There's an unmistakable bond between family. They're the people that know you the most, but is that what that bond is? That they've known you for your whole life? Or is it something else? If you'd never met a family member but suddenly got the opportunity to, would that bond be there?

There's an unmistakable bond between family. They're the people that know you the most, but is that what that bond is? That they've known you for your whole life? Or is it something else? If you'd never met a family member but suddenly got the opportunity to, would that bond be there? "My father?" Henry asked puzzled.
"He had the same abilities you're describing. Here come with me I want to show you something"
"Thank-you honey, I would go up myself, but I fear I may not come back down" she smiled.
"Yeah, I know. You and heights"
"No, no. Me and spiders"
"Spiders?"
"Yeah last time I was up there I found a whole nest."
"Oh....great..." his voice trailed off as he stepped off the last rung of the ladder and up into the attic.
"What exactly am I looking for up here?"
"There should be a box, marked 'Hugh', you might have to look around"
"Got it! Is that all you want from up here?"
"Yep. That's it"
"Alright coming down"
"Be careful!"
"I think I was wrong before" Dan said as he walked up to Jacque harvesting her hydroponic flowers.
"Wrong? About what?"
"When I said I thought it was a combination of the toxin and the genome. I found that the toxin didn't do anything but speed the process up."
"What do you mean?" asked Jacque still tending to her plants.
"I mean that I think this was always going to happen, the abilities. It looks like the genome wasn't fully mature but the toxin sped it up. Do you know what that means?" he asked. Jacque still not quite paying attention to what Dan was talking about replied "What does it mean?"
"There's a 50/50 chance that the baby could have these abilities"
"There's something I should have told you a long time ago."
"About my father?"
"Yes, aswell as other things. I should have told you more about your father when you were growing up, and I'm sorry that I didn't"
"I know you didn't like to talk about him after he died"
"He didn't die. He left us."
"I know I shouldn't have let you believe that he was dead, but that's what he wanted."
Henry was silent, how could his father be alive?
"It doesn't make sense" Henry said utterly confused.
"I'll start from the beginning, hopefully it will all make sense"
"We were looking at houses while I was heavily pregnant. I'd just been to the doctor the day before and found out we were expecting twins..." "Do you really think we can afford this?"
"I know we can. I'll start running extra shifts at the car yard if you're worried about money. You know we can't stay at the unit after the babies are born, it's too small."
"You're right, I know you're right"
"So you like the house?"
"I love it!"
"I'm glad you said that, I put the deposit in yesterday. The house is ours"
"Really??" Maggie asked getting excited.
"Welcome to your new home!"
"We were so excited. A new home, with twins on the way."
"Twins? You had twins before you had me?"
"No Henry, you were one of those twins"
"I don't understand"
"I know you don't understand, but you will when I've finished"
"I found out shortly after the twins were born. I knew something was up. Hugh, your father, got fired from his job at the car yard because he was never there. But he was never at home either. My first thought went to he was having an affair. I was at my wits end, taking care of twins with a husband having an affair" "Daniel and Henry are down, they'll be asleep for a good couple of hours" Maggie stated as she entered the room. "Hugh? Did you hear me?"
A long silence followed.
"Hugh I need to talk to you"
"Hugh! I just got a call from the car yard. You haven't been there for a month. Hugh they let you go" she said softly. He wasn't listening though.
"You haven't been at work and you haven't been here. My imagination is running wild with different scenarios of where you've been, but there's only one reason, one place you've been going, with one person. I don't think I can do this anymore"
Hugh was listening now. As his gaze left the television screen, he slowly stood.
"You can't really think that?" Hugh asked.
"What else can I possibly think?"
Hugh paused "I can't believe you would think I'd do that"
"Well go on make up another explanation, insult me with your excuses"
"I can't" he replied softly.
"So you admit you had an affair"
"No I didn't. Please believe me, I didn't."
"Let's say for argument's sake, that I believe that. Where have you been then?"
"I can't. I can't tell you" he replied softly.
"You can't? Or won't?" she paused "I can't take this, I'm taking Dan and Henry and I'm leaving"
"Mag--"
"Don't Maggie me! You made your choice" she replied in a hushed tone. "It was the worst fight we'd ever had." Maggie said staring at the carpet. "But it was hard to know what was going on with him, because he never said anything. It seemed the only logical thing, him having an affair, but I didn't know how wrong I was" "Maggie would you just wait." Hugh pleaded.
"My bags are packed, and I'm taking the twins" she said as she fixed up the sheets on the bed. Maggie turned around and started to head out of the bedroom as Hugh lightly touched her arm to stop her.
"Wait" he said softly. "You know how they've been talking about that vigilante? Saying how much the crime rate has gone done since he came on the scene? It was me" "You're not honestly going to blame it on the Captain Hero guy? You know that's a new low. Lying about being a superhero to cover up your affair" "Will you just listen to me? I'm telling you the truth! That's where I've been, that's what I've been doing. I'm sorry that I never told you but I'm NOT having an affair, I love you and only you"
"Why didn't you tell me before?" Maggie asked "You didn't have to let it get to this point till you told me"
"I know" Hugh sighed.
"I didn't think you could handle it. I could barely handle it. I had all these new abilities that I didn't know what to do. But I knew I had to do something with them, and that's why I decided to be Captain Hero. To build a better community, a better world for our boys." "I'm sorry" he said softly. "I want to show you something, wait here" Hugh said with a big grin and left the room. "So my father was Captain Hero?" Henry asked.
"He was. I still have the outfit"
"The outfit?"
"The Captain Hero costume, it's in this box here" Maggie said picking up the box Henry got out of the attic and started rifling through it. "Here!" she said triumphantly. "I still remember the first time I saw this" she smiled.
"It was after the fight and after he told me who he was, he ran out of the room for a few minutes and returned wearing it"
"How do I know it's really you?" Maggie grinned but Hugh was clueless. He caught on soon enough. "Like this?" he asked and pulled her into a tender kiss. "Okay, okay, okay! I don't need every detail"
"I wasn't going to give you any more details. Not that anything happened after that...." she trailed off.
"Mum!"
"You didn't answer my questions though. Well you did about dad having the same abilities, but you said you had twins, that I was a twin, that dad left you. You're raising more questions than you're answering" Henry said getting more and more utterly confused.
"Well let me finish then, and stop interrupting me" she smiled again.
"I don't know exactly what happened. It was more a mixture of things. I wasn't coping very well with the twins by myself, and trying to hold down a job and pay for babysitters, while your father was always working and we weren't getting any money from that. Our love just seemed to die, and it was more about making ends meet. "When we finally decided to divorce, it was mutual on both sides and there was no bad feelings. We decided to split the twins up and Daniel went with Hugh." "So you're saying that my father's still alive and I have a brother?" Henry asked.
"Yes. I'll help you get in touch with them if that's what you want. But there's something I want you to consider." she said slowly "Your father managed to do a lot of good things with his abilities, people need someone like him" she said as she lifted up the costume.
"You want me to become Captain Hero?"
"With great power, comes great responsibility"

Claire, that was wonderful! \:rah\: Finally we discover the truth to how Henry and Dan were born with super powers. And how noble of their father to keep the crime rate down and try to create a better world for his sons. I have missed this story and I enjoyed it being a bit longer. \:\)
