What will life bring to our Cherry now that she is getting married?

What will life bring to our Cherry now that she is getting married? Once again Cherry had climbed the never-ending stairs up to the lighthouse of the Galaad. There was no particular reason for that, except that she liked to stargaze and think about her life. Her life in Garden Valley, her new busy life on Galaad, and of course, her family and César. She was so lucky to have found such a sweet man after all the tragedy in her life, finally she would be able to live the normal, happy life. César had promised to go and yell at the workmen so that they would get the bunker-home cleaned before the wedding, and most importantly, the wedding night. But until her wedding night, Cherry would stay at the fire-station with all the snoring firefighters.

Dreaming about her wedding, Cherry smirked in her sleep. Her wedding would be so lavish that every sim on Galaad would remember it for years.
- How about the cake, chérie?
- Nononono... No cake, César, I want cherry pie...
- Cherry pie? But, ma petite cerise...
- I want cherry pie, honey... Besides, we're getting married in the pub, a fancy cake would be too much in the surroundings...
- I thought you wanted to make it lavish, Cherry...
- Yes, I do want to make it lavish but I don't want to make it too formal. Otherwise we could just go and book the church and some fancy hall and everything... Please, I just want to make it cute and cozy among our friends...
- If you want it, you'll have it, ma cerise...
For all that she was happy and waiting for her wedding day, Cherry was also worried about César. He had been so tired lately and it seemed like one night he had been the strong and vivid sim he used to be, and the next day he had become a frail old sim.

So whenever she had spare time from work and wedding preparations, Cherry read her work journals and books, trying to find a cure for César. She had known he was years and years older than she was but she had never expected him to become so frail so soon. All too soon...
- Good morning, honey, how are you today?... Tired?... Oh, César, I'm sure it's nothing but a sore back... Let's meet at the fire-station after work... Sure, love you...

Cherry sighed. The sooner they got married and the sooner they started trying for baby, the better. Poor César was so old and frail and she couldn't bear losing him. He was everything Cherry had ever hoped for...
For once Cherry didn't feel like going to work, not at all. She wanted to go to César's apartment and make him feel better, he had sounded so bad on the phone. But as soon as Cherry saw the hospital, her mind was filled with work, work, work and work.

Nothing but work.
Cherry ran to the fire-station in her normal clothes this time, being late once again. She rushed in only to find out that César was not feeling well, not at all...

- CÉSAR!!!! Oh my creator, is there a doctor?! PLEASE SOMEONE GET A DOCTOR!!!
- Please, César, don't leave me...

Cherry pleaded with all her heart and soul but César could no longer hear her.

He was waiting.
- No, please, go away... Let me have him, you took them all away from me, let me have him...

But Death felt no mercy. It wasn't the first time he had heard heartbreaking cries and lamentations, in fact they were part of his job. And when he was on call, there was nothing those little mortals could do about it.
- César des Bois Jaune, it is your time. Come.

Cherry sobbed hard, harder than ever. Everyone she loved was to be taken away from her and she couldn't understand it. What had she ever done wrong?

And why didn't César fight back?
- Please, I beg you Sir... You took my family, leaving me all alone on this side... Please let him stay here for a while, let me have some happiness in my life... Sir, please... Cherry was stunned, numb. Her heart was broken into tiny pieces that hurt like the pieces of broken glass. César was gone, he too, he was now with Cherry's family, in a place where Cherry could not go.

She had been left all alone again.
Slowly Cherry walked to the kitchen and to the fridge. Her stomach didn't care about her broken heart, it demanded food. Cherry picked up some ice-cream and sat to the table. The firefighters were taking care of everything, César's remains and everything. Did she want to go to the graveyard with them? No.

Ice-cream was so cold that Cherry's head was starting to ache.
Suddenly her phone started ringing.

- Cherry speaking...
- I just heard what happened and I'm so sorry, dear... I'm putting you on vacation until you feel better, your tickets are booked and boat is leaving in four hours... I'm so sorry, we all loved César very much... Take your time, Cherry, work will wait here.
- But...
- No buts, you are forbidden to make any phone calls to the hospital, understood?
- Yes...
- Good...
Cherry walked, or actually sleep-walked, to the firefighters' pole. She didn't want to take the stairs, she didn't feel like it.

Only two days later she would have walked down the stairs of the pub and married César.
Sliding down the pole Cherry decided that she would never fall in love again. It was too much trouble.

And she certainly didn't want to lose to the Grim Reaper again.
Champs les Sims.

It had been years since Cherry had visited it, the last time had been when she had gotten that unforgettable phone call about her family's death.

Tears started running down Cherry's cheeks and even her new dress couldn't cheer her up, as pink as it was. César had picked it for her, for their honeymoon. He had always wanted Cherry to look a bit more womanly.
Cherry rode her Kenspa to the nectary, walked straight to the nectar racks and poured herself a glassful.

Cherry nectar, how convenient.
After couple glassfuls of nectar, Cherry wasn't feeling as bad anymore, but the nectary's owner decided it was time to talk some sense into that silly lady. Sugar could get into her head way too quickly and then they would have to put her to bed.

- Mais, ma vieille, what eez eet?
- My... my fiancé died yesterday...
- Oh, ma pauvre fille! You must be feeling terrible!
- Kinda...
- Waz eet an accident?
- No, a heart-attack... Old age, they said...
- Je suis désolée, ma vieille, but nectar eez not the way out... Oui, c'est very good but the sugar... Not good...
- But...
- Keep your chin up, like you Simlandians say... There are many, many other sims in theez world..
- But...
Feeling a bit confused, Cherry went to the Catania Café, hoping to find her old friend Gaston there.

- Mais non, Gaston no longer work 'ere... 'E 'az 'eez family, six children and a nagging wife. 'E eez too busy...
- Oh... Well, can I have a fruit pie?
- Bien sûr, chérie...
While eating the fruit pie, Cherry thought about what the nectary's owner had said. There were indeed more fish in the seas but did she want any other fish than César?

She wanted a family.

And Cherry was a doctor so she was very well aware of the fact she would need a man to have babies with. But on the other hand, she didn't want to fall in love again, it hurt too much.
Cherry threw a coin in the fountain. She remembered her mother saying that if you throw a coin in a fountain you can make a wish, and that was what Cherry did.

She wished that there would be a solution to her problem, a way to have a family without having to bother with any heartbreaks.
Rest of the evening Cherry played chess with some old French sim. He was a brilliant opponent and the game cheered her up a bit.

Maybe there would be a day when she wouldn't be sad anymore...
- Do you have any books?
- Umm... Miss, theez eez a bookstore...
- Oh, but I mean, books in Simlish...
- Ah oui, I do 'ave some Simlish books over 'ere... But they are my own collection, not for sale, I'm afraid...
- Oh...
- But eef you want, you can join me when I read...
Cherry spent her second day in Champs les Sims reading books with the shopkeeper. There were hardly any customers because it wasn't the holiday season when the whole village would be bustling and crowded of tourists.

But Cherry was only happy to find some peace and silence. It eased her pain and heartbreak and for once she actually had some time to read something else than just work or study books.
Fishing for frogs, the brochure had said so Cherry, who had been very bored and cranky that morning, had went straight to the store and bought some supplies.

After that she walked to a pond not too far from the village, wearing her high heels to catch some frogs. As she had very little experience on fishing, Cherry didn't catch anything until sunset.

The frog was huge and ugly and made Cherry shudder, but then she suddenly remembered the old story about the princess and the frog... No way she was going to kiss that slimy thing but maybe there would be a prince for her, somewhere...

She would just have to start kissing some frogs to see if there was a prince hidden somewhere...

Will she adopt??? I hope so that would be cool, the only problem is that it wouldn't be related by blood to the Gardens but who cares?

I laughed out loud so many times... I know it's a sad tale, but the way you tell it is so clever, I had a blast reading it, no matter how inappropriate that sounds \;\) :P!  Midnight222 had a good idea, Cherry, a fling perhaps?  Gaston's replacement at the cafe looks promising... or perhaps one of those snoring firefighters?  Lol, seriously \:D

Oh Cherry, she's just not having any luck! Cesar seemed like such a lovely chap too. Surely she's not going to start kissing frogs though... \:P I have a sneaky suspicion that she could already be pregnant with Cesar's child, hmm? I might be wrong. Well written chapter Senja! I really hope that Cherry has some luck in the next one. \;\)

Ohhh, poor Cherry! The poor girl can't have much of her heart left after all that sadness and heartbreak. I know she does not want to love again, but I hope she finds someone who changes her mind.
