I'm trying to catch Vera story up with the rest of the ladies. So this chapter will mostly be about Vera and then Cheryl.=) **~~~Vera's Story~~~** David stood up and faced me.
Vera: So David what do you have to say for yourself this time?
David: There is nothing I can say.
Vera: You are so right! You can’t say anything to cover your butt! David: Can we talk about this at home?
Vera: WHY? WHY SHOULD WE? YOU WERE MAKING OUT AND CHEATING ON ME OUT HERE WITH HER?!? WHY SHOULD WE KEEP ANY MORE SECRETS?!?
David: Vera, I’m sorry.
Vera: Sorry?!? Sorry for what, getting caught?
David: No, it’s nothing like that.
Vera: Then what is it? Please tell me what it is, if it’s not like that!
David: Calm down
Vera: Calm down?!? Why should I; I just caught my lying husband cheating on me once again!!!
David: Baby, please.
Vera: Don’t you baby me! David I’m sick and tired of this!
David: I know-I’m sorry.
Vera: Just stop it- JUST STOP IT (I screamed)
David became quiet.
Vera: I am so tired of hearing your lies of you being sorry! (I began to tear up) I’m sorry for
this and I’m sorry for that- Lies, all Lies.
David: But V.
Vera: How could you do this to me David? How?!? I am supposed to be your wife, your partner for life. (Tear began to run down my face) What did I do or what didn’t I do? Did I not make you happy? I give you all the love I can give and then give you a daughter, a child you wanted so much, and you do this to me…. -to us!!!
David: Yes V, you make me happy.
Vera: Then what am I lacking David?
David: Nothing Love.
Vera: It has to be something; because I just caught you cheat on me once again.
He says nothing
Vera: You know what; I don’t know what to tell you. You must not love me.
David: No, Vera I do love you.
Vera: And you must not love Dawn either.
David: Yes I do.
Vera: So why would you do us like this?!? Why would you force us out your life? (I began to walk off)
David:So this is it?
I stopped in my tracks
David:The end of us forever?
Vera: You brought this on yourself David. (I said going back on my mission) Instead of going straight home, I decided to go to local bar. I wanted to just get away from all the drama that David had brought into our life. I had so many thoughts going in and out of my head that I was drinking myself crazy. “Was it me? Did I cause this? Was he not happy at home? What am I not doing? Why do he keep doing this to me? Am I truly going to leave him? Dawn needs her father, can I just do that to her”; all those questions and more where popping in my head.
I needed someone to talk to, someone who would just listen. Since Whitney was dodging my calls and visits, I decided to call Cheryl.
Cheryl: I can’t believe David would do this Vera.
Vera: You and me both. (I said drinking my fourth cup of nectar)
Cheryl: So now what?
Vera: I don’t know Ce-Ce, I truly don’t know. I loved and been with David all my life; I don’t know how to cope without him. I should have left when he cheated the first time, but now that I have Dawn, I can’t just up and leave. Cheryl: Why not Vera? I love David as brother, but I don’t recommend you staying in a marriage that you are not happy with.
Vera: Then what; I have no place to go.
Cheryl: Yes you do, you can live with me until you can clear everything up.
I thought about it.
Vera: I can’t do that; I can’t intrude on you and Evin’s time.
I began to take a sip of my drink but noticed that I was running low.
Vera: I’m going to go get another drink (Hiccup) you want one?
Cheryl: No thank you, I have work in the morning, besides one of us have to be a little sober to get us home.
We laughed
I walked over to the bar, while Cheryl went to play darts. I sat down and ordered me a drink; after the bartender sat it down, I slow sipped my drink. I was still in thought of David’s infidelity. I wanted to cry, but I decided that it was neither the right place nor the right time.
After finishing my drink I finally got up to join Cheryl in her games of darts, but when I turn around from the bar, I saw the girl David was cheating on me with? I don’t know what came over me, but I began to walk towards her.
Vera: Hello Mistress (Hiccup)
Ava: Excuse me?
Vera: You heard me (hiccup) I called you mistress; is that not what you are?
Ava: I know that you are only trying to take your anger out on me because of David’s mistake, but …
Vera: But nothing! I was just trying to be nice by saying hello! (Hiccup)
Ava: You can be nice by leaving me alone. I can’t help it that your man loved me too.
When she said that, it must have triggered something because I began to get loud and to get into her face. Vera: LOVE YOU?!? LOVE YOU?!? LADY, YOU WAS JUST A SIDE LINE CHICK!
Ava: OH SINCE I’M JUST A SO CALLED SIDE LINE THEN EXPLAIN TO ME WHY HE SPENT EVERYDAY CALLING ME? WHY HE TOLD ME HE LOVED ME? OR WHY DID WE SPEND A WEEKEND TOGETHER IN PLEASANTVILLE JUST LAST MONTH?
Vera: LIES- ALL LIES
Ava: I don’t know you to lie to you; why would I lie?
I began to think- She was right. Ava: Vera please don’t come to me like I did something wrong, go to David. I didn’t hurt your heart, her did. He never told me about you; I would have never dated him if he had told me about you. (She began to tear up) You are not the only one heartbroken.
Cheryl came over
Cheryl: Vera let’s go. I don’t want you thrown in jail for fighting in this bar. (She said walking me to the door)
I looked back at Ava as we walked away; I began to think about what she said. She was right-it was not her fault, the only person at fault was David. He not only hurt me, but he hurt her as well. Before we left out the door, I shout that I was sorry to Ava. Once I got home, it was really late, so late that it was another day. I walked up stairs thinking David would be sleep.
Once I got up the steps, I saw David sitting in a chair, I guess waiting for me to come home.
David: Where have you been?
Vera: Why should it matter to you?
David: I’m your husband that why!
Vera: Soon to be ex. (I stood there.)
Silence
David: I came home wanting to talk and you were not here.
Vera: Okay, I was out.
David: The daycare called me to come get Dawn because they said you never came.
Vera: So you want a cookie? (I said being sarcastic.)
David: Look Vera I’m not trying to argue with you.
Vera: So don’t.
David: Just because you are mad at me does not mean you need to take it out on Dawn. You are still her mother and you have responsibilities.
Vera: Hmmm I find it kind of funny for you to come to me talking crazy as if you were doing what you were suppose to be doing,
David: I’m trying to stay calm, but I’m having a hard time.
Vera: I don’t care.
David: I’m trying to apologize Vera, can I please have that much?!? (He said getting up)
Vera: David, I don’t want to hear it. You would be wasting your and mine time & energy.
David: Well if you don’t want to hear it then take it. (He said trying to give me flowers)
Vera: Ah no, I don’t want your flowers. Flowers will not help me heal my broken heart, they won’t help fix our marriage, and they defiantly won’t help us build back our broken home.
David: I give up…
I stood there just watching him. I couldn’t believe that he thought flower would fix everything.
David: I am trying Vera! I want you to stay with me; don’t leave me! I understand I messed up again, but I am human. People make mistakes and that all I did. It was a mistake.
Vera: Oh really?!? Was it a mistake that you snuck out the house to live a double life? Was it a mistake that you called that girl everyday and told her that you loved her?!? WAS IT A FREAKING MISTAKE WHEN YOU AND SHE SPENT A WEEKEND TOGETHER IN PLEASANTVILLE LAST MONTH?!? (I was now angry) PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME DAVID WHY ARE THESE JUST LITTLE MISTAKES?!?
David Just stared.
Vera: Yeah, you didn’t know I knew that. Well while I was out and about, I end up run in to her again. She told me everything I needed to know.
David: I don’t want her.
Vera: I can’t tell David, you did all this stuff just to be with her. You told this girl you loved her and it must be true, because you are sneaking out on the family we made together. I’m hurt… David: I know that V; just let me make it up to you.
Vera: IT’S TOO LATE!!!
David: No, it’s not too late.
Vera: Yes it is…
Vera: It is so late that I want you to move out my house.
David: No, What?
Vera: I think you heard me. (I said walking towards Dawn’s bedroom) I want you out by tomorrow evening.
Once I got into Dawn’s room, I locked the door and began to cry. I was finally able to get it all out. I didn’t want anyone to see me cry.
“Mama”
I turned around and saw Dawn up.
Vera: Toots why are you still up?
I picked her up from her crib and held her so tight.
Vera: Mommy loves you….
I took her into the kitchen to feed her. David was in the living room sitting on the couch with his head down. I just walked passed him to give Dawn her oatmeal. After that I took her into the living room to teach her how to speak.
David: Vera?
I looked up from Dawn up to David.
David: Do I really have to go?
I just stared
David: I have nowhere else to go baby.
I kept staring…
David: Please Vera. (With tears in his eyes) I picked Dawn up from the floor and walked towards him.
Vera: You have until this weekend.
With that I was off to the park with my baby…
On the way to the park, I got a phone call.
Vera: Hello…..
**~~~ Cheryl's Story~~~**
After my husband left for war, I found myself to myself. I didn’t want to deal with anyone else, but my daughter.Beside Vera was dealing with David's cheating and Whitney was dodging people. The first week of his departure, I took off of work. I want to be alone to figure this thing out. The next week I decided that I had to be strong and do what’s needed to be done for my daughter, so I went to work. After work I would come home to my daughter and enjoy her presence. Every time I looked at her, it felt as if Evin was home.
Oh how I miss him.
We made a promise to write one another every week. He wanted me to send him pictures of Everlynn and me with in every letter. Of course that was the least I could do, so I did it. Every letter I sent was full of heartfelt words of how I missed him and how much I wanted him home. Every responds letter he sent was the same.
After Evin left for war, I made my life into a routine.
Work, come home, cook.... Feed Everlynn, bathe her, put her to sleep.....
Feed me, take a bath, and then sleep.
My routine never changed; there was no room to add anything and no room for changes.
I was existing, not living life. Then one day I got a phone call with devastating news....
