Chapter 4!! Hope ya like it! (:
The morning air looked clear and chilly. Annabelle felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned and saw her mother. "Hello." Linda, Annabelle's mother, chirped. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yes, very well. I had sweet dreams all through the night." Annabelle smiled revealing her shiny white teeth.
"Well good. So, are you excited about your dinner date with William?" Her mother asked anxiously.
"Sure." She answered blandly. She was not excited for the date at all.
"I'm sure you two will have-" The phone began to ring, so Linda excused herself and walked to go get the phone.
"Does the whole world know about the date?" She muttered under her breath. Annabelle went outside and sat down. She just felt like feeling the grass tickle her toes as she watched the waves lap against the island. It was four days after that wonderful night with Stephen and she had met him at the lake every single night so far. Nothing had stopped her.William had rescheduled the date to tonight because he was really busy with work. Annabelle was more concerned with Stephen though. She wanted to make sure he still wanted to meet her tonight.
She strode into the house.
Annabelle just wanted to make sure he still wanted to go. She was hoping it would lighten her up after a probably horrible date she was going to have with William. Annabelle walked out on to the balcony after getting ready. Luck favored her as Stephen came walking down the balcony towards her. When he looked up and saw her, he gave her a big grin..
Annabelle felt her heart pound in her chest. She made her way towards him and smiled as she went. "Hey!"
"Hi." He moved some hair out of his face.
"So, I was wondering if-"
"IF we are still going tonight?."
"Yeah, do you still want to?" She looked at him hopefully.
Did he wamt to? What a silly question. Of course he did, but he thought it was cute that she was so nervous to ask him.
"Haha, of course." He smiled sweetly and said, "Don't forget."
"About what?" She joked.
"Hey!" Stephen smiled huge.
"Just kidding, see you later." They parted ways, both eager to see one another that night.
She pranced back into the living room with with a happy light heart and sat on the couch to watch TV again. Presently, William came and sat next to her. He still had his PJ's on.
"Hello, my darling Annabelle." He said slimily. "You are looking good today, but what are you wearing to our date tonight?" Obviously, he was trying to make sure she didn't wear anything too casual to the date.
"William, don't worry , I'm not going to wear this." She said with a sigh. He was SO immature.
"Oh yes right, right. So, have you met my butler, Stephen?" William asked. Annabelle nearly choked. She pulled her legs up close to her and stared straight ahead.
'Um, yes. He got me some cereal a while ago. W-why?" She sputtered.
"Oh no reason." He said nonchalantly, "He mentioned that he met you thats all."
A wave of relief swept over Annabelle. So William didn't know about her and Stephen. Good.
They small talked for another fifteen minutes before William claimed to have some errands to run and scuttled off, leaving Annabelle alone in her thoughts. The time passed quickly and Annabelle knew she had to get ready. She didn't like William at all, but she wanted to show him she could dress up nice. When he saw her, his eyes got wide. Maybe he realized that she could look pretty fancy when she wanted to. They strode to his limo and whisked away to the restaurant that we wanted to go to.
They ended up going to Annabelle's favorite breakfast place; not very fancy at all. And there was no one there. Why did he want her dressed up?
"i know you are probably wondering why I bugged you about wearing fancy clothes." He said as if reading her thoughts. "The truth is I thought we could see a play after dinner. You know at the theater." For a moment he looked...breakable and soft. But his face hardened and he added, "Unless you can't appreciate fine acting when you see it."
Annabelle paused, surprised by his strange manner, but then replied, "Yes, that would be nice to see a play. I have not seen one in a while."
"Then its settled." They finished their meals and rode in the limo to the theater. At around 9:15 Stephen crept into his truck and started his trek to the lake. The whole time he thought about how beautiful Annabelle was. How sweet and gentle and funny. And how William didn't deserve her. But neither did he. She deserved a guy who could buy a house for her and buy her gifts and support her. He didn't have much money. But he loved her so much. He arrived at the lake and sat on the grass .
He waited and waited and waited. Surely she had come back from her date with William, hadn't she? I will wait a little longer, he told himself. He looked up at the stars. They were sprinkled across the black sky like little diamonds in a mine. The stars twinkled like Annabelle's eyes did. He checked the clock again. 10:36. There was no way she stood him up. She was the one who had asked him. He waited. 10:45...11:00...11:15.................... Annabellestormed home. She couldn't stand another minute with William. He only talked about himself. Everything was about him. Whenever Annabelle tried to say something, he would brush it off; like it was bad news. But it didn't bother as much because he always did that; even as a kid. But then he grabbed her and kissed her. He kissed her hard. William's mouth was slimy and not welcoming. Annabelle pushed him off and ran out the theater.
A wind blew the trees, creating an ominous sound. Annabelle was scared. She was angry and she wanted to get away from William, but she was not too excited about walking home alone. Luckily, she saw her house in the distance. Tears ran down her cheeks. She ran as fast as she could in her pumps and clambered up the steps to her room. "Did she really not come?" Stephen asked himself. "I'm so stupid!" He yelled angrily. He thought she just used him. He looked to the stars and thought about Annabelle. All the things she said to him. Her sparkling eyes, her bubbly personality, the way her smile made birds sing and her voice made flowers bloom. How her chocolate brown hair cascaded down her shoulders and back. He thought about her shiny, soft lips. He remembered the way he kissed her. And she kissed back.
She kissed back.
Maybe he was jumping to conclusions. "She really did act like she liked me. She probably just forgot. It's not like she purposely skipped out on our date." He gulped nervously as he walked to his car. "I hope." He drove home, hoping. Annabelle layed in her bed and thought about what happened with William. Ugh, she thought to herself, the nerve of that jerk, I can't believe he did that. She wanted to scream. It's like she was this doll and he could do whatever he wanted to her. She couldn't tell her mom or her dad. The only person she could tell was Stephen.
Stephen. She opened her eyes and stared straight up. "OH MY GOSH! I TOTALLY FORGOT!" She wanted to slap herself. Here she was, in love with this guy, and she totally forgot about their date. She looked at the clock. 12:46. They always meet around 9:00. Stephen probably already left. She cursed and looked out the window. Sure enough, there was his beat up truck pulling into the driveway. "I have to tell him tomorrow. I don't want him to be mad." She reluctantly laid in bed and fell into a silent sleep. Stephen went to his room and hopped into his bed. Annabelle did love him, he was sure of that. And he loved her. "I really need to stop acting like a baby." He turned off the light and fell asleep. Annabelle smelled coffee and slid downstairs to get some. MAinly because she knew Stephen was probably making it and she needed to talk to him.
She stepped into the kitchen to see her mother and father talking and drinking coffee. "Want a cup, Annabelle?" Her father asked. She hadn't spoken very much with her father since the whole William thing.
"Um, yes please." She smiled as her father gave her a warm cup of coffee. She said thanks and walked over to look out of the window. There she saw Stephen picking up the newspaper. BUt something looked wrong. HE looked angry. "Oh no." Annabelle said to herself. "He is probably mad about last night." Stephen stared at the cover on the newspaper. HE couldn't move. His heart hurt. HIs head ached. He was confused. His body felt numb. He stared, tryng to make reason with the cover of the newspaper. He grabbed the newpaper. So this is what she was doing? She lied? He turned towards the street. "I thought she loved me. She told me she didn't like him. I can't believe this. She used me." He got angrier and angrier. HE stormed into the house. "Here is your newspaper." He said quickly to Linda. He turned around and saw Annabelle staring at him with her big blue eyes.
HIs heart started to melt, but then he remembered what she did to him. He walked hastily upstairs. Looking at her with an angry and disappointed face. Annabelle didn't understand. It wasn't that bad that she missed the date. She followed him upstairs.
"Stephen?" She asked quietly.
"Yes?" He said blandly.
"I just wanted to apologize. I didn't mean to-"
"YOu didn't mean to break my heart?" He looked straight into her eyes. Annabelle saw pain and sorrow. What had happened? THis could not be about missing the date. Could it? HE spoke again,"No, I'm sorry that I even was aprt of this little game of yours. Do you do that to all your butlers?"
He was being so harsh. Annabelle wasn't used to this side of him. "I didn't know it was such a big deal. I just forgot about our date. We can have one tonight, I promise."
He looked at her surprised. THen his mouth formed a straight line and he said, "Well, I"m sure you had a lot of fun with William. Go look at the newspaper." He walked away and left her alone. "The newspaper? Why the newspaper?" She saw that her mother and father had left the kitchen vacant and the newspaper was convienently sitting on the counter. She picked it up and flipped to the front cover.
"Oh my gosh." Annabelle's heart started pounding. She started sweating and shaking. The front cover said "BEAUTIFUL ANNABELLE IN LOVE?" IT had a picture of her kissing William. Someone had gotten a lucky shot. But the thing was, it looked like she wanted it. Her hand was pressed against his chest. At the time, she was trying to push him off but in the picture it looked like she was just resting her hand there. That's why Stephen was mad. Could she fix this? "What am i going to do? I love Stephen and he thinks i was just-"
Hot tears sprang up in her eyes. She then realized something. There was no one to help her feel better. No real friends. Her parents would be mad. Stephen already was mad at her, and William would not care and he would be angry. Everyone seemed to be irritated at her.
She was completely alone. Aw, sad. ): Chapter five is coming soon! Thanks for reading! (:
