Chapitre 3 : Dangereuses rencontres
Whereas Ilan has been thinking for several minutes, he suddenly found the solution.
"The answer is : silence !" he declared sure to be right.
***
"It is indeed the good answer" the statue said . "Look behind you, here lies the way you must follow."
Behind Ilan, a brilliant golden light appeared, revealing a new passage through the forest.
***
Without hesitation, Ilan followed the way which already started to lose its luminosity. Again, he walked for several hours, then, as he started to feel tired, he found a quiet place to sleep, to regain some strengths.
***
The night was calm and in spite of the discomfort of his improvised bed, Ilan sleeped well. Awaked by the first rays of the sun, he took his road again, full of courage.
***
He soon arrived in front of a majestic bridge which spanned a small river. The landscape was pleasant and the danger seemed absent of this peaceful place.
***
Unsuspicious, he crossed the bridge and looked around to enjoy the landscape.
***
Arrived on other side, he however had the surprise to see a cat lying in the front of the steps. The cat seemed to wait for something.
***
When he saw Ilan approaching, the cat rose and started to speak.
"You must pay me a right-of-way" he said to Ilan. "If you refuse, prepare yourself to face me!"
***
"What?" Ilan exclaimed. "What is that ? A cat who can speak? It is a joke!"
***
"Quoi ?" s'exclama Ilan. "Quelle est cette histoire ? Un chat qui parle ? C'est une blague!"
Under the eyes of the young man, the cat started to change. A few seconds later, a strange creature was standing in front of Ilan.
***
"I don't know what you are", Ilan started "but I don't want to pay you. I do not wish to fight, but when it is needed, I am able to defend myself. So I ask you to let me pass."
***
"Oh really?" the creature half man-half cat replied "Do you think you can impress me, human ? But know that I don't fear you ! Give me
all your money and go back where you come from, if you wish to stay alive !"
***
"I refuse!" Ilan answered firmly.
"Very well!" the creature whispered. "Too bad for you !"
***
"Je refuses !" répondit fermement Ilan.
"Très bien !" murmura la créature. "Alors tant pis pour toi !"
With an amazing speed, he throwed his fist to Ilan's face who did not have the time to dodge the attack.
***
The creature went on attacking, but this time Ilan swiftly bent down to avoid the blow.
***
"So you really want to fight !" Ilan said, strongly determined to fight back. "I am your man!"
***
Suddlenly, the creature's behaviour changed.
"Oh, no ! Human ! " he mumbled. "I... I just wanted to frighten you! Do not strike me! I beg you!"
***
Then, they heard a strange voice that seemed to come from the sky.
"You are a coward !" the voice thundered. "I should never have given you this mission! You are a coward and an idiot! To punish you, I will transform you into a simple cat and you will remain this way until the end of your days!"
"No Master! Have mercy !" the creature screamed.
***
Under the eyes of Ilan, the creature became a cat again, lied down and felt asleep at once. There was no other sound from the sky and during one moment, Ilan wondered if he had not dreamed all this. However the cat was here in front of him.
***
Deciding that it was best for him to leave, Ilan took the stone path again and walked away from the bridge and the cat.
***
During several hours, he walked through the forest. Sometimes the vegetation was blocking the way and the small road of stone couldn't be seen for several meters.
***
At the end of the day, as he started to be tired, Ilan heard a series of worrying noises behind him.
***
As he was turning back, he suddenly saw a spectre appearing in front of him. The creature was partially transparent and was shining with an unreal bluish light.
***
Soon, Ilan was surrounded by several spectres which were approaching with obvious quarrelsome intentions.
***
A strange bluish ray suddenly bursted out from the ground and submerged Ilan.
***
Surrounded by the ray, Ilan felt his strength leave him, while the spectres started an unholy dance around him.
***
Pulling together the strength he still had, Ilan decided that the best solution would be to flee. He started to run away as fast as possible from the spectres.
***
He kept on running until he became out of breath. The bluish light was not there any more and the spectres had not followed him.
***
Completely exhausted, he found a quiet place and felt down. Whereas the sky was becoming black, he dropped off to sleep.
***
At the same time, in the blood's house, Horrora was worried.
"I wonder where is Ilan." she whispered. "I hope nothing serious happened to him."
"You are able to know this" Kitty said smiling."Use your meditation courses. Concentrate and you will be able to learn what happened to Ilan."
***
"Yes," Horrora replied. "You are right Kitty. I can feel his presence. He is sleeping, everything seems fine."
***
The following day when Ilan awoke, his first thoughts came to Horrora.
"What a curious feeling !" he thought. "I remember having dreamed of her. However, I hardly know her."
***
Gathering his courage, he rose and again, started his walk through the forest.
***
After a few hours of walk, he noticed a sinister building at the end of the stone road.
***
"I remember that Kitty told me about this place" Ilan thought while approaching the door. "If I am right, I'm probably not far away from my goal!"
***
He entered a strange room which had no window. The only door here was the one he had used to enter. A gargoyle was the only decoration of this place.
***
Intrigued, Ilan came closer, wondering what was he supposed to do now ! Remembering the statue in the forest which had spoken to him, he started to talk to the gargoyle.
***
"Hello!" he said. "My name is Ilan and I'm here to find the crimson Ayalaeth."
"Hello Ilan." the gargoyle answered. "I was waiting for you. To fulfill your mission, you must answer my riddle."
***
"A man walks up to you and says - "everything I say to you is a lie." Is he telling you the truth or is he lying? " the gargoyle asked. "I will open a door if you give me the right answer."
Dear readers, Ilan still needs you. Could you help him ?
***

    Another riddle? Hm?

Let's see, everything I tell you is a lie.

The gargoyle tells Ilan that it never tells the truth but in this case it does which means that it lies about always lying. Thus the gargoyle is lying.

    Terrific story!

The gragoyle is lying because he says everything he tells him is a lie. Or maybe he's telling the truth because if he was lying then that means it would be the truth but he would still be lying then and-
    Oh, my brain hurts.

These chapters just get better and better! Thanks for all your hard work. As for the riddle it has to be a lie otherwise it contradicts itself, you can of course have some statements that are lies and this is one of them! So it's a lie \:D Can't wait to read more\:rah\:

If he was lying then that part would be true, so the statement would be false. \:confused\: If he was telling the truth, then that part would be a lie, so he'd be lying. \:confused\: Wait... now I've got and confused myself. \:P - Diamond
