Broken Strings
by Thello29
Madeline was sitting alone in the kitchen. It was late. The floor was cold, and so was her heart. All she felt was guilt and remorse, but she knew it was unfair.
Memories flew in front of her.
She was in love. In love with a man she should have never felt anything for. Michael, her psychologist, was the only person she could talk to about her problems. They would spend hours just talking to eachoter. And Michael listened to her every word. "I'm telling you, its like he doesen't even care how I feel. He's so distant sometimes..." she told him. "Maybe he's got a lot of work to do and he can't be in two places at the same time." Michael said,
trying to change Madeline's perspective on the situation.
Madeline looked outside, thought the window. She felt so calm and understood when she was with Michael. "You're strong! You will make it though!" "He's been cheating on me for months, and I have to pretend he's loyal!" "Maybe he doesen't appreciate the wonderful woman he's got right next to him!" Michael leaned down and kissed her. She responded, holding him close to her. She was in love for Michael, but still the strings of her life were pulling her back.
Madeline loved cooking, because it relaxed her.
Tonight she decided she'd waid for Andrew with freshly cooked food, so she made Carbonara. "I'm doing the right thing!" Madeline said to herself as she was waiting for Andrew to come home. She held him in her arms and realised one thing: she could lie to herself about how much she loved him, but her heart wouldn't let her feel anything. "So how was work today?" Madeline asked her husband. "It was overwhelming, but I survived. I'm quite just about to close a contract for another franchise!"
"That's great news"
Andrew couldn't help notice that his wife was sad.
"Is something wrong, my dear?"
"There is something I've wanted to tell you for a while..."
"I'm listening!" he said as he smiled.
"Andrew, I want us to divorce." she said plainly, looking into his eyes.
Andrew couldn't belive that this was happening.
"Are you unhapy? You have a big house, you have succes, you have money! What's wrong with you?"
"I'm not talking about money, Andrew!" she said.
"You're seeing someone else, right?" Andrew asked without blinking.
"I'm sick of you cheating on me, and then making me feel like it's my fault. I'm sick of you, Andrew!" Madeline screamed.
"If that's the way you feel, right now, I can't be the one to stop you!"
Madeline went to her bedroom and packed a few things in a small bag.
"Goodbye, Andrew!"
As she left her home, Madeline knew she would never return. She had to be strong. As he drove on the highway, she felt free of herself. She felt truly relieved. She needed to go home, to the place she always knew as home. Cezara oppened the door.
"Mom, I came back home!" Madeline said.
