I threw my work clothes in the washer as Izzy sat down in a chair close to me.

"Hey," she said.

"What's up?"
"Oh, nothing. Well, it is something. I mean, it's always something. If it were nothing, it would literally be nothing, but it's not nothing, because essentially nothing doesn't exist.."

"Izzy!" I interrupted. "Just spit it out."
"Okay, fine. I was hoping that maybe... we could go out tonight. Like, a girls night out. I've been so stressed from school work, I really need this. If I have to do one more paper on how different acute and obtuse triangles are, I think my head will explode!"

"You're doing it again," I interrupted once more. She always talks a lot when she's nervous. It's been a habit since high school, when she got her first boyfriend. "Yeah, sure. I have class here in an hour and work later, but I'll have time."
"Oh, thank God!" she screamed.

I closed the lid of the washer, and turned it on high.
"This is going to be perfect! I can't wait!" She squealed.

"Just a few ground rules," I said.

"Anything."

"No flirting with guys, Caine wouldn't like that. Do not drink too much, you get weird when you drink too much. And no, and I mean NO, dancing on the bar. Last time, you went a little too far."

"Done, done and done! I'm so glad you said yes! Ah, I'm so excited!" She squealed, again, as she pulled me in tightly for a hug. I laughed and tried to catch my breath.

"This occasion calls for a new dress. I'm off to go shopping! Wanna come with?"

"I have plenty of clothes, Iz. I'll see you tonight."
"Simmer down, class. I have some big news."

"I wonder what it will be?" I heard a girl behind me whisper.

"It's probably that he just got his first hair on his chest," a guy joked.

"You're a complete idiot, he's all man," another girl snickered.

I just ignored everything and looked straight ahead. If there was one thing I knew since being in this class, it's that you do not want to get on Professor's bad side.
"I recently met with another Professor, who suggested that, for our big project for this class, that we research one famous philosopher and tell what they did to make the world a better place."

There were moans in the background.

"Now, now. I didn't actually agree to it. I decided to add my own spin on it," he smiled, "for this classes project, I have decided that, with a partner, you will describe the importance of someone in history. The twist is, that you have to research someone who was born in your home town."

"What if no one was born in our hometown?"

"There will be. I checked before I went any further as to deciding. Three or four of you will be researching the same person, but that is what makes it all so exciting."

"Now, go ahead, choose your partner. If you do not have a partner by the end of the class, I will choose them for you. I wouldn't want this to be like high school, when you got someone you didn't like, so choose wisely."
I looked over at Cody. "Do you want to be partners?" "Sure," he said, "you're the only one I know in here. Plus, you are pretty and smart."

I laughed.
"Well, who do you want to do the project on, then?"

"A woman. Preferably," he winked.

"Okay, a woman in Riverblossom Hills. Or we can do someone in your home town, if that's better for you."
"Riverblossom Hills is fine. My family lives there," he replied.

He searched on his computer, while I searched on mine.

"Okay. Sonia Defberson came up with Riverblossom Hills. It says here, that she discovered it when she was sailing in her boat. She decided to name it "Riverblossom" because she was in the river, go figure, and there were Cherry Blossom trees surrounding the land. Hills because it was in the country."

"She sounds like a winner," he said.

"Then it's decided. We'll do our project on Sonia Defberson," I stated.

"Awesome, can't wait."
"Wow, this place is packed, tonight," Izzy said, looking around.

"Yeah, it sure looks it."

She sat down on the bar stool next to me.

"Remember, only one or two drinks. Don't go overboard," I reminded her.
"I won't," she replied with a shake of her hand, "bartender, two over here!"

We waited as the bartender mixed our drinks.

"Hey there, gorgeous," I heard a man's voice say.

I looked back. "Oh, here we go again." I mumbled.
"How about you let me buy you a drink, for old time sake? Maybe I can take you out, too," he winked.

Every time we come to this bar, Cyrus always hits on Izzy. I'm used to guys hitting on her, but he doesn't just do it once or twice, he never gets the picture.

"Cyrus, she has a boyfriend."

"So? That ain't stopping her from being oh-so-hot, so it ain't stopping me from wanting to buy her a drink. Or two"
Izzy turned over to the bartender. "Those two drinks, he'll be paying for," she smiled.

"Now, I didn't say I'd buy her a drink!" he whined.

"No, but you said you'd buy me a drink 'or two.' I'm going to give her one of my drinks," she exclaimed. "Oh, and make those two the most expensive drinks you have here."

Cyrus walked off without saying anything else. He might have mumbled something, but I didn't catch what it was.
"Here you two go," the bartender said.

"To Cyrus, the man who's so obsessed with you he bought your best friend a drink," I joked.

"To Cyrus!" Izzy said, lifting her glass to her mouth.

"So, what do you think of my dress?" she asked.

"I think you look divine," I replied, with a smile.

"Why, thank you! And it only cost me half of my grant from last semester."

"Whoa, Izzy that's 600 dollars. Don't you need that for when you get out of college? To, you know, rent an apartment or buy a house?"

She gulped down her drink and ordered another, cheaper, one.

"It'll be fine, I have a plan," she said.
"A plan. What exactly is this plan?"

"All will be revealed, at the end of the night," she exclaimed. "Well, maybe not all." She gulped down this drink, and ordered another.

"Izzy, I said one or two drinks," I warned.

"Yeah, well one more won't hurt!" She said. The bartender handed her the drink. She got up out of her stool and jugged it down.

"Let's go dance!" she screamed.
"I love this song!" Izzy screamed, while dancing to the beat.

I smiled and danced along. "It is a great song," I said.

"What?"

"I said it's a great song!" I said, louder.

"What?" she screamed.

"I said-never mind, lets just keep dancing!"

"Oh, okay!"
I laughed and danced along to the lyrics. Well, I swayed to the music. I've never been able to full out 'dance' in public. It's just always been too embarrassing for me.

I looked around me. Everyone else was dancing crazy.

If they can do it, why can't I? I thought.

Their dancing is much more embarrassing than mine ever would be. I started to feel the music inside of me. I danced instead of swayed.

"Woo! Yeah!" Izzy screamed.
Izzy and I danced through four or five more songs before she had to use the bathroom. After she got out of the bathroom, she grabbed my arm and ran straight to the photo booth. "You can't go to a club and not get your photo taken! It's like, not allowed."

I laughed at her logic. "Alright, alright."
"That was so much fun!" She yelled, running out of the photo booth.

"Alright, I think it's time that we go back to the dorm. You've obviously had too much to drink.."
"Okay, but first. My plan."

"You know, that when you're in a Greek House, or as some people call them, Sororities, you get more money?"

"Izzy... No."
"Come on, Mia! Just hear me out, okay?"

I nodded.

"Okay. Like I was saying, you get more money when you're a member of a Greek House. I mean, at our college you do, anyway. I don't know about other colleges, but at this college you do. Which I think is really cool and beneficial, for me, anyway."

"Izzy..."

"Okay, okay. My point is, I want you to join a Sorority with me," she said, really fast.

"No," I said just as fast.
"Come on! It'll be fun, I promise. We'll get free things, and, meet lots of new people."

"I think you're forgetting the fact that Paisley Gilbert is in the only girls' Sorority on Campus."

"So? She seems like she's changed since High School. I mean, ever since we started college two years ago she's been nothing but nice. Maybe she's turned a new leaf?"

"Maybe she has, but I'm still not joining," I stated, ready to turn my heel to walk outside.

"Mia!" she whined. "Please? When was the last time I ever asked you to do something for me?"

"Hm, I don't know, this morning?!"

She shook her head. "That doesn't count!" She sang, "Please?"

I exhaled a few times. "Fine. I'm not saying I'll join, but I'll go to the pledging thing this weekend. Happy?"
"Ecstatic!"

"Izzy? Do me a favor?"

"What?"

"Don't go out and buy a 600 dollar dress for this, too."

She laughed, "I won't."
We walked up to the door of the Greek House, with Izzy smiling the biggest smile I've ever seen.

"This is going to be so much fun!" She squealed.
When we walked in, Paisley walked up to us in her Toga dress. "Mia, Isabella! Welcome!"

"Hello, Paisley. Nice house!" Izzy said.
"Thank you. I personally wanted something bigger, but the U said they couldn't afford much for us. We're obvi not as important as putting in a new park down the street from the Quad center," she rambled. "Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time here. There are free drinks and food."

"Thank you, Paisley," Izzy smiled.

Paisley walked away to go chat with a few other pledge hopefuls. "I told you she turned a new leaf."

I rolled my eyes. "If you say so. I'm still not buying it."
Izzy walked over to the coffee table to grab tall glass of something. "This looks good," she mumbled to herself.

"Izzy, we should probably not be drinking. We should be conversating with the members, if we really want to get in."

"Don't worry, Me, it's just juice. They can't actually serve you the stuff at the bar when it's not at a bar," she smiled.

I shook my head, I had no clue what that meant, but it was probably wrong.
"I'm going to go talk to the girls. Wish me luck!" Izzy said, walking off.

"Luck," I whispered.
I looked around. Not very many people were here, there must have been more people earlier. We were a bit late, after all.

I looked over at Izzy, who was talking to Carmen and another girl who was part of the Sorority. Carmen looked a little interested, but the other girl looked bored. I wonder what she was saying...
"Mia?" I heard a voice say. I turned to see Baylee, Cody's sister.

"Hi, Baylee," I said, "I didn't know you were going to pledge."

"Well, I wasn't. But my mom told me I should, since she was a part of this Sorority when she was in college."

"Ah, a legacy. You'll definitely be getting in."

She blushed. "It's whatever, I only came because my mom told me to. I could care less whether I get in or not."

I could tell by the look on her face she was just saying that.
"So, you know my brother talks about you a lot. I can never get him to shut up about you. Ha, ha," she said.

I blushed, "He's a nice guy."

"He is. And judging by the way he talks about you like you're some sort of Angel from above, he's into you," she changed her face expression. "So don't hurt him."

"I didn't plan on it. He does know that I do have a boyfriend, though."

"He keeps saying that, for some reason. He says that he doesn't care. He can't help what he feels," she replied. "Oh, gosh. He told me not to say anything. This is probably weird, now."
"Not weird. I won't say anything to him. It'll be our little secret," I told her.

"Good. He would kill me if he found out I told you any of that. I have such a big mouth."

"It's okay, really." I said. I pointed to her. "And hey, your mouth isn't as big as mine. Back in high school I was fish lips."

"No frickin' way! Your lips are, like, perfect!" she said.

"Apparently, Paisley didn't think so."

"Wait, you went to school with Paisley?"

"Yes, we did go to school together." Paisley said, walking up to us.

Baylee noticed the tension, and backed up. "Okay. I'm going to go... Get a donut."

She mouthed bye to me before walking over to the table in the kitchen.
"Mia, I thought we talked about this."

"Not exactly. You never did apologize for demeaning me for my entire high school life."

"I didn't demean you," she sighed. "The truth is, I was jealous."
"You. Jealous? Of me?" I laughed. "You have got to be kidding me!"

"I'm not. You had everything. You had the best grades, the prettiest friends and the hottest boyfriend."

"Yeah, until you started calling me Fish Lips," I snapped.

"Now, I admit. I was a very mean person back then. But that was high school. Like, ions ago. If you really want me to apologize to you, I'm sorry. I just hope you can accept my, extremely sincere, apology."
I shook my head. "Why are you doing this?"

"Doing what? Trying to be your friend? I told you. I've always been jealous of you. I don't want that anymore," she said, smiling.
"I'll tell you what. If the other girls choose to accept you into the Sorority, I'll choose you as my little sis. That way we can get to know each other better."

I rolled my eyes. Still not buying her nice girl act, there is something off. She must be doing this for something. She has to be getting something out of it.

"Fine," I said.

"Good," she put her hand on my arm. "I really hope you get accepted. You definitely have my vote." She smiled and walked away, gathering the members.
"Okay, girls. It's time for you to leave, but I hope you all enjoyed it here," Paisley said. Carmen just sipped more of her (third?) drink and the other girl looked bored. That must just be how her face is, there is no way someone is bored that much. "That was fun," Izzy said, walking up behind me.

"Yeah," I agreed, subtly.

"I think I got it in the bag."

"Don't jinx it, Iz," I said. "Wanna go get some froyo?"

"You know it!"

We made our way out of the house, each of us wearing smiles bigger than when we entered.
"Alright girls, are we sure these are the girls for us?"

"It's not like we had much of a choice, anyway. You'd think, us being a sorority and all, people would actually want to join." Carmen said.

"It's good enough for me," Zella added.
"Then it's settled. These are our new Sorority pledges."
