Yukin and Lisan sat on the swings enjoying the air. He couldn't understand why he was so nervous around her. He kept looking back at her and when she looked back at him, he would look down.
Yukin: She only a girl (he said to himself). You've had plenty of them. She's no different.
But deep down he knew she was. They had only been dating for a few weeks and yet each time was like a new moment with her.
Yukin: She only a girl (he said to himself). You've had plenty of them. She's no different.
But deep down he knew she was. They had only been dating for a few weeks and yet each time was like a new moment with her. Yukin: You know, I have never truly met someone quite like you. I mean, usually I am the one that is putting the relationship on hold or having them waiting for me to call. But it's not the same with you Lisan.
Lisan gave a curious frown. Lisan: I don't know whether to take that as a good thing or bad. You sure know how to charm a lady. (she laughed). You are such a smooth talker. No wonder the women love to be around you.
Yukin: That's just it! At times I don't know what to say or how to act around you. I am usually calm and cool. But with you I'm mush. I don't know what to do.
Lisan: Well you can start by giving me a push. Yukin gave a small smile and walked over to Lisan's swing. He gripped softly on top of hers and pulled back on her swing, he could smell the lavender scent of her hair. He held on for a couple of seconds longer to look at her. To feel her skin under his hand. And then he let go. She laughed as he pushed her higher and higher in the air. And soon he began to laugh as well.
I am going to marry this girl, he thought.
Lisan: Yukin, Yukin! Lisan: Yukin!
Lisan called out to him from across the room.
Lisan: Yukin, wake up. I've made it back.
He mumbled a few words but was deep in his dream. Even when she turned on the light, he still did not wake. She smiled at him.
Lisan: Poor thing. Lia must have really wore him out today. She walked closer to him in the bed. Admiring how peaceful he looked. She remembered that look when they shared a home together. She could hear the heavy breathing, yet not a snore in his voice. She remembered how warm his body felt when he wrapped his arms around her body as they slept at night. She was about to walk closer again but stopped.
Lisan: NO! (she told herself) Get it together girl. He can't do this to you. Instead she walked into Lia's room to check on her. She too was sound asleep. It was during this time that she definitely looked like him. She walked towards the crib and kissed her daughter on the cheek.
She smiled back and returned to the room. After several tries to wake him she decided it was no use. He would too tired to drive home anyway. She slept next to him that night. But made sure that she slept under the covers in full pajamas. The next morning she woke to the sound of clanking in the kitchen. After dressing for the morning she went to see what was going on.
Yukin: Good morning. I was making breakfast when I realized your sink was acting a little funny. So I wanted to fix it. Save you money from a repairman.
Lisan: Thanks. I was going to call that in, but you saved me the trouble.
She grabbed a piece of toast from the counter and looked around. She could tell he had also done some cleaning. Lisan: Where is Lia?
Yukin: Diana picked her up, said she was taking her to a play date.
Lisan: That is right. I almost forgot. Thanks for taking care of that. I had a couple of late house calls.
Yukin: If you don't mind, once I finish I will be out of your way. You must have plenty of things planned for the day. Lisan: Actually, I don't. Just cleaning and getting some chores. Hence the reason for the playdate.
Instead the two of them sat around the house and talked. As a thank you, Lisan made him his favorite, key lime pie.
Yukin: Man I miss this pie. You were always good at baking. Don't know why you didn't start your own business.
Lisan: I was better at other things. Plus I like just cooking for family better than a bigger audience.
They talked more as he helped her with chores around the house. Before long the day turned into late afternoon. Meanwhile, Kima was back at their home waiting for Yukin's arrival. He had not been home since the day before. When she woke she realized that he had not returned at all when his pillow had not moved. No phone call, no texts. She was beginning to get worried, and worse, she was beginning to get upset.
Kima: Lisan In the early evening, Lisan had received a call for a last minute appointment. She walked into the building.
Secretary: Good morning boss, your 5:30 is waiting for you at your station.
Lisan: Thanks. She checked her mail and walked into her room. She stopped as she was greeted by her client. Lisan: Kima.
She almost stumbled on her words.
Kima: Hello Lisan. It's been years since I last met you.
Lisan: It has. And you're here for an appointment. What can I do for you?
Kima: What do you think? Lisan: Excuse me?
Kima: What do you think I should do? I mean, you are the expert. I was thinking of a change. Get rid of something, change something. Thoughts?
Lisan: Well, I would suggest a new do. Something that shapes your face better.
Kima looked in the mirror.
Kima: I agree. I think that would do fine. As Lisan was getting her equipment together Kima was also looking her over. What is it that she had that she did not?
Kima: You know. I think that as the mothers of Yukin's children, it is time that we sit and chat. Woman to woman.
Lisan was a little taken back by the offer. She was uneasy of the thought. But deep inside she too agreed that they should talk. Get things out in the open. She was hesitant for a while.
Lisan: I think I can arrange for something this evening after your appointment if you have time.
Kima: My night is open. Later that night the two women met at Theon's. It was a nice bistro down from the shop.
Kima: I want to thank you for the cut. It does look quite nice. I just hope Yukin likes it. He has been a little distant lately. Occupied with business and other things. So I thought changing my look would be better. Something to make him happy.....anyway. I just had to change before meeting you. Couldn't stand the leftover hair on my clothes. Lisan: It's alright. I know he will like it. So....you wanted to talk.
Kima: Really I wanted to give you more of a warning, wife to mistress.
Lisan: Excuse me. I think you are mistaken. I am no one's mistress.
Kima: Of course you aren't. You are the other woman in a loving marriage. He leaves his wife to spend time with you and then comes back home to me. Let's be honest with each other Lisa. Kima spoke quietly and calmly so that the other table would not hear. I understand that you and Yukin had a history, but that is all it is, history. I am not going to sit and have you interfere with my marriage because of something you two had years ago. So I would advice you to leave my husband alone. He is mine. I married him. He loves me. Lisan was embarrassed. This was not what she thought when she came for. Instead of getting loud, she calmly excused herself from the table and left without saying another word. Kima continued to eat her meal and when she was done, paid the bill and left. It was almost two weeks since her dinner with Kima. She had avoided Yukin's calls to the house and her job. She was not afraid, she just didn't want to deal with what was going on.
It had been raining for days and when it was finally warm enough she decided to take Lia to the park. Also, to clear her head. She was so occupied in her thoughts that she had not realized Lia's squealing and pointing. Suddenly she realized what she was doing.
Lisan looked up towards the direction of her pointing and saw Yukin coming over to them as he shut his car door. He quickly picked the little girl up.
Yukin: Hello my moon and stars.
She laughed as her father held her in his arms.
Yukin: It's been a long time. Are you going to the park today?
He looked up at Lisan and she nodded.
Yukin walked her over to the playground that was just a few yards away. He placed her on her favorite ride at the park.
Yukin: Now do like I taught you. That's right. Great girl!
Lisan reluctantly followed behind them. She had been trying to not talk to him since the last weeks and now here he was at the park with them. They both watched as Lia played for a while on the toy.
Yukin: She's getting really good at it. At first I would have to hold on to it with her. She's such a fast learner.
Lisan smiled back at him in agreement.
He laughed as she rocked back and forth on the toy.
Yukin: That's right! It was getting late but they allowed Lia to stay longer. The two parents sat on the nearby bench to watch as she played in the sand.
Yukin: It seems like she grows an inch every time I don't see her. I've missed her....I've missed you both. Lisan: Don't start.
Yukin: You've been avoiding me for weeks Lisan. What did I do? Whatever I did, tell me so I can make it better.
Lisan: You got married.
Lisan: Your wife came to my job. We talked. She doesn't want me around. She doesn't want Lia around. I don't want to mess up your marriage Yukin. Yukin: Mess up my marriage? I don't have a marriage, I have an arrangement. I had no choice in the matter.
Lisan: You don't have to go into this again. I can't do this with you. I just don't want to be the other woman. It tore my family apart and I am not going to do the same thing. Yukin: Whatever Kima said to you, I will fix it. You are not breaking up my marriage. This was never my choice.
Lisan: But if I was never here, if we never saw each other again, you would not be leaving your home to spend time at my house, leaving your son, leaving your wife.
Yukin: But we are here. And I never stopped thinking about you. Yukin: You are where I want to be Lisan. With you.
Lisan: I can't do that. Not to your wife, not to Yuyin. It would be so selfish of me to say leave them both. But I won't. You have your family and there is no true room for me in it. I know that. I've lived with that notion for some time now.
Yukin: I love you (he whispered, just enough for her to hear). She looked up at him. She was torn between her feelings. How could she let him get to her like that. There was a silence between them. He tried to move closer. His hand reached out to touch the side of her face. Lisan: It's time we better go. He walked over to pick up Lia. They both didn't like the moment he had to say goodbye. As always she began to whimper.
Yukin: zài jiàn love.
Lia: zài jiàn Dada.
He kissed her on the head and placed her in the stroller. He walked over to Lisan and then walked towards his car. Lisan grabbed the stroller and walked away as Lia waved goodbye to him from her stroller.
It's been months since my computer crashed and I had to recreate this family. For fans of this story, I hope you find the next chapters to be good. Thanks for reading.
