“THIS PLACE IS SO DEPRESSING.” Nikki said bored out of her mind.

Driving through the mountains to reach the town of Twinbrook, they had been driving for hours. No matter where Nikki looked all she saw were trees and a long road that seemed to go on forever, and a cloudy sky that threatened rain any minute. The sun was out, but it seemed that the clouds didn’t let it break through. Almost like the gods didn’t favor the place. “So, remind me again why we are here?” she asked to no one in particular.

“For the past two months, the town of Twinbrook has been terrorized by an unknown force,” Harrison explained from the passenger seat.
“What kind of force?” Eric asked, looking out at the road wondering what they were dealing with.

“Ummm…not really certain. There aren’t many details. Apparently from what I was told there have been strange things going on for a while around the country. This town seems to be the focus of it at the moment.” Harrison said in deep thought.

“That do you mean?” Nikki asked, intrigued.

“It keeps switching from state to state. Jared seems to think that whatever it is, it’s searching for something.” Harrison said.

“It keeps switching from state to state. Jared seems to think that whatever it is, it’s searching for something.” Harrison said.

“Does Jared have any clues what that something is?” Nikki asked. Jared was their go to guy at headquarters and the one who assigned them their cases. He had been with Orion’s Coalition for a long time. She wasn’t sure how long; he never mentioned it and nobody seemed to be sure.

“No,” Harrison responded.

“So why are we here exactly?” Eric asked.

“Jared wants us to investigate. He wants to know who and what they are looking for. It’s as simple as that.” Harrison said.

*It was never as simple as that*, Nikki thought. It usually took more then what it seemed.
After living this life for the past six years, she was getting tired of it. After six years, Eric and Nikki were stronger both physically and mentally. Not only were they trained for combat, but they also developed their gifts to the max. Not only could they talk freely telepathically with each other now, but they could also sense emotions from one another and from people close to them.

But for the last few months, she had grown tired of this life. Yeah traveling to different places was exciting, but she wanted more. She wanted to stay in those places and go sight seeing without having to do research and investigate all the time. She wanted to settle down, put some roots somewhere. She wanted to go back to her old life, whatever that was. She didn’t even remember anymore.
“So why are we getting the mission now?” She asked looking out the window, not really caring either way.

Taking out a file from his brief case, Harrison passed it back to Nikki. Nikki took it from him but didn’t open it. At the moment she didn’t really care about the case.

“Two weeks ago, the team that had been assigned to this case disappeared. They sent investigators to look for them, but they didn’t find anything, not even a trace of them. No one knows anything, and if they do, they aren’t talking. Most of the people are scared of whatever is in this town.” Harrison said, not realizing that Nikki wasn’t really paying attention.

“Ooookay. So a couple of guys go missing, no one is talking and they send us? Why not some other team? What aren’t you telling us Harrison?” Eric asked taking his eyes off the road for a few seconds to look at him. He could sense that Harrison was uneasy. He was hiding something, and from his vibes he knew he wasn’t going to like it.
Looking at Eric, Harrison sighed uncomfortably. He looked back at Nikki with a worried glace. Since she was looking out the window again, she missed it. Letting out a long breath, he ran a hand through his hair. “The team that went missing included Eli.”

“What?!!” It had taken Nikki several seconds for that to register, but when it did, she gripped the two seats and pulled herself towards the middle of the back seat. Dumbfounded, she looked at Harrison. She must of heard wrong.

*Calm down sis,* Eric said telepathically.

“He went missing not to long ago. Eli was here with a team. No one has heard from them in a couple of weeks.” He said not meeting her eyes.

“Why didn’t you tell us this before?” She was mad now, mad enough to want to punch something. Grabbing the discarded file that she hadn’t looked through before, she hoped to find something that told her she had definitely heard wrong. Instead she found documents that confirmed what Harrison just told them. Two weeks Eli’s been missing and no one bothered to tell her. “Don’t you think this was important information!?!”
Eric swore. He could hear every phrase that Nikki read in his mind.

“I didn’t want you to worry. Jared didn’t want to tell you. I was simply following orders.” Harrison explained.

“Screw the orders. Screw Jared! This is Eli we’re talking about. Aren’t you suppose to be on our side?” They were a team; they weren’t suppose to keep secrets from each other.

Turning in his seat to look her in the eye, Harrison said, “Look we’re headed to where they were staying. There might be clues that they left behind that the other team didn’t find. Don’t worry, we’ll find him and the rest of his team.”
Nikki studied him with intent eyes. She could sense he was still hiding something. “What else aren’t you telling us, Harrison.” she said looking at him in the eye.

Letting a loud sigh, Harrison turned back around to face the road. “About a week ago we received some information. Jared told me not to tell you—”

“Great more secrets.” She mumbled under her breath, but she figured it was loud enough because Harrison stopped talking.

“What?” Eric directed the question at Harrison but looked at Nikki through the rear view mirror, with a disapproving look in his eyes. She in turn just rolled her eyes and looked out the window again.
“Jared told me not to say anything,” he repeated, “but you need to know.”

“What?” she asked turning towards him.

“The team that came back from investigating thinks that the pharaoh is here.”

Nikki gasped. At the same time she did, the car came to a screeching halt knocking her forward, causing her head to hit the back of the drivers’ seat, but she didn’t feel a thing. At that moment, all eyes where on Harrison, looking at him with total shock.
Since joining Orion, Nikki and Eric along with others members have been searching for King Thutmose. He was an evil mummy who had tried to reek havoc on a small town in Egypt. It had been their first case, and they were confident that it was going to be an easy one. But it hadn’t. Eric had come back home with a broken arm and leg and Nikki had a concussion and a broken wrist. The mummy on the other hand had not one scratch and had disappeared.

After returning home with their sprits down and burses and broken bones, Nikki had researched all about him and his life. She learned that he had been a powerful, wealthy, Egyptian pharaoh from the 18th dynasty. He had ruled with malicious intent with his wife, Queen Kepi, at his side. When he died in battle, he was laid to rest in the three pyramids along with valuable treasures. Because of the cruelty he inflicted on his people his wife, without the protection of her king, disappeared and was never seen again. Rumors were that she was buried in an unmarked tomb. To this day that tomb hasn’t been found, although many people have looked.

Since that day, Nikki hadn’t been sleeping well. She dreamed about not only the incident but also of him. Dreams that usually turned into nightmares. Many nights she would wake up in a panic, with sweat tripping down her back. Thinking about it now still made her shiver.
Closing her eyes, she sat slouched against the back seat. Four years and they haven’t been able to locate him. Now, he was here and she didn’t know if she still wanted to get go after him. Sensing Eric’s thoughts she knew that he was ready for a second battle with Thutmose. He had been since he had come home embarrassed that he couldn’t defeat a mummy. She wasn’t happy about it because even though she was getting tired of this life, he was very much excited to be in it.

“We don’t know if he’s here, if it even is him. There’s a possibility that he’s the one behind all this. It’s why Jared sent us.” Harrison explained breaking into her thoughts.
Putting a hand to where her head hit the seat, she waited for him to provide more information.

When he didn’t Eric put the car in drive and stared at the road. “Ok,” he said, “Then lets get this guy once and for all.”

He looked back toward his sister. She was rubbing her head in deep thought, but she was keeping them safely to herself. Pushing past the barrier he asked telepathically, “You ok?”

She nodded her response, but to be honest she wasn’t. Looking at Erics’ eyes in the rear view mirror, she told him to stop the car telepathically. Shaking his head lightly so Harrison wouldn’t see that they were having a conversation, he refused. *Eric, stop the car!* She demanded louder this time.
Where are you going? You can’t go looking for him by yourself. It’s my fight too!* he responded.

*I’m not. Don’t worry. I just need some fresh air and I need to be alone without you in my head.* She saw the negative response before he thought it, so before he said it, she pleaded with him, *Please Eric, let me out.*

He swore under his breath. “Fine” he said out loud, breaking the connection. Stopping the car, Nikki was able to get out before Harrison realized what was going on. He never liked it when Nikki would go on her own and she was sure he wouldn’t like it now.

“Hey, were you going?” He asked turning around in his seat just as her door slammed shut.
“She’s going for a walk,” Eric replied and drove away before Harrison could get out of the car.

*You owe me.* Came Eric’s thought, but it was with a smile.

*Thanks bro, and stay out of my head,* She sent back sweetly.

She stood there watching the car drive off. After a few seconds the car disappeared around a curve. Looking around, she was finally alone. She was in the middle of nowhere with tall trees surrounding her and the only street was down the middle.

She stood there watching the car drive off. After a few seconds the car disappeared around a curve. Looking around, she was finally alone. She was in the middle of nowhere with tall trees surrounding her and the only street was down the middle.
Nevertheless she knew where she was going. Before each mission it was every member’s job, a requirement really, to learn the terrain of where they were going. That way, it was impossible to get lost and easy to find cover if needed.

If she cut through the forest she would get there before sunset. Since she didn’t know what was going on in this town besides the information that Harrison just given her, she didn’t want to be walking in the middle of a forest at night. So taking out her cell, she tried to locate where she was on her GPS to get a better idea where she was. Once she knew, she turned west and started walking through the forest. It was a short cut so she would get home before dark .
Alone with her thoughts, she thought back to what she had learned just a few minutes before. How could he be missing? Eli, with all the training and experience he had, still managed to disappear out of thin air. According to the investigators their was no trace of him or his team. How do three people go missing without a trace? Surly someone must know something.

Then there was the whole thing about Thutmose. After years of searching, he turns up, not in Egypt but in a small town in Michigan where the population reaches 700. Did Eli come face to face with him too and meet his doom? No, she wouldn’t believe that. She was sure that he was in hiding somewhere until they got there. She was sure of it. But why would he hide from the other investigators?
Caught in her own thoughts, she didn’t notice that it was quite, too quite for a forest. As she walked along the trees, she at first didn’t notice the sounds behind her. When she heard a twig snap she concentrated more on her surrounding than her thoughts. Footsteps. Those where definitely footsteps. Walking, she listened more carefully. Someone was following her and she didn’t know who. Trained in situations like these, she didn’t look around or give away that she knew she was being followed. In turn her heart accelerated, getting ready for whatever was coming. The footsteps seemed to be coming at a faster pace. Who ever was following her wasn’t walking; they were running, and fast.

I nice continuation to this story... A little bit confusing because you repeated some lines. And this part he was laid to rest in the three pyramids  makes me wonder... Did they cut him in 3 pieces to lay him to rest in all the 3 pyramids.... No... you surely meant to say in one of the pyramids.... \:D  Congratulations on the feature... \:cool\:
