The next night after work, I called Paige to make the arrangement for our families to meet.

Paige: Hello
Marty: Hey Paige, it’s me.
Paige: I know Marty, I was wondering when you were going to call.
I paused

Marty: Anyway, I was calling to see if we can set up a meeting for me to see my sons.
Paige: Oh… I’m glad you decided to just step up to the plate without any hesitation.
Marty: There is no hesitation when it comes to taking care of my children.
Paige: Good to know (She paused) so when do you want to meet up.
Marty: Tonight we can meet at Justine’s place.
Paige: Justine’s!!!! I don’t want to be over there if I’m not welcome. Marty: Who do you think came up with this meeting? She wants Paul and Justice to meet their brothers. So she knows that you are coming.
Paige: If you say so, what’s the address?

I gave her the address and ended the conversation.
My next call was to Justine to give her a heads up on Paige coming over tonight.

Justine: Why Now?!? Why can’t this wait till tomorrow?
Marty: Because I’m ready to get this over with.
Justine: So do I, but….
Marty: Plus, I am ready to meet my son and have all my kids together so they can know one another.

I guess my statement explained it all because Justine didn’t say anything else but a simple okay and ended the phone call.
I got there before Paige and our sons. I let myself in using the key Justine had given me 2 week ago. I found her cleaning.

Marty: Hey Babe
Justine: Hey (She said still cleaning)
Marty: Where are the kids?
Justine: Paul and Justice are in their rooms bonding.

Justine stopped cleaning and turned to me

Justine: Marty, I know I have no say in this, but from the story you told me about what Paige said, I have my doubts about it.
I looked confused.

Justine: I don’t know how she did it but it does seem so extreme.
Marty: I agree, at first I denied it.
Justine: I would too and is, I think we need to get a DNA test…. (Pause) make sure that these kids are yours.

I didn’t want to have a DNA test; I can tell who are my kids. Plus I didn’t have time or didn’t want to hear Paige’s mouth about it.
Marty: That’s a bit much Justine, don’t you think?
Justine: I think it’s enough; I have my doubts and I don’t know if I can bite my tongue when they arrive.

At that moment the door bell rung.

Marty: Well Justine, this is your house, I am not asking you to hold your tongue on anything. I know we are not married, but your say counts in my book.
Justine just stood there and stared at me and then yelled towards the front door.

Justine: It’s open!

Not taking her eyes off me, and I with her, Paige had entered the house alone.

Paige: Hey you guys, sorry it took so long to get here. It’s kind of hard trying to look for a street name and house numbers in the dark. (She said sarcastically)

Justine and I said nothing… We just stared at each other as if we were having a staring contest.
Paige: Am I interrupting something, because my family and I can leave. (She said walking to a farther spot in the room)

Again Nothing…
Paige: Look, I didn’t come here to watch you guys stare at each other! Marty, if you don’t show me any attention, then I will leave here with our sons!

That broke my stare toward Justine. We weren’t only just staring at one another; we were talking with our eyes. Her eyes were telling me that she was scared and didn’t want her heart to be hurt again. I was telling her to trust me; I’ll never do it again.

Marty: Don’t leave; I want to meet my son. (I said turning my head towards her)
Paige: Good (She said walking towards us.) It kind of feels good to be back around you guys. I miss the tension in the room; you know the elephant in the room. (She said sarcastically and stopping in front of Justine and I)

Paige: Hi Justine, loving the outfit and the hair cut, it fits you, girl.
Justine: Hello Paige.

Paige: What? I can’t get any love. I did live with you guys and everything, so why are you treating me like…..
Marty: Paige, you are not here to be all Chummy with Justine, where are the boys?
Paige: Oh they are in the car. I left them out there with Mario.
Justine: Mario?

Paige: Oh yeah, that’s right; I forgot to tell you guys that I got married! (She said excitedly) Mario is my husband; he helps me raise the boys.

At that moment a man came into the house (I guessing this was Mario)
Paige turned around and introduced Mario to Justine and I. He only smiled and nodded.

Paige: We have been together for almost a year.

Justine: Congrats

Paige: Thanks
I looked Mario up and down. I didn’t care about her marrying this guy; I just wanted to know where my sons were.

Marty: Yeah Congrats, but now that he is in here, where are my boys?
Mario: Oh they are coming. Phillip was scared to come in, so Phil is talking to him. I tried talking to him, but he rejects everything that’s not what his twin brother says. (He chuckled)

Paige began to laugh while Justine and I just stood there as if we were the butt of a joke.
I guess he was nervous as me, I thought to myself.
Justine picking up on my mood, she began to change the subject.

Justine: So how did you guys meet?

Paige: Oh, one day after visiting Phillip in Pleasantville (When he was three) I went to a local bar. Mario was the bartender. He saw that I was upset with something. I ended up telling him about all my struggles about taking care of my sons.
Mario: She was so sad.

Paige: Yes I was. That night I fell in love with him, just because he listened. No one had listened to me in such a long time. (She giggled)

Mario: We ended up talking until it was closing time for the bar, which was like 3am. After I locked up the place, I asked her out for lunch later on that day, but she turned me down. She said she had to go back to Sunset Valley to go to work, but she gave me her number.

Paige: Yeah, when I came back here to you guys, I was texting and calling him on those rare spare moments I had to myself. Then when I came back to Pleasantville the next weekend, we went out on a date. Every weekend I went there to see my son and see my new boyfriend. Eventually when I moved back to Pleasantville, he popped the question on me.

Justine: How sweet… (Sounding as if she really cared.)
Justine: Wait a minute, so are you telling me that, those weekends that I need rest because I was pregnant, but had to babysit Phil and Paul, you were off dating Mario?!?

The room immediately became tense because we all knew what was about to happen.

Paige: Justine, I did not come here to argue with you. Yes, I did spend my weekends with Mario, but

Justine: But nothing!!! I needed my weekends to rest!!! You left me in the house with a three year old that wasn’t mine and a 7 year old!
Mario and I just stood there watching the women go word from word.

Justine: Paige, I’m not going to lie to you. The story you giving doesn’t make since! YOU claim that you were working all week and then on weekends you took a 3 hour drive to Pleasantville to visit your son, your father, and date him?!?! It doesn’t make since; why couldn’t you take Phil with you? Why didn’t you just come clean? WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST MOVE IN WITH YOUR FATHER?!?

Paige: Justine, what does this have to do with you?!?! This is about Marty, Me, and my sons; you’re not married to Marty anymore! YOUR SAY HAS DOES NOT COUNT ANYMORE!!! BESIDES, I WANTED MARTY TO SEE HIS SON!
Justine:YOU LET HIM SEE ONE SON, WHEN HE SO CALLED HAD TWO BY YOU!!(she laughed)

I HAVE EVERY FREAKING RIGHT TO SAY WHATEVER I WANT IN MY HOUSE!!! YES, MARTY AND I ARE NOT MARRIED, BUT WE ARE DATING AGAIN! SO WHATEVER HE IS GOING THROUGH, THEN I’M GOING THROUGH, BECAUSE THAT’S HOW A RELATIONSHIP WORKS!!! YOU AND THESE BAZAAR STORIES ABOUT HAVING TWINS, BUT YOU CAME HOME WITH ONE FREAKING BABY!!!
Paige: BAZAAR?!? WHAT’S SO FREAKING BAZAAR ABOUT HAVING TWINS? PEOPLE HAVE TWINS IN THE WORLD JUSTINE; GOOGLE OR BING IT! I DID WHAT I HAD TO DO WHEN I HAD TO DO IT, SO GET OFF MY BACK!!!

Marty: Ladies, calm down, I did not arrange this for you guys to go at each other. It’s over with Justine, she did what she did; I’m not saying it was right, but we don’t have to worry about it anymore.

At that moment Paul came in with Justice in his arms.
Paul: Mom, Justice needs a bottle, do she has one in the fridge? (He said standing at my side)

Justine: Yes, it’s one in the fridge. (She paused) Don’t be impolite, say hello to our guess, Paige and Mario.

Paul: Hello Ms. Paige and Mr. Mario.

Paige gasps for air.
Paige: OMG, this can’t be the little Paul I know. Oh, you have grown so tall!
Paul just looked at her. He knew Paige because of her living with them a while back. He remembered all the argument she and his mom would have over his brother, Phil. He didn’t like her one bit! He felt as if she broke up their home when she moved in with them. He remembered the days he saw his mom crying because she was so stressed out because she had to take care of him and his brother, while she was pregnant with his sister. He also remember the nights when Justine crash on the couch, when Paige or his dad came home, because she couldn’t take a nap during the day. Paul continued to be silent, instead of saying anything, he just walked off.
Paige smiled at his actions.

Paige: Just like his mother.

Justine: Paige, shut up! My son was doing the right thing, I told him to leave the room when grown folks are talking. You know what, worry about yours before you worry about mine!

With that being said another argument was started.
Mario: Ladies, let’s stop with this nonsense. You guys are making this visit about you guys and it’s all about Marty getting to meet his son and vice versa. Marty: He’s right. You guys won’t have to worry about one another after tomorrow. After both families have this trip to the park, then you ladies won’t have to see each other ever again. I will begin to pick them up from each house and see them that way.

Before they could say anything, the front door opened…
Please come back next week to catch the next chapter of "The Struggles of a wife" Ch. 9
