This is my new story called "Forbidden Friend" set in the medieval times. Esta is a girl who has one unusual friend, but will her friendship be forbidden with him? Can she save it by running away? Esta's POV

"C'mon, Blaze!" I called behind, my little sneaky fox following behind me. Yes, I know it is quite unusual to have a fox as a friend, but he is very kind and gentle. I feel like he's the only one who understands me. Even though I am human, I am very different from the rest of my people.
Blaze and I ran into the apple forest, filled with mouth-watering apples, lemons, oranges, and much more. They were all ready to be harvested. My mother says the best time for harvesting fruits is early in the morning. After morning, the birds come and peck on them. After that, they are no longer any good. I guess I should introduce myself. I apologize for not doing so earlier. My name is Esta. Esta means, "shining star". Even though I don't literally shine like a star, my eyes do. My mother decided to name me that. I'm 17 and I live in the Lothringia, a rich and beautiful country. The sad thing is, even though I look beautiful, I'm not considered beautiful. Back to the story, I walked to the only well in the city. "You stay right there, Blaze." I tell my fox. Blaze sits and begins scratching himself. Yes, he is very finicky. To avoid getting diseases, you have to get a bucket of clear water. The bucket will get rid of the diseases the fruits and vegetables may carry. After getting enough water, I walk over to the apple tree and set the bucket beside me. I began picking the apples off the tree. Blaze ran around the tree, chasing a fly. "Oh, Blaze, mother is going to love these apples! They are so red and juicy!" I said to him, almost convincing myself to take a bite out of it. But, I continue harvesting, investigating each and every apple. After getting enough apples, I run across the bridge, making sure Blaze is behind me. I walk in the huge house. The house is beautiful! It's elegant with matching decorations all over it. I love standing right here in this very spot and taking a look at it. Sadly, this house is not mine. Yes, I live in the house, but not on this floor. Rich people always get the first floor. In case of any emergency, they will be the first one to exit while the poor ones, such as my mother, Blaze, and I, are at risk. I reluctantly climb up the wooden spiral stairs, Blaze running towards my mother who is sitting on the brownish-golden couch. "Mother, I'm here!" I greeted. "Hi, mother!" I said walking over to here. Mother gives me a bright smile as she looks at me. "I got the bucket of water and thirty-two apples just as you requested, mother." I explained to her. Mother stands up. "Very good, my dear," Mother starts out. "Be home just in time for dinner. Watch out for Blaze. One mistake from him, and he will be put to death. Talk to no one you know and if someone approaches you and you do not know them, go straight home!" Mother commands me.

Mother is over-protective of me, but I understand why. Two years before I was born, mother had her first daughter. She was everything mother wanted her to be, but she wasn't happy with it. Mother took her free-will away, which caused her daughter to push away. It took over her so much that she ran away and never came back. Ever since, mother allows me to do what I wish.
"Yes, mother," I reply. Before I leave, mother pulls me into a tight hug. "I love you, Esta." Mommy tells me. "I love you, too. Good-bye." I fare-welled. "I'll be in the market place, okay?" Mother says. I nodded and walked down stairs to the rich floor, Blaze in front of me. I walked past the Meri's Flower shop, the family that allowed my mother and I to live in her house. Ms. Meri loves flowers, as well as her spoiled daughter. I take a glance at the flowers sitting outside. The flowers are gorgeous, which lure's guests to come in. I carried a book in my hand, heading towards Professor Hoddesky's library. I walked up to the library door. "Blaze, stay here. I'll ask Professor Hoddesky if you are allowed to come in, okay?" I commanded Blaze. Blaze got comfortable in the summer grass. I opened the door. "Professor Hoddesky? Professor Hoddesky? Are you here?" I asked. I could hear someone clearing their throat. "Hello, Esta!" Professor Hoddesky greeted. "Hello, Professor! How are you?" I asked him with a bright smile and a wave. "I'm doing quite fine, my dear. Come in, come, come!" he replied. "Thank you," I said stepping in the library. "Is Blaze the Fox allowed to come in?" I asked his permission. Professor Hoddesky chuckled. "Of course he is, my child." he said. "Thanks," I said. "C'mon, Blaze. Professor Hoddesky says you can come in. Just don't chew on anything." I said, giving Blaze a stroke. Blaze barked and roamed around the library. I walked over to Professor Hoddesky. "How has your day been? Any big plans today?" Professor Hoddesky asked. "Nothing really, Professor. Just doing my early morning chores and calming down the citizens of Lothringia. They get so scared when they see Blaze." I replied. Professor Hoddesky chuckled. "Well, what brings ya' here?" he asked. I walked over to the fantasy shelf. "I came to return the book I borrowed two weeks ago and I was hoping I would be able to get another book." I said, placing "Sleeping Beauty" in it's correct place. "Go on and find another book, my girl. The top shelf has all the new books that arrived yesterday." he said. "Thank you, Professor Hoddesky!" I exclaimed. I placed my foot on the second shelf, making myself the same height as the book shelf itself! I grabbed "Rapunzel". "This is the one!" I said. "Rapunzel? My granddaughter said that was the best book she ever read! I'm glad you made a fine choice." Professor Hoddesky said. Professor Hoddesky is probably my third best friend. He actually calls me a "child" instead of a "thing". I went over to the table and sat down, opening the book. Blaze came and sat in a chair not to very far from me. I scanned over the pages, looking at the illustrations. I then closed the book. "Alright, this is the book, Professor Hoddesky!" I said walking up to his counter. Professor Hoddesky opened to the first blank page, placing a black circle in it. This meant this book is to be returned. "Thanks, Professor Hoddesky. I better go see if I have some additional chores. Goodbye!" I said waving. Professor Hoddesky waved at me goodbye and started reading again. As Blaze and I walked out, I saw mother by a market stand, just like she said she would be. I walked over to her to greet her. "Hi, mother. How is the market going? Any good deals?" I asked her. Mother smiled. "We have done fairly. What did you do in the library?" Mother asked. "I got a new book. Remember the German tale, "Rapunzel"?" I asked her. She investigated the book. "Yes, I read this to your oldest sister one time." she said handing it back to me. I tried to change the subject about my sister. "Do I have any additional chores?" I asked. "Nope, go on home, Esta." Mother said. I kissed her cheek and ran off, Blaze trying to catch up with me. Blaze and I continued walking to our house. "Oh, Blaze, I can't wait to read my new book!" I told Blaze. I looked behind myself but Blaze wasn't there! "Blaze?!" I exclaimed. I looked in front of myself. I was relieved but not for long. Blaze was running full speed towards something. Where was he going? Oh no! He's headed for Ms. Meri's shop! "Blaze, no! Blaze, come back!" I called, but Blaze kept running. I forgot he was crazy about flowers. I dropped my book, allowing my hands to pick up my dress so I could run more faster without the fear of tripping and falling over. As I was approaching the store, I could hear faint gasps and screams. "Oh no!" I thought. The door was already held open so I proceeded to enter, but I was too late. Blaze was already chewing on a plant! Shredding it to pieces, as if it was growing back into a seed. "No, no, no! Stop it, you bad monster! My plant is being destroyed!" Ms. Meri cried out as she began pulling strips of her hair out of her head. This is Ms. Meri. She is the richest woman I've ever known. She allowed us to move into her house, as long as we kept Blaze under control. She's kind, I guess, but she rather have her die than have her flower shop go out of business. To me, that brings our her selfishness of her own pleasure. I wish she would change her decision.

"Grab a knife, Urla!" Ms. Meri called.
"No, don't kill Blaze!" I screamed, placing my hands in front even though that action had no effect. I looked a Blaze, tears welling up. "So, it's your fault!" yelled Ms. Meri's spoiled daughter, her eyes full of anger. Urla, Ms. Meri's spoiled daughter. I believe it is acceptable to call her a spoiled daughter. She is rude, not as generous as my mother, and is always calling me an "ugly thing". This is the reason I'm not beautiful. Because everyone is more darker than me. Therefore, they consider me foreign and they say go back to my land. Lothringia is my land though. She has always been more beautiful than me, and will continue on forever more. Urla than came running over, and pushed me. Luckily, my body was able to gain balance, causing me not to fall. "Why don't you go to land where you belong, foreigner?!" Urla hissed as she began laughing. "You and that stupid and ugly monster! He has destroyed one of my mother's favorite plants!" she hissed again. "His name is Blaze!" I hissed back. "And you can't blame Blaze for destroying your mother's plant! You allowed the door to be opened! Why don't you go to the library and study cause and effect?!" I replied back to her. I may be ugly, but I have a way with words. "How dare you talk to my daughter like that! You and your monster thing can leave my flower shop at once!" Ms. Meri yelled. Urla grew a smirk on her face as I commanded Blaze to follow me. Blaze and I left the store quickly. Blaze had his tail behind his legs. I can not believe Ms. Meri frightened him! No one ever gets Blaze to put his tail between his legs! "Hurry, Blaze!" I called to him. He was just now getting on the stairs to cross the bridge. Blaze loses energy when he is frightned. Oh, I hope Blaze will not get banned. My heart is pounding as sweat falls down my eyebrow. Blaze and I quickly head for the wooden spiral stairs, skipping the daily routine of staying and scoping across Ms. Meri's floor. I run into my room, closing the red curtains and tying them together with a yellow knot. I then sit on my bed. "Oh, Blaze, that was close." I said to him as he collapses on the floor, panting heavily. Blaze is alright, he didn't really collapse. He's just in his position of playing dead. Minutes later, the sun comes down and the moon goes up. "I cannot believe your daughter, Ms. Johnson!" I hear downstairs. Oh no! Could Ms. Meri possibly be telling my mother she is going to ban Blaze and the rest of the foxes from the country?! I untie the yellow knot connecting my curtain door and stand by the stairs, eavesdropping.
"Your daughter and her monster will be severely punished, Ms. Johnson! She should have kept that thing on a rope! She also yelled at my daughter! Rude and irresponsible!" Ms. Meri yells. I am not irresponsible, I had every right to yell at Urla.
"I am so sorry about your plants and about my daughter, Ms. Meri. Esta and I will plant a new garden for you out front for all time so recover your broken heart, Ms. Meri. Thank you ever to much for giving us this house, Ms. Meri. May this be the way to say sorry and to say thank you." Mother offered, with a sincere and sympathetic voice. Mother was doing this for Blaze and I. She is so generous. I could tell Ms. Meri grew a smile on her face. "Very well, Ms. Johnson. I accept your offer." she says. Anything about garden, plants, and flowers, Ms. Meri will take that offer. And with that, Ms. Meri and Urla walked off to their room. I ran back to my room, tying the yellow knot again and turned towards Blaze. "Blaze, I am sorry about you getting scared but you must not go around and destroy flowers! You'll get banned. For now, just stay calm okay?" I told Blaze. His ears lowered. Animals can tell when a humans are sad. If you are sad, they are sad. "Oh, Blaze, I just don't know what will become of us if something does happen... I just don't know." I said as tears strolled down my cheeks. That's the end of "Forbidden Friend" for now.
