I have spent all my life reading mystery and crime novels, but I never thought I will end up being a part of one. And to think that my best friend became victim of this nightmare…

I have spent all my life reading mystery and crime novels, but I never thought I will end up being a part of one. And to think that my best friend became victim of this nightmare… Everything started when my friend Amanda asked me to meet her in the diner near my place. I was so happy to see her. She has been my best friend since high school, but since she signed up for the art collage, I haven’t seen her. That has been a year ago and now she looked so different, she was like a model, a star. She told me how she became a model and she gave me three of her pictures of her. She looked great. She told me to keep them so if she disappears to be able to show them to the police. That was a shocking request and when I asked her what was going on, she said she is in trouble and wishes to not get me involved in it with details. But little did she know I was already involved. The same night somebody run on my apartment door. It was a detective that wished to ask me several questions about Amanda. He asked me all kind of questions about her but I couldn’t tell him much, since we haven’t spoken for a year now.
“This is all,” he said at the end. “Thank you for your time.”
“One more questions,” I asked. “What is going on? What is she involved in?”
“Oh, she went missing,” he said calmly. “She didn’t sign in at her hotel this evening, and she left an order to the receptionist to call the police if she doesn’t.”
“Yes, she told me she is in trouble.”
“Well, if you hear anything from her, give me a call,” he said and with a gentle touch on his hat left. I couldn’t stay with the thought she is missing. I had to do something. I didn’t know where to start; I didn’t know her hotel name even. I took her pictures out and saw that something was written on them, a mobile number and a name: 443-132-56, Bonaparte. I immediately called the number. It rung three times and somebody answered. But there was no voice; I just knew somebody was listening.
“Bonaparte?” I asked.
“Big bear hotel, room 22,” a male voice said and hang up.
I called up again but they hang up on me this time. Who ever it was, I accepted it to be a friend, since it was Amanda who gave me the picture. I put on my coat and headed to hotel. The hotel was nice but I didn’t know how to make pass the receptionist. And even if I get to room 22 how would I enter it.
I entered the hotel and was stunned by its beauty.
“Excuse me,” I said at the receptionist. “I would like to book a room for the night.”
“Of course, Miss,” the man said and looked at his book. “You are in room 24.”
When I was signing up for the room I slide my eyes down to see who signed for room 22. The name was Amanda Tiles. I went up stairs for my room, and knocked on Amanda’s room. Nobody answered. I took out a hairpin from my hair and opened the door. I always wanted to be a detective and all those practices finally paid off. The room was dark but I didn’t turn on the lights so nobody will notice somebody is inside. I looked around and an image in the mirror scared me. There was a man in the room! “So, Alexandra,” the man smiled. “I’m Bonaparte.”
“How do you know me?” I asked in surprised. I have never seen this man before in my life.
“I know a lot of things,” he said.
“So you know what happened to my friend?”
“Not yet. So you will be her replacement?”
“Replacement? For what?”
“For the mission. The kidnappings. She told you nothing?”
“No…”
“Look I cannot talk at the moment. I must go now. I’ll call you later.” And so he left… the room and me full with questions.
