A Note from the Author:
RICHMOND is an ongoing tale - the story is not completely planned, but the courses the people involved choose in life will alter the ending. This is a short prologue to whet your appetite - by no means will you meet all the characters yet. But sit back, relax, and enjoy the treachery, lies, secrets and love in the tale of The Richmond Aristocracy.

The house is dark - the pine trees that once offered so much beauty now serve only as a barrier against the prying eyes of the outside world. The palace looks like the dream home, still standing strong after 100 years after it was first built. However, cracks are beginning to show on the inside, and this sorry string of events could bring the whole family - and the house - tumbling down to the ground. This is Richmond. The girl stands at the window, gazing out as if in wonderment at the world beyond. She is well-dressed, but something about her sombre attire and slumped shoulders tells of a being who is downtrodden, whose life is dustier than the age-old furnishings. So entranced is she by the world beyond she doesn't notice the businesslike woman standing behind her, a pointy-faced woman whose only truly femenine attribute is her long, powdery white hair. The woman walks towards the girl, and the girl registers a look of surprise - she tries to move past the woman, but she is too late. "Esther!" the woman cries. "Once again I find you dreaming away by this window! I took you into my home out of sheer goodness, and I will not have you dilly-dallying the time away. There is work to be done." Esthers gentle features crease into a grimace, it is easy to see her hatred for this woman is not only skin-deep, but burns her to the core. She is about to tell this woman what she thinks of her when she notices the man seated at the sofa, his eyes gazing upward from his book with faint amusement. Esther freezes, whilst the woman continues to rant and rave. Quick as a flash, Esther darts down the stairs to the kitchens, where she hastily tries to regain all the time she has lost in her day-dreaming. The woman strolls gently over to the man, and they kiss gently as silence decends again over the drab corridor, Esthers frantic, echoing footsteps fading away. The pair of them slowly walk downstairs to get ready for their meal, feeling not the slightest shred of guilt about how they treated their slave. After twenty-five years, they have almost forgotten how she is their daughter. The Richmond story will continue soon in narrative form, with Chloe Richmond taking the voice of the author.
