Installing Tutorial Added!

Hi!

Well, you know that to install DD you put in the first disk, then the second and that installs The Sims and the Sims LL? Then you have to put in the HP disk and after that in order to play you have to put in the DD disks again so that it updates the installation. Then if you want to install HD and on Holiday you have to put the HD disk in and it asks for some files from DD so you put that in, it transfers some files and then ypu can put the HD disk back in and continue loading. However, if you then want to play you have to put the DD disks back in because that was released after HD and the only disk you need to play is disk1 of DD. It's the same thing for on Holiday. After that you just install UN, SS and MM in that order. Managed to get round some of that though. I checked my mate's computer last night, did a total wipe of all Sims files, first using the uninstaller and then wiping the rest manually. In the end I found that DD can be installed in this order and works fine:

1. Make sure there are no Sims files on the system. Uninstall using the uninstaller then go to search and wipe off the remaining files manually just to be sure. Windows has a font with Sims in the name so don't wipe that off too! We were left with three windows "sims" files that have nothing to do with the game.

2. Install Double deluxe. Place disk 1 in the computer, change it for disk 2 when requested, then place disk one back in the computer to finish the installation.

3. load in the extra content and patch from the bonus disk.

4. Place the HP disk in the computer and install.

5. Install HD, the computer will ask for some files from HP so you'll have to put that back in for a few seconds when the computer says to do so. Then you can continue with installing HD.

6. Install on Holiday. I can't remember whether we had to put in HD to transfer files or not, but I don't think so.

7. Now you will need to reinstall DD over the top of all the other installations. This is because (I think) DD was released after HP, HD an On Holiday and disk 1 of DD is the disk that is needed for playing. YOU WILL NOT NEED TO UNINSTALL ANYTHING UNLESS THERE ARE FILES ON THE SYSTEM FROM PREVIOUS INSTALLATIONS. If there are any extra file on the system then the computer thinks that the game is already installed (when it isn't) and won't play at all. That's where we got in a mess last time, though I did save the game data to disk so that we could put it in at a later date. If DD is not reinstalled then the later expansion packs insist that the Sims has not been installed at all.

9. Install Superstar

10. Install Makin' Magic

The game should now run. Hopefully!

...I'm not sure what you said exactly about the reinstalling part. As for FileCop, it detects bad walls, floors, skins, and sims exchange houses I believe, but not for objects. I suggest doing the moving the files out and putting them back in little at a time to see what is causing the problem.

Hello

I've been trying to follow the order as prescribed in your tutorial, but after Double Deluxe had loaded and I tried to install Hot Date and Vacation, well they installed, but then I had to reinstall Double Deluxe again just as you do after installing House Party. Is that right? Seems to be working okay for me, but not for a friend who's done the same. Can't work out why. Could you also tell me whether the file cop will recognise any of the corrupt files installed so it's possible or just run that instead of moving files manually off of the system?

Sorry if this seems a little basic. Very new to the Sims experience.
