Well Hi! Long time, no see! Things have been really crazy this last year or so. I hope you all have been doing well. As you can see... we finally got us a place! There is a lot to tell so get comfy.
Lets see, where to start... I guess I'll start with Uncle Davin and Deanna first...
Lets see, where to start... I guess I'll start with Uncle Davin and Deanna first... They are still living in the same house. However, they did do some rennovating. We had a pretty bad storm early on this year and It tore a lot of the siding, shingles and the garage door off the house. Uncle Davin was too busy to deal with it, so he just hired some people to come and install new siding and repair what was broken. It sure doesn't look like it did when we first moved in. I remember it being so small. Deanna had a rough pregnancy. She had doctor's orders not to be on her feet much. Uncle Davin did everything for her. Cleaned the house, did laundry, he even hired some extra people at the toy store so he could work from home, just in case she needed him. He even did toilets! I never heard him complain...
Well, except once... Deanna accidently got sick on his laptop. But he never let Deanna see that it upset him. She couldn't help it, after all. Finally the day arrived. However, none of us were prepared for what happened. Instead of one girl, as the doctor had told them to expect, they got twin boys! Apparently there was a chart mix-up. After a couple days in the hospital, Deanna was released along with little Marshall and Maverick. I have never seen Uncle Davin as happy as he was the day the babies got to come home. Deanna still had orders to stay in bed for a few days after her realease from the hospital, so Uncle Davin, Jaq and I looked after the little ones. Marshall was clearly a "Mama's Boy" from the start. He would whine and cry if anyone else tried to play with him besides Deanna. Marshall and Maverick's first birthday arrived so fast. We had a big party for them. Uncle Davin helped them blow out their candles.
They are nearly 2 now and little terrors. Well Marshall is, anyway. Maverick is more quiet and shy. Uncle Davin says he takes after my father, which fits because that's who he was named after.
I have a recent picture of them in my purse... Here it is. That's Marshall picking his nose. In other news, I got a job a few months ago. I was interviewed for a position as a tour guide at the McFayden Art Museum in Missibay, a little town to the east of Pleasantview. It isn't far from the ocean!
Anyway, I was so nervous prior to and during the interview. It didn't help that I was actually interveiwed by Mr. McFayden himself. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't know that ahead of time... I may have thrown-up. After a long line of questioning, the interveiw was finally over. I nearly jumped out of my seat when he said I got the job and started the next day! I had told him during the interview, when he asked about my current residence, that my friend and I were looking for a place to live, but hadn't had much luck finding anything. As he walked me to the door he told me that his mother had passed away a couple years back and that the duplex that he now owns was currently empty. He explained that it was furnished and he would be willing to charge a low rent as long as we would clean it and be willing to fix it up a bit. From what he told me it sounded like things were a little out-dated.
I agreed to come take a look at it that weekend. I walked out of his office and headed to the exit when I heard someone call my name. I turned around to see who it was. I was a little shocked to see it was Katy from high school. She was so mean to me when we were younger. I pushed that thought out of my head, smiled at her and asked her how she had been. She told me about college and dropping out early to marry a man from her father's company. Apparently it hadn't lasted and she was on her way to talk to Mr. McFayden (who is also one of her father's friends) about a job at his museum. She went on to tell me how handsome Mr. McFayden is(Like I coudln't see it for myself). Then she went on about him being wealthy (though not as wealthy as she is).
"Just wait," she told me. " I'll get this job and you will see how far I get..." "Not very far I'm afraid," Mr. McFayden said as he walked out of the office. "You see, I just hired Miss Dartanya for the job. I'm afraid you must stop before you start."
I watched with amusement as Katy's face turned as red as her dress. "But Daddy called and told you I was coming! Why did you hire her?!" She fumed.
"She was here first, and qualified. I'm afraid you will have to go tell daddy to hassle another friend for you a job." He nodded at us both, turned and walked back into his office. Katy ran after him.
"Well how about you take me to dinner then?", I heard her say.
I giggled to myself as I walked to my car. The next day was great! I left out some key points and rambled on about the paintings a little longer than I should have during the first few tours. But by the end of the day I had it down. The last one of the night I even saw Mr. McFayden listening as I lead a group of people around. I met my co-workers. Ralph, who runs the little coffee and souvenier shop, is very friendly. He even invited Jaq and me to go with him to a local karaoke bar. I thought that was great, especially since I didn't know much about the town, or where anything was. During my break I was heading to the coffee shop when I rounded the corner and saw Katy flirting up a storm with Mr. McFayden. I felt kind of sorry for him. He looked miserable, or maybe bored. I walked away before Katy could see me. Jaq arrived at closing time to pick me up. I took her through a quick tour of the museum. She went crazy over some of the more modern peices of art.
I walked to Mr. McFayden's office to tell him I was leaving for the day and to make sure there wasn't anything else he wanted me to do, but he wasn't there. I searched for a while and came across a new wing of the museum that wasn't completed yet, and still blocked off by ropes. I let myself under the rope and walked around taking it all in. At the end of the long hall something caught my eye that made my heart stop for a breif moment. A painting that was hanging there took me by suprise. I stood looking at it for a while, tears in my eyes.
"It's nice isn't it?" Mr. McFayden said as he walked up behind me. I jumped at the sound of his voice. I didn't hear him approach me. "I got it in France," he continued. "It is one of my favorites, though I have no idea who the artist is..."
"Was." I said quietly.
"What?" Mr. Mcfayden asked, confused.
"The artist was William Maverick Jordon." I said , tears streaming now.
I dried them quickly with a napkin from my purse and went on to tell him about my father. That he was never very famous, but was an amazing painter just the same. I also showed him where he signed every painting with a WMJ in the top left corner, never the bottom like other artists. Mr. McFayden was very impressed to hear about it all, and excited to finally learn who the artist was. He told me he was going to order a plaque and get it engraved with my father's name, so he could get the credit he deserves, like the other artists in the museum do.
I thanked him, said goodnight, and left him to deal with a very angry Katy who had been waiting for him to take her home (she had conveniantly lost the keys to her car).
I walked out to the car where Jaq was waiting for me. I rode with Jaq to her modeling agency.
Oh , yeah... Jaq got a modeling contract! Forgot to tell you that.
Anyways, we got there about 10 minutes late but they didn't seem to mind. We rushed to Jaq's dressing room to get her ready for her photo shoot. In the room I told Jaq about what all happened that day and about agreeing to go look at the duplex the following weekend. Jaq seemed pretty excited about the possibility of getting our own place. She asked a ton of questions as she changed, none I knew the answer to, seeing as how I had never seen the place. Then I told her about seeing my father's painting in the museum and what Mr. McFayden said he would do with getting a plaque engraved, showing my father credit. I couldn't help it, but I broke down crying as I was telling her. Jaq said nothing. She knew it was better to just let me have my cry.
After I regained my composure Jaq asked me to watch her photo shoot and offer some constructive criticism, if I had any. Jaq is a natural at modeling. I'm too skinny and a little too shy. She did great . They had her in swimsuits... Evening wear... and even PJ's. When she finished we headed to a nearby restaurant for dinner. I listened as Jaq told me all the latest gossip. She told me Blayne had called that afternoon inviting us to dinner on Sunday (She said he called my cell, but I had left it at home). I was happy to hear that he had called. Blayne and I don't get to see each other as often now. He has been working for an architectural firm out of Pleasantview. He stays busy. After dinner we ran by the grocery store to pick up some groceries that Deanna said she needed. I hate grocery shopping with Jaq. All she does is rush me along, complain she's cold, and doesn't help me carry anything. The next morning at noon, after a quick trip by Deanna's salon so Jaq could get her hair trimmed, we met Mr. McFayden at the adress he gave me. It looked great from the outside. As he unlocked the door and walked in Jaq turned to me and said, "You know, for an older dude he has a nice tushie."
Trying to hide my laughter I swatted her on the arm and pushed her inside. The expression on Jaq's face when we walked in was great. The look of complete horror on her face when she saw the walls covered in flowers and ancient furniture was priceless.
He gave us a complete tour, each room more horrible and out-dated than the last. He also told us that he lived next door. He had moved there when his mother became ill so he could to be close to her. When she died, he couldn't bring himself to leave. About 30 Minutes into our visit Blayne called and I told him where we were. He came over to look at the place and meet Mr. McFayden.
In the end we agreed to move in. Mr. McFayden had quoted us a $400 rent and the permission to paint and redecorate as we please.
"Just nothing too outragious," He said.
"Don't worry," Jaq said. "I'll let 'Tanya do the decorating."
We both laughed.
Mr. McFayden looked satisfied. He said goodbye with a nod, turned and left. The following night we got dressed up and went to pick up Blayne for our night out. When we got there however, Blayne met us on the porch.
He told us that Samuel, his cousin, had shown up earlier that afternoon saying he needed a place to stay. I was excited and worried at the same time. I hadn't seen Sam since we went to the prom together. All I had heard since is he was working as a graphic designer and living with Lidia, his girlfriend. I went upstairs and was not expecting to see what I did. He looked horrible. He was skinny, had bags under his eyes like he hadn't slept in weeks. His hair was long and stringy and he hadn't shaved in days. The big brown eyes and bright red hair were the only things that looked the same.
I asked him how it was going and he began to tell me everything... Lidia was working as a personal assistant for an up-and-coming fashion designer. After a successful fashion show, Sam had taken her to a romantic restaurant and proposed. Lidia, too scared to commit, not only told him no, but also told him she was moving to Paris and it was best if they just ended the relationship entirely. "Lets just be friends," Sam said as he finished his story. "That has the be the worst four words ever."
I gave him a hug and told him I was sorry that he had to go through that. And that maybe Lidia will get to Paris and see that it isn't worth being without him and will come back.
"What if she doesn't?" he asked me.
"Well, then you know it wasn't meant to be and there is another person out there waiting for you to come along and love them and give them everything you were giving Lidia. The only difference is, that other person will appreciate it and give some happiness back to you.
"That big heart of yours will be given to someone who actually deserves it, then." Jaq said, from the corner of the kitchen. "You two seem so sure of this," Sam said. " How is it you know so much?"
"Well lets see," Jaq replied. " We are smart, pretty, funny, intelligent women, maybe?"
Sam smiled at Jaq and said, "You are right, you are all those things. But just in case you didn't know... 'smart' and 'intelligent' mean the same thing."
Jaq looked confused a minute as Sam and I howled with laughter.
"Well, Oh-Wise-Ones, where do I begin to look for this other person?" Sam asked us.
"First you cut your hair, shave and take a shower," Jaq said. "We will work on the rest afterwards." "Have your way with me, then." Sam said.
Jaq grabbed some scissors from the drawer as I grabbed a chair and sat Sam down in it.
Jaq took over from there. **Dartanya yawns**
Well, I don't know about you but I'm getting pretty sleepy. I have to work tomorrow so I need to get to bed. Come back soon and I'll continue with my story. Have a good night!
