Building an attached garage onto a home with a foundation or basement makes most houses look more realistic. **Note: In step 5 you will be using the leveling tool to drag from the foundation to the farthest corner of the garage wall (see picture).

Building an attached garage onto a house with afoundation or basement can be frustrating. I will show you how to do it in afew easy steps.
You will need only one Cheat during this tutorial. I knowthat word sends chills through nearly everyone that has had a bad experience(or 10). I promise you, this will be relatively painless and you might justfind that you can have a lot of fun creating new spaces for your Sims. Remember, you can always click undo if something goes wrong.
I prefer a medium or large lot myself, but this will workon the larger of the small lots.
Build the basement (see my Basic Basement tutorial if youhaven’t done this before) or foundation allowing enough space on your lot foryour garage.
For those who like to deal with numbers, here are theminimum requirements for building a garage onto any lot:
5 x 8 = driveway
5 x 8 = driveway extension
1 x 0 = between house and drivewayextension
0 x 2 =outer-edge build-allowance for the length of garage (You can only build up to 2sq. from edge of lot)
2 x 0 =outer-edge build-allowance for the width of garage (You can only build up to 2sq. from edge of lot)
13x18 = total number of squaresnecessary for building a garage onto a house
…Or you can just do as I do and stick a driveway andextension down to judge where to put your house and garage.
BTW, this entire tutorial can be reversed (flipped) toplace a garage on the right side (instead of left) of your house. If you dothat you will need to allow an additional 7 squares on the right side of yourlot for the driveway entrance.
Another tip would be to save often. You don’t want tolose your work if something goes wrong.
Let’s get started.
Step 1.
I am making this garage a lot bigger than the normal onebecause I want plenty of space for a workshop in the back. You can make thegarage any size you want, just be sure to allow one square aroundbetween the house and the driveway extension piece(s) you are using.

Step 2.
Draw in all the walls on your main house. Add 1 or moredriveway extension pieces. Draw walls to surround the garage stopping 1 shortof the actual house’s foundation.

Step 3.
Press and click Shift, Ctrl, C to open the dialogue box.Type in exactly: boolprop constrainfloorelevation false and clickenter. For those that are new at this don’t panic. You can always can clickthe “undo” button.
Step 4.
Now draw in that last piece of wall to attach front…

…and back. I know, this looks really weird, but it willbe simple to fix.

Step 5.
Click and hold left mouse button to drag from the back ofthe house’s foundation all the way to the farthest corner grid on the frontright side of the garage.

Step 6.
Release mouse button and the walls will be even with yourmain house’s foundation. You’re almost done and are now ready for the next andfinal 3 steps that will turn this into a functioning garage.

Step 7.
Draw a 2nd level of wall above your new fakefoundation. Note that the wall is even with your 1st floor.

Step 8.
Delete the 5 wall squares along the driveway in front ofthe garage.

Step 9.
Re-draw the wall back in. It looks like one of thosefalse fronts from an old western town.

Step 10.
Click the left mouse button and drag it across the top ofthe garage (left to right, right to left, it doesn’t matter) to the oppositefront corner of the grid.

Step 11.
That’s it; you now have a garage built onto a house witha basement (or foundation). Let’s turn off the cheat before we do anythingelse. Press and click Shift, Ctrl, C to open the dialogue box. Type in exactly:boolprop constrainfloorelevation true and click enter.

All that is left is to add the garage door and steps tothe house’s interior. Build. Decorate. Have fun!

Buidling an attached garage on a raised foundation house seemed like such a simple thing until I tried to do it about a million times and failed. It nearly drove me crazy but now I feel confident that I can do this and still keep my sanity. Thank you!!
