Hi! My name's Marah Gonston. I just moved here to Pleasantview from a small town called Redburg.
I decided to head out to another place. I wanted to go see the Woodland Park. Let's get out of here, and fast. Wow, this place is gorgeous! There's even a lake with tons of fish in it! Too bad fishing was never really my thing. I walked down the path, wondering what else was in this park. In the clearning was a small cook-out area with a grill. As I was looking around the area, a lady offered to shake my hand.
"Hello." She said.
I shook her hand. "Hi!" "My name's Marylena." The lady said. "What's yours?"
"Marah." I replied. "Marah Gonston."
Marylena paused for a moment, as if pondering something.
"I haven't seen you around before. Are you new to the area?"
I nodded. This must be one of those places where everyone sort of knows everyone else. "It was nice meeting you, but I have to go." Marylena said rather quickly. And with that, she turned and walked away.
"Bye, it was nice mee-" I stopped as I realized she wouldn't be able to hear me. She must be busy, or something. Wow, I thought. This is going great. Yep, I've already made tons of friends today... not. Just as I was thinking this, I heard a kind voice greeting me. "Hello Marah, long time no see."
I gasped as I observed the figure standing before me. "Mrs. Green!? I haven't seen you in forever! What are you doing here?"
"Let's sit down, and I'll explain everything." I was still shocked to see Mrs. Green, especially in a place like this.
Mrs. Green was the adoptive mother of my best friend from school. We lost contact after highschool, and it had been about 4 years since then. Mrs. Green was almost always busy doing something and never left the house.
"Marah, I'm sure you realize that you've grown up now. That means Jim has grown up, too." "Jim and I... we haven't seen each other in ages." I interrupted.
"I know." Mrs. Green replied. "That's why I'm here now."
Silence filled the air between us for a moment. Was I supposed to know why she was here... ?
Mrs. Green laughed. "Do you understand what I'm saying, Marah? Jim wants to see you again." "... Jim wants to see me again?" I repeated.
"Yes, that's right, and he's here in town visiting his parents. They live here too. He has missed you terribly ever since you both graduated and went your separate ways."
I was a little suprised by this fact. To me, it seemed like the last couple of years we spent as friends, Jim lost interest in me.
"In fact," Mrs. Green continured, "you could see him today, if you'd like to. How does dinner sound?" "Sounds great!" I replied. "What time, and where?"
"We were planning on going to Speedy's on 25 today at around 5, would that be okay for you?"
"Of course, I'll meet you there."
Mrs. Green smiled. "Thanks, Marah. Jim will be so happy. I'll see you later."
And with that, Mrs. Green slowly began to walk away. As did I... in deep thought. I had responded without thinking. Why would Jim suddenly want to start talking again? Was there something he wanted? Perhaps... no. Perhaps I'm just over thinking this WAY too much. One thing's for sure: I needed to get home and get ready to go. I had about two hours to kill until it was time to go meet Jim. I walked in the front door to find my burnt mistake there, waiting for me. Lovely. For some odd reason, I felt the need to change my outfit. I wasn't dressing fancy or anything - no. I straightened up my hair and fair. There, perfect. It's not like this place is going to be formal, or something. Look at the time. It didn't take me that long to get home and get ready. What am I going to do until 5? I know, I'll just lay down and take a little nap. That'll definitely make the time go faster. I hate waiting. It makes me so anxious. *Yawn* Wow, I'm more tired than I thought... ...4 hours later... *Snore* ...
