Overview.

The stairs you are about tomake are called Split Half Stairs.  These stairs begin with two connectingstairs going up half a story and another half stair meeting in the middle andgoing up another half story.

Step 1.

In step one, we will becreating a rectangle: 1x3.  We will be later adding the connecting stairs toether side of the rectangle.

Step 2.

Go up one story.  Find a tilethat you like and place it on the three squares directly above the rectangle. You will now need to place a border around the rectangle.  Start the border onetile square away from the rectangle.  This is the only side that will be onetile square away from the rectangle.  The other three sides will be two tilesquares away.

The side that is two tile squares away from the rectangleand parallel to the side one tile square away will be where the stairs will godown.

Step 3.

Hold down Ctrl+Shift+C for the building prompt toappear.  Type in the following command:

boolPropConstrainFloorElevation false

This will allow us to change the elevation of tileswithout any problems.

Step 4.

Go outside the house.  Atleast three or four tile squares from the house, make a diagonal wall in linewith the rectangle.  If your house has a foundation, add this wall on a singlesquare foundation.

Step 5.

Add two connecting stairsleading down to the diagonal wall.

Step 6.

This is where the command frombefore comes in.  Starting at the bottom level of the stairs, level the groundall the way past the wall you built.  If something happens to your wall afterthis, use the Undo and try again.

Step 7.

In this step, you will levelfrom the top of the wall you built all the way over to the last square in therectangle.  Do not be shocked by the outcome.

Step 8.

Now you will be levelingeverything around the rectangle.  Don’t level anything too close to therectangle or your wall will be uneven.

Step 9.

Go up one story and level theentire floor.

Step 10.

Now you can add your stairs going down to the center ofthe half story.  Feel free to add the railings to the stairs but DO NOT add anyrailings around the opening.

Step 11.

Now you can add two connectingstairs to ether side of the rectangle.  Add your railing to the stairs.  Younow can add the other railing around the opening above and the rectanglebelow.  Be sure you add tile inside the rectangle and add wallpaper to theinside and outside.

Step 12.

Hold down Ctrl+Shift+C for the building prompt toappear.  Type in the following command:

boolPropConstrainFloorElevation true

This will make it so the tile elevation doesn’t getaltered.

Step 13.

Don’t forget to delete the connecting stairs, the wall, and level the ground outside the house.

Congratulations!
