 The next day Lynsea woke up. It was Sunday. Lynsea rose from her bed.

I need to call Maureen. She has to know everything about yesterday. I hope she doesn't mind it's 8 AM.

She grabbed her phone from under her pillow and called her. "Hello? Who's this?" asked a sleepy voice.

"It's me, Lynsea. You need to come over at my house. Now! I've got important things to tell you."

"Can't this wait until afternoon?" The sleepy voice sounded irritated.

"Noooo, you need to come now. Pretty, pretty please?" Lynsea begged her.

Maureen mumbled something. "Fine. I'll be there in half an hour. Ciao." Maureen hang up. After half an hour Maureen arrived at Lynsea's house. They went upstairs to Lynsea's bedroom.

"Tell me everything about your date. In detail," said Maureen with enthusiasm.

Lynsea told her everything. About his mother, the walk in the park, the dinner, and the kiss in the park. "Awww, you finally got your first kiss! How sweet. Have you DTR'ed yet?!" Maureen giggled. Lynsea's face went from joyful to dreary. "I don't know. I don't think so. But he said he liked me. And kissed me. And .. well .. I don't know."

Maureen looked straight at Lynsea, but she turned her head away. The two best friends talked for hours when they finally said goodbye to each other.

"I'll see you tomorrow," Maureen said and hugged Lynsea.

"See you tomorrow," Lynsea repeated. The next day it was early in the morning when school already started. Randy lay with his upperbody on the table, almost asleep. Lynsea didn't know exactly what to say, so she didn't say anything at all. "Can I sit here? Stephanie and Jessica wanted to sit next to each other .. so .." Lou didn't continue his question.

"Uh, yeah, sure. Otherwise I'll be sitting alone." Maureen sat with a bored face in the back of the classroom. "Steph, have you heard it?" Jessica looked at Stephanie's face.

"No, what?" Her face turned red. She hated it when she didn't know all the gossips.

Jessica bent her head to the left to whisper into Stephanie's ear.

"Lynsea and Randy had a date this weekend. Rumour has it that he kissed her. I don't know for sure."

"WHAT?!" screamed Stephanie. Everbody looked at her, but she continued whispering to Jessica.

"We've gotta do something about it, Jess. I know exactly what to do."

Jessica wanted to ask Stephanie what she wanted to do then, but Mrs. Davids walked in. "Alright class, be quiet for a minute. I have an important meeting within twenty minutes. You can leave the classroom but you have to be quiet in the hallways." Mrs. Davids went to her desktop while the class left the classroom. In the hallways Stephanie approached Randy.

"Errhmm, Randy .. Can I talk to you for a minute?" asked Stephanie.

"Sure. Why not," answered Randy with a calm tone of voice. Maureen and Lynsea were standing in the hallway too.

"Maureen, he is standing there. Should I talk to him?" Lynsea asked desperately.

"Yeahhh, you should talk to him. Tell him you had a blast last night. Go on." Maureen pushed her in the back. But then Lynsea saw Randy and Stephanie walking away, hand in hand. So Lynsea went back to Maureen. "I just saw Randy and Stephanie walking hand in hand. What am I supposed to do?"

"What?! Follow them then! Don't dally!" Lynsea followed them. They were seated in the canteen. She didn't want to be discovered, so she hid herself behind the wall. She could see them, but not hear them. "Randy, I need to clear up some things .. and I need to confess some things." She turned her head to Randy. "Back then, I broke up with you because I loved Eli too. But we broke up a few days ago and that's when I realized that I was still in love. With you. These feelings never went away, Randy." "I don't care, Steph. You screwed it up. I was heartbroken, devastated. But I'm healed now. I don't love you anymore. I'm in love with someone else. Someone better." He turned his head away and stood up. Stephanie stood up too. She grabbed his hand. "No! Can't you see I love you? Why can't you be in love with me? I .. I .. " She stopped screaming. She grabbed his back in despair and kissed him passionately. Due the shock Randy couldn't think for a moment. Oh my, is this really happening?. Lynsea sighed slowly and looked back again. Oh yes, it is. Oh my, oh my.. I can't bear to see this anymore.

She walked away. After a few seconds Randy realized what was happening. "Get off me, Stephanie! I said I don't love you! I'm in love with Lynsea. You're so selfish. I .. I don't know what to say anymore." He walked away. Lynsea went back to the lockers. She felt dizzy, nauseous.

I could have known. I could have known I wasn't the one for him.

 "Hi, Lyns. What's up? You seem upset," Randy asked, caming out of the blue. "Yeah.. Randy .. why couldn't you be honest with me? Why couldn't you just say you were using me to get back Stephanie. I mean .. at least you could have asked. But now ..I believed you were different, Randy. You really changed my mind. I really thought you loved me." "What are you talking about, silly?" He wanted to smile, but her face was still serious. "Don't act like you don't know anything, Randy. I saw you too kissing in the canteen. Stupid of me to think that I was enough."

"Oh Lynsea.. wait.." But Lynsea didn't wait. She just walked away.
"Lynsea, please! Let me explain this." He tried to call her back. In vain. No, Randy. This is the best for both of us.

And so, Lynsea left the school. She wanted to go home. Home, where she felt safe.
