Hey, everyone!

So here is my first story (well, the Intro). I'm going to be introducing my full story through about 10 chapters. I am aiming at a teenage audience so the story is quite simple in wording (approved by my 12 year old sister lol).

Hey, everyone!

Brooke Clayton is an ordinary teenage girl, with an ordinary life and and goes to an ordinary school. Her life soon changes when she gets caught up in a friend's secret - one that she has to choose whether to accept or turn her back on.
It was early one Friday morning and Brooke had awoken again from that same strange dream.

Although it was only 5:15 in the morning, she decided to start getting ready for school.

This will take my mind off things, she thought.
Once she had finished with her shower and brushed her teeth, she got dressed into her school uniform.

“I hope I don’t see Daryl again today. That guy is just weird…” she whispered, grabbing her iPod and leaving the room.
Whilst having her cereal, she thought back to her dream and how strange it was to keep having the same dream over and over again.

She decided to text her friend, Annabelle, to tell her to get ready because she’d be picking her up very soon.
Ever since Brooke moved to this house a few weeks ago, she had been having these dreams and even seeing odd things in the corner of her eye – only to look and it’d be gone…

Brooke sighed. “I need to talk to someone about this or I’m going to go crazy. I think I have to confess to Annabelle.”
“What do you mean by strange things, B?” asked Annabelle, thoughtfully.

“I don’t know… but I know one thing; I need to stay away from Daryl Marston. He’s in my dreams too – telling me I need to accept who I am and protect this… place.”

“Protect what place?” A puzzled look suddenly written on Annabelle’s face.

“I can’t remember, I forget the name every time I wake up… Anyway we better get to school.”
“Don’t look now, B, but Daryl is heading to the library. We should wait up until more people start coming into school”, suggested Annabelle.

“Isn’t it weird how he’s in school early when we are? I don’t believe he comes in early all the time. I don’t like this, Anna.”
Annabelle started to think that Brooke was going over the top with this whole Daryl thing, which made her laugh.
“Come on, B. Let’s go see if the cafeteria is open for breakfast yet.” Anna encouraged.

As they headed to the lunch room, they chatted about what they plan to do over the weekend and Brooke had to be reminded what homework needed doing.

Annabelle Orrick was the first person to talk to Brooke at the school and is currently her closest friend. Well.. Her only friend.

The only other person that showed much interest was Daryl Marston – an outsider with a strange personality. The kind that stops mid-sentence, gazes elsewhere and then walks away. Just like that.

In her first week, Brooke was paired up with him for a science project and noticed he’d often react strangely if she’d try to touch the equipment. He literally smacked her hand away when she tried to use the Bunsen burner!

He quickly mumbled a sorry and told her to let him finish off. she huffed, folded her arms and let him do all the work.

Every time she tried to make conversation with him, he seemed to close up and mumbled unintelligible babble.
It was the start of History class so Brooke took her usual seat at the back, on her own, and turned her text book to the Medieval Period.

Although difficult, Brooke managed to listen to most of the lecture before spacing out.

~~~ A crystal necklace. Amber in colour, with wing-like pendants connecting to the base.
“It may just look pretty, but it’s designed to enhance your power”, stated Daryl.
Brooke eyed it curiously, “Why are you giving it to me?”
It was weird that as soon as Brooke started thinking of Daryl again, he interrupts the lesson and she shot her head up in surprise.
“Sorry, Mr Slaney. Brooke is needed in the office”, said Daryl with a smirk whilst handing the teacher a note.
They both walked silently until Brooke slowed down to be able to talk to him.
“So what have I done wrong?” joked Brooke.
“I don’t know the reason for the principle wanting you… I just happened to be around so she sent me.” replied Daryl.
“And why did you just happen to be around during class time?” challenged Brooke.
He grinned, “mischief, as always.”
Brooke sighed and remained quiet on their way to the office, deciding whether or not to mention the weird things going on with her lately.
What if Daryl has nothing to do with it and it’s just my imagination, I’d sound like a total freak! Thought Brooke.
“Hey, Brooke…” Daryl began, “I don’t suppose you did the history assignment this week?”
Brooke stared at him in confusion. “You’re not even in my class”, she replied.
“I’m transferring. My grades are improving and Mrs Thompson thinks I should change class. She said I’d need to ask someone about this week’s assignment so I can stay caught up for next lesson.”
Brooke sighed lightly and began weighing her options. What could it hurt? Maybe he’s not as bad as she thought.
“Um, how about after school? We could meet in the library”, Brooke offered. She considered asking Anna to stick around.
“Sure, that’d be a big help. Thanks.” He gave her a kind smile to show his appreciation.
It turned out the office just wanted to inform Brooke of a phone call from her mother about her working late tonight. After school, she headed to the library to meet up with Daryl.
Whilst at the library, she sat at one of the desks and began explaining her notes to him. When it was time to go home, she gave him her number and email address just in case.
“Thanks, Brooke. I appreciate the help.” He flashed her one of those smiles again and they both parted ways.
Brooke found herself talking to Anna about her afternoon with Daryl and confessed to finding it ‘not that bad’.
Unexpectedly, she received a message from Daryl: Hey Brooke. Thanks again for the history thing. You seem to be good at it, maybe you could help me with homework more often – D.
She realised that she, too, wouldn’t mind doing it again but left the reply for later.
He seemed quite relaxed in the library today and let out some jokes about TV shows that they both liked.
Wasn’t it just this morning that I said I needed to stay away from him? Thought Brooke. There’s just something about him, something I can’t place.
She found it strange how he didn’t act weird in the slightest today, which made him otherwise seem like an OK guy.
Brooke finished talking to Annabelle and shut down her laptop to get ready for bed. She promised herself that she’d found out the reasons for Daryl’s previous weirdness, and soon.
