speeds,”

“I drive way faster than that!” he laughed.

“Yeah but that’s a car, with a seat belt and low altitude!”

Jason laughed and gave her a few seconds to get her bearings back. Amy blushed when she realized she was leaning against him.

“Sorry,”

“Don’t worry. Come on I want to show you something.”
He led her towards the gazebo on the edge of the mountain that led onto a wooden terrace overlooking the city.

Beyond it the lake shimmered orange and the sounds of the nearby falls soothed her just as much as the pine tree breeze.

“This place is beautiful!” she gushed.

Jason smiled at her, “I often come here to think, when I’ve got time I mean, it’s not precisely close to pretty much anywhere useful but that’s okay. I don’t know it sounds stupid but this place makes me feel better, let’s me think.”
“I get it,” Amy said joining him at the banister “We all need a special place where we can go to clear our head. Everyone needs to get away every so often, some more than others but we all need to do so, at some point”

They stood there for a few moments just watching the sunset, both of them knowing that she should get going but neither saying a word.
Eventually, he pulled away from the railing and led her back to the horses.

They got back to the training center and into the car without a word. He seemed distracted and she knew better than interrupting when people got so pensive.

“So, prom’s coming up, you going?” he asked as they drove.

“I don’t think so, no,”

“Why?”

“Oh, I don’t know, I guess there are a lot of reasons why. Perhaps the main one is that I’m not a party girl.”

He nodded and pulled over in front of the house, “You should, it’ll be fun.”

She hesitated and he smiled, “Go on, you don’t want to get into trouble, do you?” She shook her head and got out.
Just as she started walking up towards the door Jason called her back,

“Amy! I hope you do, it wouldn’t be the same without you.”

With that he left, leaving her standing on the driveway stunned.

Andy walked over and put his arm around her, “Come on, I’ll drive you home.”

She didn’t know if he’d heard; she knew he probably had but he didn’t ask and she was grateful. Jason’s comment had stunned her and she needed to process.
Monday came pretty fast, Amy was glad it had cause the others had noticed that there was something on her mind and were watching her concerned. The girls had tried talking to get but she’d just said that it was nothing that she just had stuff on her mind. They dropped it.

Michael however didn’t. As they walked into school on Monday he stopped her and puller her away from the throng of students.
“You ok?”

“Yeah, shouldn’t I?”

“I don’t know you tell me; you’ve been acting a bit strange since Saturday,” Michael replied before a thought dawned on him and he frowned, “Did Jason do something to you? Cause if he did I’ll beat the pulp out of him,”

“Don’t! He didn’t do anything to me; he just said something that left me a bit confused, that’s all.”

He visibly relaxed and taking a deep breath asked “You want to talk about it?”
“I don’t know, I mean it’s stupid and all but I can’t stop thinking about it,”

“He likes you a lot, you know? I probably shouldn’t be telling you this but you’re my sister and I think you ought to know that he really likes, he hasn’t said anything but I know him and I see how he looks at you,”
“For real?”

“For real,” Michael laughed and hugged her, “Don’t worry, sis, he’ll ask you out eventually,” Amy blushed and he laughed.

He put his arm around her and the duo walked up to the school, oblivious to the guy watching them.
