We live our lives from day to day. Never really giving much thought as to why things happen. Our lives are often impacted by the choices others make. We learn how to live with those choices, even when the choices are made by our children.
We were so happy that mom would be able to stay in Fred’s old house. We got her a room at the Sunset Valley Inn for the weekend. Her belongings had arrived. Fred and I were going to get it all set up for her. We were very happy that she was going to be so close to us. So for the weekend we sent the dads on a weekend camping trip. “Fred, where are we going to put everything?”
“It’s OK Fred… we can talk about color in the morning. I’m tired, you’re tired... We both need some sleep.” Fred went to bed, with colors dancing in her head.
The next couple of days was quite an improvement. Fred worked her magic.
Oh… and I helped!
Mom’s new home was ready. Oh, there was one teeny tiny small detail that we sort of forgot to tell her… Really, small detail. Nothing, big, really... Well Fred and I didn’t see a problem with it.
Sean and Nita’s father, daddy...William, lived there too. Hope mom is OK with that. Well, William didn’t really stay in the main house. Fred had a guest house added on to the back of the house. William was staying there since the property was up for sale. I guess you could say he took care of the house. A few days later it was time for Mikey’s birthday party. We had one big party for all the children. It was a day to celebrate.
Everyone got a bike for their birthday. Now they can ride all over town and to Grandma’s too. And so the kids did. You would’ve thought we gave them cars.
Mom, and Daddy Collina were getting along well. I think he likes mama. We know it’s too early for mama but we had hopes. They loved having the grandchildren over. Fred would drive Rowan over while the kids rode their bikes. There was still a shadow hanging over all happiness. No one knew that the mysterious lady had followed the family once again back to Sunset Valley… “OK kids! Eat up…Grandpa is going to take you all back home in a minute!” Weekends were filled with trips to the park. Nita took them often.
“What have you guys been up too?”
“Mikey always gets to be the captain!...DAD… I want to be the captain too!”
“No you cannot! You are a girl!” Mikey said “A girl Captain..ARGHH!”
“Mikey…Girls can be captains too! You take turns, alright?” “…See???? I told you so!” “Kiss and make up…Listen…Crystal honey…” “I will take you on a special trip very soon. To the stones... I will tell you something my mom, your grandma Aponi told me too.” “It’s something we Ohinyan’s all have to do. I have to pass on the legend to my first born…” But dad… Isn’t Mikey the first born? Later that night Nita came to me... ”Barb…Honey…I think it is time.” he said.
“Time for what?” and then he said the one thing I was not ready to hear.
“Time to tell Mike.”
My heart sank. Telling him brought fear. Fear that I would lose him. I cried on Nita’s shoulder until all was released. “Nita, I need a few days …OK?”
“Of course, It’s OK honey. Take as much time as you need.”
“Thank you Nita, I love you.”
“I love you back.”
I let several week pass by before I had the nerve to tell Mike. It was his right to know. I began...
“Mike we have to talk. This is very important that you know this…what Nita and I must tell you.” God, I didn’t know where to start...
“Please get comfortable Mike.”
Nita and I told him everything that we knew. How we found him and how he became ours. The questions were many but the ones I was most afraid of hearing were the last ones he asked. “Mama, who is she? Who is my real Mom? My Dad... who is he? Daddy, will I be able to find them?” Nita answered: “Son, we never found out who it was that left us such a precious gift…you are that gift.”
I felt the tears begin to rise and my throat was closing. I love this little boy. I hoped with all my heart that he would stay with me…us. But now that he knew our lives would be different. As I hugged him, he whispered in my ear “Mom, I love you.” He was sleepy. It was past his bedtime.
“I love you too, goodnight baby.”
I was uncertain of the future now. If he asks us to find them, then we will do our best to help him look for his parents. These are his choices to make. My heart was heavy and my steps were slow. I turned off his lights as I left his room.
“I love you son, more then you know.”
As the months past Crystal began her studies with Nita.
“Here we are butterfly! Here are the stones I’ve been telling you about.”
“You mean the ones grandma Aponi went to too?”
“Well… In Riverview there is an identical set of sacred stones.”
Nita began the teachings. (When a legend needs to be told) The Ancient People of the Native Sims tribes wrote their story down in a book and only the first born would learn of this story and pass it on. Your grandmother was a wonderful woman. She taught me the legend when I was just as old as you are now.
I studied the legend from a little boy your age, and as a teen and even into adult age. Grandma Aponi would tutor me and teach me the secrecies once a week. “We have to do this every day dad?” “No, not every day, just once a week, we will come here to this sacred place.”
... “Can I go fetch some butterflies dad?” “Crystal, now please come over here.”
“I like our weekly trips up here dad… I really feel special to be part of the ancient legend.”
The time flew by. It seemed that, just yesterday they were kids. .. Life was grand… Life was perfect.
Nita passed on the Legend and Crystal learned everything she could. The time they spent here in this magical place will forever be cherished.
Mike, Crystal, Holly and Rowan spent as much time as they could with Mama and Daddy Collina. I think I can safely say that mama, after several years have past, she is ready now to move forward with her life.
They loved their grandparents very much………No one saw HER standing there… ‘With this finger I am going to ring this doorbell… She did ring, but then when doubt set in ….She tiptoed away and ran….again…. “HELLO! Can I help you? ... MISS!!??” I shouted at her. “Is there something I can help you with? ... Do I know you? You seem so familiar to me... I’ve seen you before… where… oh my god... You’re the lady I saw at the cemetery in Riverview!"
“My name is Wanda, please, we need to talk.”
I could not imagine what she wanted to talk about. Meanwhile Mike was nearby.
This is his view of what he experienced:
I was coming home from grandmas and I saw mom talking to a lady.
I didn’t mean to, but when I heard my name I carefully took a step back behind the pillar. I didn’t hear everything then…but I felt it was all about me. The woman was talking about a little baby boy she abandoned 15 years ago. Could it be?
"Please Wanda, come in. Would you like some coffee, how about dinner? There is plenty left.”
I was being polite all the while my heart was beating itself out of my chest. Was this the woman who I felt she was?
‘Mike, honey… could you please go find Nita, he’s at the pond fishing. Please call your Aunt Fred and Uncle Sean, please tell them to come over at once.”
I did not know at that moment that Mike had heard us outside. He seemed so normal. But then I guess I did too.
Thank you all for reading and commenting Barb and I appreciate it very much. We would like to thank the Artists for the creations used in this chapter. We would also like to thank Mike and Wanda for their Sims. This has been very exciting for us!
