School is the reason but i'll really try my best not to make it that loooooong (srsly! 2 weeks?) ... that's all! hope you understand. ^__^ It was a silent morning in Bridgeport and also in the Martins’ residence. “Good morning, Lora. You’re up early.”
“Good morning, Mr. Adams.” Lora replied with a sigh.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing… It’s just I miss Annie already.”
“But they just left last night! And besides, it will be only for five days.” Mr. Adams replied with a smile.
“Yes, only for five days.” Lora was still gloomy. “I’m so selfish Mr. Adams… sorry ‘bout that!”
“The master needs her assistance. Just like what I told you, she really helped him in his presentations before.”
“I still wonder how Annie learned such stuff.”
“It’s a mystery. Just let it be.”
“But I’m quite worried Mr. Adams. Annie was quite feverish when they left for Twinbrook.”
“Annie is a strong girl.” Mr. Adams confidently answered. “And besides, the master can take care of her when things turn down. Don’t you worry about that.”
It was already afternoon in Twinbrook. Aerith and Alexander just arrived. Aerith was still sort of jet lagged.
For five days, they’ll be staying in Twinbrook for an important company business. Alexander asked Aerith to assist him since she’s quite good with it. Aerith, on the other hand, was very willing to help her master as much as she can.
“Mr. Alexander Martins? Yes sir. Mr. Vann did book a reservation for you.”
“Can you please lead us to our rooms now?” Alexander was quite grumpy for he was tired.
“Rooms?” the receptionist was perplexed.
“Sir, Mr. Vann only booked a single room.” The receptionist added.
Aerith stood there, blank.
“If that’s the case, then I’d like to have another room.”
“Sorry sir. But all the rooms are occupied.”
“What?”
“It’s just because the Twinbrook festival is nearby and many tourists just arrived. Also, there are many businessmen like you. The central business district will surely be very busy during the festival. Even other hotels are fully booked.” The receptionist added.
Alexander sighed. Aerith, in a corner, was quite embarrassed to think that she’ll be sharing the same room with the master.
They entered the presidential suite. It was a big and beautiful room. It was fine at first but there’s a teensy weensy problem: to their surprise, they found only one bed. Alexander, with a sigh, sat down. He was really tired. “I guess this case can’t be helped.”
“If the bed’s the case, then I’ll be sleeping on the couch in the living room area tonight.” Aerith said.
“The couch?” Alexander asked, “You CAN sleep there?”
“Yeah I can.”
“No. You sleep on the bed. I’ll just buy a sleeping bag in a shop nearby. I’ll sleep in the living room area.”
Aerith was surprised, “But master, you’re my master and I’m your maid. You should be the one who’s in…”
Before she could finish, he said, “You’re a lady and ladies don’t just sleep on the couch. And besides, you’re not my maid for this week. You’re my…”
“You’re what?”
“My coach.”
“Okaaaaaaay… but I don’t need a bed sir, really!”
“I won’t let you sleep on the couch. Am I clear?” he looked serious.
Aerith gulped, “crystal, sir.”
“I’ll go out to buy the bed.” He went away.
"Seriously, what's up with him?" Aerith turned on the laptop and started working on the presentation even though she’s still tired, and somehow quite unwell. After an hour, Alexander returned with the sleeping bag he needed.
“Welcome back, sir.” Aerith greeted.
“Let’s eat dinner downstairs.” He commanded.
"The food is awful.” He frankly grunted.
Aerith chuckled, “You really prefer my cooking, don’t you?”
“No, I don’t.” he answered, quite defensive.
“You do!” she teased, “You know, sir, we have a mini kitchen upstairs. I could have prepared something…”
“I said I don’t need your cooking.”
“Stop being so proud or I won’t help you with your presentation.”
He went silent.
“Let’s go upstairs, shall we?” Aerith invited.
“Here… See? I can cook fast.” Aerith said as she placed the food on the table.
“Stop bragging!” Alexander ate his food.
“Is it good?”
“Just a little bit better than what they served downstairs.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.” She giggled.
“Did you edit it already?” he asked.
“Yeah… Can I see the other file? I’d like to check on it.”
“Okay, but can I see the edited one?”
“Sure…”
He looked on the presentation. “I get your point. I guess this will do.” He said.
“That was mean, sir.” She pouted.
“I was complimenting you.”
“Uhuh… complimenting.” Her tone was sarcastic.
“It’s getting kind of late. I think you should sleep now.”
“I’m not sleeping. Not before you.”
“I command you to sleep now. I’ll just finish the little details so that you can check on it early tomorrow. That’s why I’m asking you to sleep early.”
“What time will you present this?”
“The presentation shall start at noon.”
“I see… I’ll be up early then. But are you sure you don’t want the bed?”
“No, I don’t.” He stood up and started walking his way out of the room, carrying the laptop.
“okay… but I will feel really guilty about this. Good night sir.” She yawned.
He didn’t answer.
Aerith pouted and shouted, “And don’t you dare go to my area when I’m out cold!”
“LIKE HELL I WILL!” he shouted back.
“Good night!” She shouted.
He murmured, “Good night.” She woke up early even though her body doesn’t seem to like it. She still feels unwell. She brushed her teeth, took a bath and checked her master’s presentation.
“This is effective already. And… mmm… mmm… yes, this will work.”
After that, she cooked breakfast.
Alexander woke up. It was already 10 in the morning. He immediately took a bath and got dressed. “Why didn’t you wake me up?” he asked with his voice raised.
“You didn’t ask me to.”
“I’ll be off now. The presentation starts in an hour. I’ll check on what you edited in the office. I’ll be off now. Don’t you dare go out. You might get lost and if ever that happens, I will definitely not look for you, understand?”
“Yes sir but what about breakfast?”
He left without an answer. Aerith was pissed off.
She cleaned the entire room even though she need not to. She was bored after all. After that, she watched television just to kill the boredom.
“Cooking like a pro! Good day to all our Twinbrook viewers out there. This is Shania Sim, your host and …………….”
Aerith likes cooking shows as much as she loves cooking and she was quite amused with the show.
“My! That’s a pretty nice recipe.” She praised, “I guess it’s worth the try for tonight’s dinner.”
“This is the perfect recipe for wives learning to cook for their husbands. Imagine your hubby fresh from the office and excessively tired. Cook this for him and he will definitely appreciate it. The taste is so refreshing and invigorating. It’s really good. Your hubbies will love this and your love might even strengthen with this simple recipe!” the host gladly said.
Aerith’s eyes widened, “Husband and WIFE?” she flushed. “Don’t tell me I’m already getting wifey-material to…." she flushed, "NAH! I’m not cooking it then!”she turned the television off.
She stood up. She suddenly became dizzy and felt really hot. She was perspiring. “What’s wrong with me?” She kneeled, staring at her hands becoming four in her sight. She, then, collapsed. Alexander arrived. He was surprised to see Aerith out cold on the floor.
“Annie!” he held her. She was very hot and she was perspiring a lot. She was catching her breath. He carried her and brought her to the room. He placed her on the bed. “What should I do?” He picked up the phone and contacted medical assistance. “I already gave her the medicine she needed. She just needs rest and care and she’ll be alright.” The doctor told Alexander. “I’ll be off now.”
“Thank you.” Alexander said.
The doctor went away. Alexander checked on Aerith. “Why now?” he thought.
Aerith woke up. She stood up, still feeling dizzy. She walked out the bedroom and found no one. She sat down. After a while, Alexander arrived.
He scolded her, “What are you doing?” “I’m just…”
“You should rest. You’re sick.”
“Sick? I’m not sick.”
“You collapsed and had high temperature. Now, tell me you’re not sick.”
“I’m not sick.” She told him.
“Stop being so stupid!” he shouted, “Go back to your bed.”
“I’m…” her tummy loudly rumbled.
Alexander sighed, “I bought food.”
“I’m sorry sir… now I’m a burden.”
“It’s good that you noticed.” He frankly answered.
Aerith pouted, “that was mean!”
“What do you expect me to say? Thanks for being sick?”
“No.”
Alexander sighed, “How are you feeling?”
“Are you asking me?”
“Who else would I ask?”
“I’m fine… i’m still quite dizzy but I guess I just need rest.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“Thanks.”
“For what?”
“For taking care of me. Isn’t it ironic? The master is taking care of his subordinate.” she smiled.
“You really are stupid for not telling me that you’re not feeling well.” He looked away.
“I don’t even know that my body’s too ill!” she reasoned out, “I don’t want to feel more useless. I can still help you.”
“I’ll only attend meetings for the next days to come so it won’t be too much work. You can rest.”
“In what way can I help?”
“Why do you keep on insisting? You think I can't be good with my work without you?”
“No! It’s my duty. And I’m here for work and not for mere vacation, right?”
“whatever…” he looked away.
“You can ask for opinions regarding what you talked about.”
“Like hell I will.” He walked away.
“THEN WHAT AM I HERE FOR? YOU MEAN MONSTER!” she shouted. For some odd reasons, Aerith felt quite well already but she’s still a little bit sleepy.
Another day came; Two days more before they go back to Bridgeport. The conference ended early. It seems like Alexander and Aerith will go home earlier than expected.
“Mr. Martins, the conference is indeed a huge success. I’ll be looking forward for our partnership in the future.” Mr. Cobalt said.
“The project is indeed promising. Your presentations were marvelous.” Mr. Vann added.
“Thank you sir.” Alexander said.
“Say, we’re hosting a party tomorrow evening, I like to invite you, Mr. Martins. Many businessmen will attend and it will be an honor for us and for the entire Twinbrook businessmen community if you come.” Mr. Cobalt said.
“I also invited our business partners from Sunset Valley and Barnacle Bay. This will be a huge night of business.” Mr. Vann laughed.
Alexander saw this party as an opportunity, “I’ll come.”
“7 in the evening in Victoria Hotel. See you there.”
“Good evening, sir.” Aerith greeted.
“So, you’re feeling good already?”
“Never better.” She answered with a smile. “I prepared your food for you.”
“Thank you. Have you eaten yet?”
“Not yet. I’ll eat after you.”
“No. You eat with me.” He ordered.
Aerith’s eyes widened, “But…”
“No buts… I don’t want you to get sick again.” he walked towards the dining area.
Aerith flushed.
“Is it good?” she asked.
“It’s edible.”
Aerith pouted, “Just praise it even for once.” she ate her salad.
“Why would I even do that?”
“Why do you have to be so stingy all the time? You’ll grow old faster if you keep that up.”
“If it’s from you, I won’t believe such statement.” He ate.
“Speaking of which, how old are you, sir?”
“Why ask?”
“Nothing… I’d like to know. I’m your servant and I want to know all about my master.”
“And you expect me to answer you?”
“Yes… please…” she pleaded.
“No. ” He stood up.
“Master!” she pulled his arm. Alexander was surprised. Aerith, after realizing what she’s doing, released her master. She was so embarrassed. “I’m 22.” He, looking away, timidly answered. He then walked away.
“I’m 21!” Aerith shouted. He stopped and looked at her.
“Midget.” He snobbishly said. He went out of the room.
“WHAT?” Aerith pouted. “Seriously, master, if you’re trying to mock me again, try to make it effective! THAT DOESN’T EVEN MAKE ANY SENSE!” she shrieked. Then, she giggled, “that mean man!”
Another morning came. Aerith was busy making breakfast. Alexander just woke up. “Here’s your food.” Aerith placed the meal on the table.
“Annie, I’ll be attending a party tonight.”
“That’s good.”
“Would you like… to come with me?” he nervously asked.
“That’s rare for you to ask. You usually command me but now you’re requesting.”
“Are you taunting me again?”
“No…” she smiled, “I’ll come alright. It’s my master’s request and I’ll definitely grant that. But not as my master’s date… just as a friend escort, is that clear?”
“Fine.”
“One problem… I have no dress.”
“You’re asking me to buy you one?” his tone was sarcastic.
Aerith pouted, “Fine! I won’t go!”
He dragged her out.
“I’m not fond of gowns but this is really nice, don’t you think?”
“Just hurry!” he was uninterested.
“I want to look good too.”
“I don’t care.”
Aerith was pissed. She randomly grabbed a dress and gave it rudely to Alexander. “I’ll take that then!”
"Darn..." Alexander murmured.
“What would you like to eat?”
“This one…” she pointed at the menu.
“Do you really want that?” he disapprovingly asked.
“Then, what’s the point of asking my opinion?” she answered back.
Alexander wasn’t able to talk back. “Let’s eat inside…”
It was already 3 in the afternoon. They stopped by a beauty salon. “I’ll leave you here so that you can be styled. You said you want to look good, am I right? Here it is. You have your phone with you right? I’ll call you later and pick you up by 5.” He left her.
“What’s the big idea of leaving me here all alone?” she shrieked, “HEY! WHAT WILL I USE TO PAY FOR THE SERVICES! COME BACK HERE!!!”
It was already 30 minutes pass 5 and Aerith was already ready. She sat on the stairs. Alexander was still not there. Aerith was getting tired of waiting.
Finally, he arrived. He was dazed upon seeing Aerith looking so beautiful. “You didn’t even call!” she pouted.
He just stared at her, speechless.
“And I used my phone as payment… seriously, what’s up with you, sir?”
“nothing… let’s go.” He said.
“It’s indeed an honor that you came!” Mr. Cobalt said, “This is my wife, Joanne.”
“It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. Martins. And oh! Such a lovely lady. You must be Mr. Martins’…”
“She’s my assistant, Ms. Annie Laurie.”
“Assistant?” Mrs. Cobalt disapprovingly asked, “But you two look good together. I even thought you were a couple.”
The two flushed.
“Mr. Martins, I’d like to introduce you to Mr. Coleman, another bigtime businessman. He's over there.”
“Coleman?” Aerith thought. “I’ll stay here sir.” She told Alexander.
“Okay…” Alexander nodded and walked away with Mr. Cobalt. Mrs. Cobalt stayed with Aerith.
“I’ll go to meet my friends over there. Would you like to come with me? They’ll be glad to meet such an intelligent, lovely, young lady.”
“I’m glad to hear that and I’d love to but I would like to get some fresh air at the balcony.”
“Okay then. I’ll see you later.” Mrs. Cobalt left.
When she went out, she found a little boy, perhaps 7 years old, roaming around the balcony.
“Hello young man. What are you doing here all alone?”
“It’s boring inside.” He said.
“We feel the same way.” She smiled.
“Are you also a daughter of a businessman here?”
“No. By the way, I’m Annie Laurie”
“It’s nice to meet you. I’m Granth Coleman.”
“Coleman?” Aerith asked, “How are you related to Mr. Devon Coleman?”
“He’s my uncle. He’s my daddy’s little brother.”
“I see.” Aerith said.
“Do you know uncle Devon?”
“Not really… I just heard of his name.”
“Oh… he’s really famous because uncle Devon looks like a movie star. I want to be like him someday.”
Aerith chuckled.
“I’ll be going inside now. My daddy must be looking for me. Bye!” he went away.
She smiled at him.
“Ma’am champagne?” the waiter asked. Aerith took one goblet and drank the drink.
Alexander looked for Aerith. Finally, he found her outside, sitting.
“What are you doing here all alone?” he asked.
“I thought it’s going to be a lively party. I don’t like a party like this. It makes me bored. People always talk about money, money and more money.” She yawned.
“This is a business party. What do you expect?” he said, “Well then, would you like to dance?” he swallowed all the courage he needed.
“With you?” She smiled, “I’ll be honored. But let’s just stay here.”
They danced in the balcony, where the music can still be heard but not as loud as inside the hall. They stared at each others’ eyes. It was his first time to look into her eyes that long. She looked even more beautiful. She, on the other hand, felt awkward but somehow, for some odd reasons, felt glad. She’s slowly noticing that she’s already experiencing another different side of her master. “I forgot to tell you… uhmmm… you look beautiful tonight.” He gulped.
“Thank you.” She flushed. She felt awkward. She can’t look at him.
For a moment, the two became silent.
"Only tonight." Alexander blurted out.
Aerith pouted, "That was mean!" she lightly punched his shoulder.
“Uhmmm… By the way, thanks for being here.”
“It’s my duty to fulfill my master’s request, isn’t it?” she was feeling quite dozy.
“So you’ll fulfill everything that your master will request?” he looked away.
“uhuh”
“Then… what if I ask you… to… fall in love with me? Will… you grant my request?” he was stuttering and excessively nervous. The words suddenly came out. He was honestly serious.
There was no reply. To his surprise, when he looked at Aerith, she’s already sleeping.
He flushed in extreme embarrassment and later on, chuckled.
“Let’s go home.” He carried her.
They arrived at the hotel room. He placed her on her bed.
He sat down and thought, “tell me, am I really in love with you, Annie?” It was early morning in Bridgeport when the doorbell rang. Mr. Adams opened the door.
“Hello, Greece. It’s been a while, old man. How are you?”
Mr. Adam’s eyes widened, “sir…”
“Is Alexander home?”
