The forces of good and evil. The contrast between the two has always been great. But when does one define themselves as one or the other? Some might argue that it's their fate, that one is born with a great evil or a virtuous kindness. But would that mean that said person wouldn't have a choice to the pathes he takes? That all the choices are programmed into him from the very beginning? No, he always has a choice.......
"Yeah! I haven't left yet" he yelled back. "What do you need?"
"I just got a call from the delivery company that was supposed to deliver some manure and mulch that I bought not too long ago, the driver for the company has come down with the flu! of all things" "Would you be able to go and pick it up?" she asked hopeful. Henry checked his watch and asked how far away it was. "Oh not too far" she replied with a smile on her face.
"Of course I'll be able to help, I'll go grab the mulch and manure in the ute and drop it off here. But then I have to head off to work" "Okay, thankyou so much! I'm sorry I have to rely on you so much, but since my licence was revoked, I haven't been able to do much" she sadly replied.
"You know I'm always happy to help you out mum, after all it's always been just you and me." Henry said as he hugged her. Dan woke up from a groggy nights sleep. Parties might be Jacque's scene but they definately didn't suit Dan. Dan hated being as shallow as he was. He was only with Jacque because she was pretty. He was definately not happy with Jacque, they'd always fight. As hard as he tried not to, he couldn't help starting to resent her. As if it was her fault for all the bad choices he'd made. But he didn't have the heart to break up with her. He'd rather be in a horrible relationship than be alone. "Can't you stay?" Jacque asked in her usual whiny tone.
"I told you, I've got a meeting with the board members to discuss the research I've been doing. I've slept in enough." he replied huskily with his hostile voice.
"But you said you didn't have to be there till after lunch time, it's only 11" she said. "I also told you that it takes an hour to get there." Dan bluntly stated.
"Yeah so? It's only 11." she said, wondering why Dan couldn't get her logic.
"So if I-- you know what it doens't matter, I'm sick of explaining everything to you!" He yelled as he started to head for the door. Jacque got up off the bed.
"You don't have to explain everything to me!!" she yelled at him. "Well it's obvious that I do, if you can't even get that in order to be at the meeting I have to leave now" he yelled back.
"You know I'm not as stupid as you think Dan!" she said angrily.
"I don't care Jacque!! I'm leaving. I'll be back tonight." He said Malicously. Dan picked up some clothes from the dresser and left, slamming the door behind him. Henry was on his way back from the gardening place when he noticed his fuel guage was dreadfully low, and conveniently at the same time he realised this he was driving past the gas station. So he drove in filled up the tank and parked his car up the front to pay. At the same time, whilst on his way to his business meeting, Dan also stopped to refuel. Henry walked in and grabbed some fresh OJ while he was there and turned around to head for the counter when he heard a commotion. "Give us the money and no-one gets hurt" he yelled at the cashier clerk. The clerk nervously opened the registar and gave him all the money that was in it. He snatched the money and stuffed it into his pocket, laughed an evil cackle and ran out the door. "Are you alright sir?" Henry asked.
"Yeah" he smiled "You'll get one of those once in a while"
"What happened in here?" Dan asked walking in the door. They explained what happened and then went to find the phone to call the police. When a green mist started coating the tiled floor. They all covered their faces and ran.
"I wonder what that was" Henry stupidly commented.
"Yeah, I'd love to stay and chat but I've got places to be" Dan rudely stated and left in his car. "Yeah I'm sorry I have to go aswell, I've got work in a little over an hour. I hope all goes well with the police and they catch that maniac. I'm sorry I couldn't have been more help" with that Henry left aswell. Henry arrived at his mother's house not long after.
"Hey, you took a while. Was there a lot of traffic?" she asked. Henry didn't want to worry his mum, he thought what she doesn't know won't hurt her.
"Yeah...there was a lot of traffic" he tried to smile, feeling exhausted. "I got to head to work now" he said after he unloaded the manure and mulch. "I'll be back tomorrow to help you spread it" "Look at all this" she said smiling as she brushed bits of dirt and bark off his jumper. "Don't forget that nice young lady you promised me you'd talk to" she beamed. Henry sighed and gave his mum a hug and left. "Hey Jane" Dan smiled. "I've got a meeting with the board members"
"Uhh..umm Daniel" she started.
"Yes?" he replied still smiling.
"The board's not meeting with you today, I'm afraid they've.....they've pulled your funding"
"WHAT!?!?!!" Dan yelled, not caring of the people that were all staring at him.
"I'm sorry." Jane said softly looking down at her computer. Dan left the office in a huff and slammed the door, breaking the glass frame. A few minutes after Dan left.
"I'm taking my coffee break now!" Jane yelled out to her boss.
"Alright!" he yelled back down at her from across the other side of the room. Jane ran across the street to her favourite coffee shop. It just happened to be the same coffee shop Henry worked in. "Uhh...I don't usually do this but uhh would you mind if I sat down here for a minute?" Henry nearly died from his nervousness, it was a miracle he even got the words out. The awkward silence would've killed an elephant. Henry didn't know what to say, his mind went blank. That was until he say the title of her book.
"The Diary of Anne Frank? Do you like it?" he asked nervously.
"I love it" she beamed "It's the 10th time I've read it" she admitted. They kept talking about different books for about half an hour. Henry was surprised by how easy it was to talk to her after the conversation got going.
"Umm, I have to get back to work. But I'd love to continue umm the conversation over...a...ahh..dinner?" Henry gulped on the last word.
"I'd love that" Jane smiled. Henry got home late. He had had a huge day, and was utterly exhausted. He looked around for mittens but couldn't find her. So he filled up her bowl and started heading to bed. "Oh my head" Henry said aloud clutching the side of his head. His headache had become unbearable, the room started spinning around him... He started falling back and suddenly hit the carpet floor full impact. But he didn't notice he was already unconsious. Dan stumbled into his bedroom reaking of beer. But the smell wasn't the only way to tell he'd been drinking. Jacque followed him and he quickly turned around and grabbed her into a passionate kiss. It wasn't like him to do something like that even if he had been drinking.
"Dan what happened?" she asked in between breaths.
"Nothing." he replied. She couldn't argue with him, if he didn't want to tell her then she had no way of finding out. So she went with the moment and kissed him back. Dan's tight grip started fading....Jacque opened her eyes to see what was wrong. Dan's eyes rolled into the back of his head as he started slowly falling toward the ground. "DAN!!!!" Jacque screamed.......
