Introduction: Everyone has a story.

As the sun sets on Central Park, the heart of New York City, another day is gone forever. The trees branches are bare now, the leaves have fallen, Autumn has passed and Winter is impending swiftly.

Every day holds a new tale. If Central Park could talk it would tell an incalcuable array of stories. From the days of its creation by Irish immigrants, to all those who had passed throught it, decade after decade, from every corner of the globe, it would tell us the life stories of millions.

Some of the tales would be heartbreaking, some would be uplifting, some perhaps humorous. Every day, a different story:

We'd hear of the young chemistry student who walks other peoples dogs at the weekends and in her free time in order to afford herself new books and transport to college. While walking she recites the periodic table of the elements, she knows each off by heart now.

She wants to make something of her life, she doesn't want to end up like her parents who have no drive, no ambition, no desire to better themselves.
We'd also hear of the two old friends who play chess together each Saturday morning. One whose ancestors arrived in New York from Ethopia in the 1930's, and the other who traces his lineage back to Scandanavia.

Both families arrived in Ellis Island with nothing but the shirts on their backs. But that wasn't how their story ended. They worked and they worked and they worked. These weren't just two old men playing chess in the park, they were proof of the American dream, a classic rags to riches tale.

Now in their retirement, this is how they loved to spend their days; relaxing, reminiscing, content in the city that had given they and their ancestors before them so much opportunity.
Then there's another old man, this one not so fortunate, sadly. He can be found in cities everywhere, he is homeless. He won't reside on this park bench for long for soon the snow will come and he will have to move on, but for now, this is home.

There's the single Father playing baseball with his daughter. All the while he prays he won't get struck in the face with the ball, her throw isn't very good to say the least. He knows it, she knows it, but it doesn't matter, he's just happy to spend time with his child and she him.

Their laughter and cheer can be heard echoing through the trees. They are a happy family, just the two of them.
Loves young dream can also be found in Central Park. Besotted with eachother, this pair only have eyes for eachother. They want to spend the rest of their lives together, their families say it won't last, they call it puppy love. But only time will truly tell. And then there's the Delaney family.

Rachel Delaney, a young widow, watches on as her two sons play, all the while holding her only daughter close. Her heart aches for the man she has lost. He was the love of her life. It's been almost three years, her pain has eased but it has never gone away, she now accepts that it never will.
She looks at her little girl and regrets deeply that she never got to meet her Father. He would have adored her.

Rachel worries. Christmas is coming, two weeks ago she lost her job, she is at rock bottom now.

They are just one family out of many hundreds in the big city of bright lights and yellow taxis. But everyone has a story, and this is hers.
''What am I going to do?'' she asks herself relentlessly, she fears she will have to cancel Christmas this year.

Unless she has a miracle, she tells herself, things are going to be grim.

Yes, she needs a miracle. But will she get it in time for Christmas? She can only hope and pray so.

So beautifully written, you are very talented. I loved the part with the Ethopian and the Scandinavian and the imagery you conjured of Ellis island, the coming together of cultures, just beautiful... You captured the spirit of winter in NYC quite well and the themes of love/ loneliness fits in perfectly. Really enjoyed this and can't wait to read chapter 1 and find out what happens to Rachel and her kids.

Cool story, the way you blend in "snapshots" of other lives with the main character was like in a movie opening, where there are many clips of different settings and then it pans around to the main story line and character. Really good stuff, thank you for sharing it. Ok, on to read more~!
