In as little as 7 steps you can build a beautiful basement of any size with walls that you can wallpaper and hang decorative items. (NO tricky cheats involved.)

Step 1.

Place a square of foundation anywhere on the lot near orinside where you want the basement to be.

Step 2.

Cover the foundation with any wallpaper that has aclearly visible baseboard. I like this one because the baseboard is white andeasy to see.

Step 3.

With the lowering tool, drop the ground exactly 12 clicks….

… or until you reach the bottom of the baseboard.

Step 4.

With the leveling tool flatten out whatever size or shapebasement you want.

I’m just using a rectangle for this tutorial, but you canbe very creative in design.

Step 5.

Delete the original foundation.  FYI, your finished 1st floor will be exactly on square larger than the basement.

Step 6.

Place the wall around the perimeter of your basement. I’dsuggest on your first try that you do not put the basement wall directly nextto the foundation piece, but if you do, not to worry because it is easy to fixby, after deleting the foundation piece, replacing the missing slice of wall.(FYI: to delete, Ctrl, drag, left click with foundation tool over thefoundation you want to delete.)

Step 7.

Now click and drag with your foundation tool all alongthe edge of your basement.

Sweet!  No more gaping slope.  You have completed thebasement which should look like this -- ready for building and decorating.<[:o)

Step 8.

… but you say you want the ability to enter it from theoutside and/or from the inside.  Click and drag with the leveling tool from inside the basement to level the ground to basement level.

Step 9.

Delete as many pieces of the foundation as you want foryour entry.

Voilá, an opening where you can add a door and evenwindows if you want.

Step 10.

Now let’s add any type stair you like and start yourbuilding and decorating.

You say you want to have a porch offthe foundation? Well, here you can see it is so easy.

I do fine through step 7. But when I try to add the foundation around the outside of the walls I get that "can't level terrain" message. Red build box, not green, and will not do the step.Thoughts?

Oh and I'm playing on the Sims 2, without any expansion packs.

I solved it. If anyone else experiences similar; go back and check how many levels you went down. I had gone down 11, seen the bottom of the baseboard, and stopped. When I'd tried 12 clicks, it looked too far below the baseboard. But it did need the extra click. So the foundation wasn't lining up right, that's why I got errors about terrain.

Thanks for the tutorial! I look forward to finishing this house. \:\)
