Here we are, at last! It's been awhile since I last posted a chapter of this story and I apologise for that but I hope the wait was worth it :-) This is the finale of Someone Special and I'll be sad to say goodbye just as I was with all my previous stories. But, as always, there is a new storyline on the horizon and hopefully you will all like it! I also have one last chapter of Hidden to finish.

I'd just like to say though, there will be a '15 Years On' update on the characters of this story sometime in the near future. It will just be a fun little add-on so you can see what happened to them as the years went by!

Thank you very much to all the wonderful readers of this series and all my stories, your support means a lot to me and it's what keeps me writing!!

Sam
Dan glanced at his young daughter as she walked happily beside him and he could almost feel his heart swell with pride. Over the past two years that she had been in his life, their bond had grown and grown. He was so close to Nadia now that he would rather not live at all than have to try and live without her - especially since they had now lost someone very special to the both of them, forever. Nadia's eyes glimmered with life, as they always did when she was happy, and it made what Dan was about to do that much harder. As much as he didn't want to take that glimmer away, there was no way around it. Dan just hoped it would come back when - or if - she learned to deal with the grief she was going to experience. After a fifteen minute walk, Dan could finally see the spot where he was intending to change Nadia's world. He gently took her hand in his and they walked the remaining distance in silence. Standing atop the cliff, the ocean seemed to infinitely surround them; sparkling and sapphire blue, the water had the power to entrance anyone who passed it and make them wonder what lay beyond its surface.
It was a little like the present, Dan thought, not knowing what lay ahead for him and Nadia. What he did know was that they were going to get through it together, whatever happened.
Dan remembered when he and Macy had stood together in the same spot where he and Nadia stood now. The sun had been slowly setting, the sky splashed with a multitude of colours, and the evening had been etched into his mind as the best he had ever had when they both whispered 'I love you' for the very first time. It was hard for Dan to believe almost a decade had passed since that perfect moment. Somehow, while thinking of the many special moments he once shared with Macy, he sensed she was there with them now and it gave him the strength to tell his daughter what he needed to tell her.
Taking her hand, Dan knelt to meet Nadia's gaze. "There's something I need to tell you, princess, but I need you to be a strong girl. Do you think you can do that for me?" he asked her, gently.
Her eyes instantly softened and he felt her squeeze his hand a little tighter. "What is it, dad?" Lowering her voice to almost a whisper, she added, "Is it mummy?"
Lowering his eyes, Dan slowly nodded. "Yea, sweetie, it's mummy. You know she's been sick for awhile now, and...well, her body didn't want to be sick anymore." Nadia's eyes glistened and Dan realised she already knew what he meant but he continued anyway. "Mummy's gone up to heaven where she can feel better and watch over you whenever she pleases. She loves you more than anything."
Nadia looked up at him and nodded, her lips pressed tight as she tried to hold back tears. "I love her, too, lots and lots. She's not coming back, is she?"
"No." Dan shook his head. "She isn't."
Standing, he wrapped his arms around his little girl so she would know he was here for her even though she already knew. After releasing her from his grasp, she kissed him quickly on the cheek and walked towards the edge of the cliff.
He kept a close eye on the distance between her and the cliff's edge but knew to give her some space. The moisture on his cheek from where she kissed him proved this.
Only minutes away from where Dan and Nadia stood at the clifftop, Nikki and her family were spending the morning together at Sunset Valley Park, unaware of Macy's death the night before.
Carlos sat proudly on the park bench with his arm draped over Nikki's shoulder as they watched their two children playing happily.
Nikki couldn't wipe the smile off her face as she realised how happy she was. The situation which had almost destroyed her marriage two years ago was now a distant memory that only seemed to bring her and Carlos closer together. Nikki was the happiest she had ever been and there were two other reasons, besides how close her family was, for this. The first was the fact that she had been offered a record deal after sending out numerous demo CD's to potential record companies.
She had expressed to Carlos her desire to try again at her failed music career soon after their reconciliation and he had agreed and supported her all the way. And although her attempt became successful much quicker than either of them had expected, there was still a long way to go, of course. It just blew Nikki's mind to think her long awaited career dreams could actually take off!
The other reason for her euphoria was the fact that, the night before, she discovered she and Carlos were expecting another baby. The positive home pregnancy test had come as a complete surprise but couldn't have come at a better time.
Emme was now attending school with her brother and Nikki was excited at the prospect of having a new baby to look after. Sure, it would be busy now that she was attempting to chase her career dreams whilst still taking care of her two children and husband but she knew Carlos would help out as much as he could. Knowing this, she couldn't hold back from telling him the exciting news any longer.
"Do you want to know something incredible?" Nikki asked, teasing.
At her question, Carlos became very curious but pretended to be completely at ease whether or not she told him her news. "Sure," he replied. "What is it?"
"I entered a competition awhile ago and I found out earlier this morning I won! The prize was a house!"
Carlos turned to look at her. "What? Are you serious?"
Seeing the surprise on his face, it was too much for Nikki not to burst out laughing. "No, I'm just kidding. But I do have some news." She watched Carlos' expression and knew his anticipation was growing. Deciding to relieve him, she said, "We're going to have another baby!"
His jaw dropped and he stared at his wife. After several moments, he was finally able to speak again. "My god! Really?"
Nikki nodded, smiling.
"That is better than anything I could have expected...wow!" He exhaled slowly. "We're going to have another baby. Oh, Nikki, you have made my day - my year!"
Carlos sighed and scanned Nikki's face; she was so beautiful, he had always known that, but today she seemed even more so. "You're amazing, you know that?" he whispered.
Pulling her close, their lips met and they kissed tenderly. Although brief, so much was said in that kiss and so much love swept through them that it took their breath away. Nikki knew she had made the right decision when she took Carlos back after what he did. Although it had hurt and she would never be able to forget - she was able to forgive. He definitely showed remorse for his actions and had more than made up for it in the time that had passed.
It was an hour later that Nikki felt hunger pains growing in her stomach. It's definitely time for lunch, she thought.
"Hungry?" she asked Carlos.
He nodded. "Very."
"Ok, I'll get the kids and we'll go home and make some lunch. They've had enough time to play."
Back at their house, Carlos helped Nikki prepare lunch and they sat together with Lucas and Emme while they ate.
Emme took a bite out of her grilled cheese sandwich and dramatically closed her eyes. "Mmm...these are soo good!" Her eyes suddenly flicked back open. "Oh, mum! Can we invite Nadia over tonight to watch the DVD's with us that we hired out?"
"Yea," Lucas piped up. "Dan could come, too, and we could have a sleepover!"
Nikki chuckled and raised her eyebrows at Carlos. He smiled and shrugged, saying, "Why not?"
"Alright, you two. I'll give him a call after lunch but they may already have plans so don't get your hopes up."
Seemingly happy with that response, neither children spoke during the rest of the time they were eating. Devouring their sandwiches, their plates were soon spotless.
After the lunch dishes were cleared, Nikki went up to her and Carlos' bedroom where she could have some peace and quiet. She took out her mobile, dialed Dan's number and waited patiently as it rang once, twice...
"Hello?"
"Dan, it's Nik."
"Oh, Nikki, hey. How are you going?" he replied.
"Not bad, and you?"
He hesitated before he spoke again and Nikki knew instantly that something was off.
"I've had better days..." His voice trailed off and it was a moment before he continued. "Macy passed away last night and I told Nadia today. She's taken it pretty well; I guess she was expecting it but she's very quiet. She needs some space and I suppose I appreciate some time to think and grieve, too."
Nikki closed her eyes, she couldn't even begin to imagine the pain he and Nadia were feeling. Knowing how much Macy had meant to both of them, Nikki knew her passing would be a huge loss in their lives.
"Oh, Dan. I'm so sorry." She didn't know what else to say. Nothing she said would make the situation better.
"It's ok," Dan replied. "We were all expecting it some time and it's for the best. She's not in pain anymore."
"Yes, I guess so," Nikki said. "Well, I won't keep you any longer but if you need anything, please call. We'll all be thinking of you and Nadia and I'll be more than happy to help if you need it."
"Thanks, Nik, that means a lot. I'm sure we'll be fine but I'll give you a tingle if anything comes up. Give my love to the family."
Hanging up, Nikki couldn't help thinking that the world worked in mysterious ways. Macy's life had ended the same night Nikki discovered a new life was growing inside her. A life for a life - it seemed so unfair yet made perfect sense at the same time. While one family was experiencing so much grief, another was experiencing so much joy. It was how the world worked and would always work. Everyone makes a footprint on someone else's life, no matter how big or small. Everyone is special in some way or another to someone, somewhere in the world.
