This part is a little short and I apologize. For some reason the downtown area for my neighborhood is realllllllly glitchy.

Thank you to everyone who is reading and commenting. It means the world to me!

Welcome to Part 7 of The Legacy of Music!

This part is a little short and I apologize. For some reason the downtown area for my neighborhood is realllllllly glitchy.

Thank you to everyone who is reading and commenting. It means the world to me!

This story is inspired by "August Rush".
Evan woke up and for a moment couldn't remember where he was. It was early, the others in the room were still sound asleep. Soon the crazy man Wizard would be awake as well...and Evan would have to find somewhere else to stay. There was nothing else to do but look around the falling apart house. One room, the one he was in, seemed to be for the younger ones while the other room was for the older kids. Down stairs was empty but the next room caught Evan's eye. There were instruments everywhere. Guitars, drums, pianos...and a violin in the corner. Evan's hands ached to touch it, to run his fingers over the strings. What would it hurt? They were going to kick him out anyway. Tentavily he picked up the instrument and felt something stirring in the pit of his stomach. As soon as he ran the bow slowly across the strings, music filled the room. A silent melody only he could hear bekoned him to play more. "What the hell? Arthur..." Wizared growled as the noise from the house awoke him. He stormed through the door, stopping dead in his tracks. "I'll kill him!" Arthur exclaimed running down and nearly into Wizard.
Evan didn't hear either of them, just continued to listen to the sweet song.
Lea stood outside of her new home and smiled...a new start. Once they had found the will, they immediatly went to Kristen's lawyer. She was able to use some of her inheritance to buy a small but comfy home while the old woman's house was being sold. Jamie's cousin Kari took her shopping, which turned into a very long day at Riverside Mall. Lea got to know Kari and was really beginning to like her. She even got to learn alot about Jaime. The house wasn't too extravagant but it was hers...no one else's. She had no idea how long she would even be in this house anyway, nothing was certain until she found her little brother. The house had a small extra room, Lea knew exactly what she would use it for. She figured that her brother would be about 12 and tried to decorate it for his age. Now all she had to figure out was where to start looking for him. Her memory had come back but it was all tangled and none of the visions were complete only certain fragments were there. She laid back on her bed and closed her eyes, trying to concentrate on that last night with him.

There was something, something about a woman taking him. She just couldn't remember where she came from.
It was then that she heard it...a melody so soft, she almost missed it. At first she ignored it...probably a neighbor playing the stereo too loud. It kept nagging at her, pulling invisible strings attatched to her body. Finally she went outside and it got louder. She faced another way and it got quieter, it was coming from only one direction. "There you are, I've been ringing the doorbell...Lea you ok?" Jamie asked, his voice was almost drowned out by the music.
"Do you hear that?" She said softly, afraid to break the connection.
"Hear what?"
"The music...you don't hear it?"
"Lea...there's no music," Jamie replied.
"Where do you think it comes from?" Evan asked looking up at the night sky through Wizard's hole filled roof.
"Music is the connection between all living things Evan...whatever music you're hearing is your connection to someone or something out there...just waiting for you to comne find it," Wizard said softly.
"Do you think they can hear me?"
"I hear ya...I'm sure the ones you are looking for you can hear you too."
"I hope so..." Evan said with a faint smile. The next morning Wizard woke Evan early. He took him to the same park that Evan had met Arthur at. After placing the violin on the stage and handing him the bow, Wizard turned to him with a small smile.
"This is your one shot...show me what you got."
Wizard bent down and dropped a dollar in the Jar and took a few steps back. Evan took a deep breath and found that pull in his stomach. He began to play with the same intensity as the day before. Wizard watched with amazement as people came to listen to him, all commenting how young he was. Evan didn't notice or seem to care, he was so wrapped up in the music swirling around him. After an hour of playing non stop, Wizard made him take a break.
"You got some talent kid...something I haven't seen in a long time...I'll tell you what...I'll let you stay in the house and you can keep half of your tips," Wizard said with a strange smile. Evan didn't know what to say at first, he really needed a place to stay while he looked for his family.
"Sure...why not," he finally replied.
"Good, good...now we just need to find you a name...one that people will remember."
"What's wrong with the one I have?"
"It doesn't stand out...that and...It'll make it easier for the people you ran away from to find you."
"What about that?' Evan asked pointing to the van passing by. Wizard's face lit up and he smiled. A couple of days later....

After a long day at the park, Wizard finally allowed him to return back to the house. Evan sighed heavily going up to the roof, it was the only place where he could hear the music...
Evan stopped in his tracks, usually he was the only one up here but there was someone sitting on the couch. Slowly he made his way over. A pale girl was laying on the couch, he eyelids were almost closed. Evan backed up, trying not to disturb her.
"You can stay if you want," Her weak voice called out.
"Are...you ok?" He asked softly taking a couple steps closer.
She sat up and glanced over at him with the saddest eyes he ever saw. Just by looking at her, he knew something was wrong.
"I'm ok, just a little sick...who are you?" she coughed.
"I'm Evan...but Wizard wants me to go by August," Evan shrugged a little but was glad he got a small smile from her.
"I'm Keelie, I'm nothing special so Wizard makes me clean the house while the others are out," she shrugged as well.
"What exactly is this place?" Evan asked. Arthur had told him it was a place for kids to feel safe but he was beginning to think it was much more than that...a scheme that Wizard was playing to his advantage.
"It's a business...kids need a place to stay so they work for Wizard, paying him rent with their tips. It's not the greatest place to be but it beats living in an orphanage....or so I've heard," Keelie coughed again.
"That's where I came from," Evan said looking down at the ground, wondering where the music was that night.
"Why did you run away?"
"To..."
"Come on you two, Wizard wants us all in bed early tonight," Misty said from the ladder. Both of them glanced over and nodded.
"Hey Evan....get out of here while you can...don't be like Misty and Philip," She said softly, referring to the older kids who lived here as well. He watched her walk away and sighed heavily. I'm so sorry it's so short!!!! Gotta love glitchy neighborhoods!

Stay tuned for part 8!
