Meet Basil.
In case you hadn't noticed, Basil is a gnome.
In case you hadn't noticed, Basil is a gnome. Basil lived in the garden, like any normal gnome. Andy was Basil's friend. The two had met at a garden center, of all places! Rain or shine, Basil stood guard over Andy's garden. He was a loyal friend and servant. Most people ignored him. But Andy occasionally stopped by to talk. The poor git had no real friends. And it was no wonder! Although he was normally quite friendly, Andy had a very bad temper. Unfortunately, Andy was a habitual gnome kicker. It made Basil furious. But Basil couldn't defend himself, because he was just a pitiful wooden gnome.
Still, he was fed up with being mistreated. One morning, Andy drove off to work as usual. Basil grinned and waved good-bye.
"Today will be a good day," he told himself. "The garden is for the birds!" Basil adventured into the house, whistling a happy tune. He found a lovely creature in the living room.
"Mmmmm... meow, meow!" Basil said, licking his wooden lips. "Hello, Kitty!"
Her only response was to purr softly and preen her painted pinewood fur. Then Basil met an ugly green frog.
"Ribbit!" said the frog when he saw Basil.
"I don't like your attitude or your language," Basil told him. Next, Basil stopped by the kitchen for beer and food. After lunch, he decided to call some friends. But the phone was out of reach. "No worries! I'm a clever gnome," Basil said to himself as he pushed a chair into place. After calling his friends, he had a bath to wash off the caked-on garden grub.
"Ahhh.... that's much better!" Basil's friends started arriving all at once. "Greetings!" Basil called out to his pals. "Parsley, Coriander, Cumin, Thyme, Rosemary, and Nutmeg. The gang's all here!" First they watched a movie. Then the boys played a game of darts.
Marjoram and Nutmeg cheered them on. In the heat of the afternoon, Basil and his friends went for a swim. Then Andy came home. The door was locked. "Hehehehe!"
"Frewfrack! What the diggle is going on here?" Andy shouted. The garage door was locked, too.
"Gartoyle!" Andy swore. "Basil, open the door!" While Andy was outside sulking, Basil enjoyed a lovely dinner with Nutmeg.
"Such lovely, long legs," Basil thought to himself, "And a sharp beak, too!" Basil and Nutmeg talked for hours. After his friends had gone, Basil found Andy asleep in the garden. Basil felt a little sorry for him, but still enjoyed the comfort of Andy's bed that night. The next morning, all was back to normal ... ... except that Basil found a big gift with a card signed:
"I'm sorry. Please forgive me.
Your wooden-headed friend,
Andy" From that day forward, Andy treated Basil with care and respect and they remained lifelong friends.
The End.
