By Cerulean Talon on Oct 13, 2006 • Create a Grand Staircase

Make a Grand Staircase entrance (or a way to get to the second floor) of your mansion something spectacular. You can even change the wallpaper, steps and rails at any time on your staircase. **NOTE: STEP 7 SHOULD READ "EXACTLY 8 clicks".***

Step 1.

First, I like to flatten a lot. Medium or large would bebest since this is a Grand Staircase and would most likely be placed in or on amansion.

 Step 2.

Put 2 foundation squares (you can use either kind, I’vechosen the solid here) on the lot. For this tutorial I will be building thehouse behind it, so be careful where you choose to lay the initial foundation.

Step 3.

Now, raise the earth EXACTLY 4 clicks on each side of thefoundation in the exact same spot as shown.

Step 4.

Place a piece of foundation as shown, on each side of theraised earth.

Step 5.

It should look like this.

Step 6.

Flatten the earth with the leveling tool.

Step 7.

Turn your lot around to face the opposite direction andclick EXACTLY times to raise the earth on each side in the same spot as shown.

Step 8.

Place your foundations the same way you did the firsttwo.

Step 9.

It should look like this after flattening the groundagain.

Step 10.

Place a 2-square block of wall in the center of thetallest foundations.

Step 11.

Okay, now for the part that I had to practice at a coupledozen times.  Hold the ctrl button down and the left mouse button whiledragging from the lower foundation to the higher one. Let go of the ctrl thenquickly release and click the left mouse button.

Step 12.

It should look like this -- if it doesn’t work the firsttime try, try and try again until it does.

Step 13.

Do the same thing on the opposite side.

Step 14.

Rotate and do the same from front to back.

Step 15.

Do the other side the same way.

Step 16.

Now do both sides of the back, but attaching them to thewalls.

Step 17.

The stairwell should look like with all the piecesjoined. Remove the front 2 wall panels.

Step 18.

Choose a floor and stair.  Don’t worry, you are not stuckwith this choice, you can change it to anything at any time.

Step 19.

Place all the stairs as shown.

Step 20.

You can color the sides of your grand staircase with ANYwallpaper – this too can be changed at any time.

Step 21.

Place on extension of wall out from the existing wall.(You cannot build flush against the stairs.)

Step 22.

Build the walls of your house.

Step 23.

Add doors now or later

Step 24.

One of the coolest discoveries I made is that you can runany fence down the slopes – just like on sloped ground. This gives you a lot offreedom in your railing choices.

Step 25.

Design, decorate and enjoy.
