When we last left, Ralph and Lovely had just agreed to go out on a date with one another. That Ralph sure does work fast!
She'd gone to City Hall in hopes of talking some sort of sense into the warped brain of Mayor Alto, however after the vile woman confessed to having an influence over Lovely being passed over for a promotion, Lovely seemingly flipped. She'd call the woman several horrible names, and even slapped her. She was still feeling a stinging sensation in her hand from the powerful contact.
And just when she thought the night had ended on a somber note, Ralph bumped into her and they chatted for hours. She had to admit, upon seeing him, she was instantly attracted to his rugged good looks, and confident stance. Yet she was unsure of how things would go between them.
Across the park, Ralph searched for the beautiful woman he'd met yesterday. Willing himself to play it cool when he saw her. Trying his best to feign a smile, Ralph approached Lovely, however his mind was preoccupied instead with the gruesome details surrounding Ms. Kennedy's death.
Ms. Kennedy had been his babysitter when both his mother and father worked long hours during the day and night. She was more than a family friend. The gentle old woman had become a 2nd mother to him. And when his own family died in a tragic car accident after leaving a gig their band played, she had taken him in and raised him.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that instead of the woman dying of old age, she had been poisoned. He shook his head, scolding himself for thinking of her death and not focusing on the simply beautiful woman that was Lovely.
The couple decided to have a picnic in the park. The weather was once again as perfect as it had been the day before.
Sitting down with their picnic basket, Ralph and Lovely ate, while discussing any and every subject that came to mind.
"I know that you're still thinking about Ms. Kennedy's. If it makes any difference, I know that she was a sweet woman."
Ralph smile, nodding his head slightly. "That she was." He appreciated Lovely's kind words, and for some unexplained reason, he felt that he didn't have to hold back or play down the man that he was.
There was not one awkward moment during the conversation. The two of them instantly relaxed, feeling that- as the day progressed on- that they could trust one another.
Lovely gazed into Ralph's eyes and found herself being enveloped in a sea of amber warmth. He made the date go from weird, with them still being unsure of how to react to the other, to simply perfect by laughing at all of her jokes and sharing details of his life. He seemed genuinely interested in her, and for the 1st time in her life, Lovely understood and adored that feeling. "Have you ever been married?" Ralph asked, curiously.
Lovely shook her head. "No, I haven't. With school and then work, I never had the time to really take a break and try dating." She cleared her throat as the main reason for her and her mother's arguments took center stage. They had constantly battled over her devoting her life to medicine instead of her settling down and having a family of her own.
She shook the thoughts from her mind. "What about you?"
Ralph laughed, as if the question had been the punch line of an entertaining joke. "No, like you, I just didn't have the time." He offered her a small smile. "My goals have always been to be at the top of my career-whatever career that would be- before I settle down." "And now..." Lovely asked, as the couple sat down on the swings. Both allowing their inner child to momentarily take over.
He peered into her eyes, hoping to gauge her thoughts, yet he was unable to. "While I am not at the top of my career, I would love to begin dating and trying to get to know more people."
Lovely's heart fluttered as he Ralph spoke his words. She secretly hoped that she was one of the people he wanted to get to know. Ralph watched as Lovely analyzed his words, secretly hoping that she truly understood his words. After playing on the swings, Ralph asked Lovely to the movies.
"I can't believe you actually picked an action movie about saving a museum." Ralph said, laughing. How tries to take over a town by threatening to destroy the town's museum."
Lovely laughed, "I know! Maybe the museum had some secret that will be exposed in the sequell."
Ralph shook his head. "Sequel?!?! I truly hope they don't add on to it. This movie was the worse." His words faltered off, as he took her hands in his.
"I know that I just met you, but today has been the most fun I've had in years."
Lovely blushed uncontrollably. After walking across the street to the park, Ralph pulled Lovely into his arms, planting a long kiss on the same lips that haunted his dreams the night before.
Lovely melted against him, as his lips moved over hers. She would have never kissed on the first date, but knew that Ralph was different.
She also knew, as did he, that this wouldn't be the last time they would see each other.
