The Blue Screen of Death
Believe it or not, on Friday the 13th my PC got hit by *dum dum duuum* thebluescreenofdeath! Aaargh! I coaxed it back to life, but it finally went belly-up after the weekend - and, you guessed it, just out of warranty :( You can imagine my dismay - 100 Gb of files in limbo! The horror! Not to mention a severed umbilical cord to the net! Luckily I have my laptop, but that poor thing can't take all the slack, so I had to find a solution. Thanks to some (other) nerdy friends who gave me the idea to get a HDD docking base and a pc taken back from the attic, I already recovered the data, but I'm still on slowtime. That attic pc only has a quarter of the memory of the old one (so no Sims3 playing on that one - boohooh!) and I immediately remembered why it went to the attic - it makes more noise than my Dyson! So now I'm left pondering - do I save for a totally new pc or do I upgrade the attic one with an extra fan and memory - if that's at all possible, it is after all already 6 years old, that's practically ancient :P
So now my TSR exploits are put to the back burner (pleh!) as I can't really try everything out properly which makes me grumpy, but hopefully we'll find a solution soon. Again, we'll keep you posted ;)
Guestbook update
Those I had problems accessing, I tried contacting again and look - Support was right! According to them it's a Safari/Chrome issue (they're working on solving it - which is a good thing, as I like Chrome a lot) which occasionally crops up. Swapping Chrome for FireFox indeed gave me access again to the hidden guestbooks - yaay :)
Right! Back to patterns now - I need to submit my batiks still and then maybe will do some more drawing. I could also have a look through old weaves/batik/bobbin lace my mum and I made ages ago - I like to use them for blankets, curtains and clothes. Transferring them from the actual cloth or paper to virtual sims patterns will be another thing though :P
We'll keep you posted :)
Errors in guestbooks
There's nothing as aggrevating as wanting to give someone a compliment in their guestbook and then getting an error page :P I've had quite a few like that >:( Usually I resort to writing them a personal message as I want them to know what I think of their work, but I would like the rest of TSR to know too I like it ;)
Checking the error messages, I always got this: error 325 (net::ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_TOO_BIG): unknown error - which is rather annoying as I haven't got the foggiest what it means.
Now I have to comb TSR to find out where I can report that *sigh*
I want to go exploring
So I have submitted my alter ego - she wil be able to go roaming other places, going there where I wil never be able to go. I just hope she won't get into trouble :D
I wonder what people will think of her outfits. There's been quite a few downloads of my picture for example, but not much feedback - maybe I should give less subtle hints that I want to know what people think of my stuff *ahem*. Well, everyone is an egotripper one way or another :P
My first pattern went out too. Not the one I used for the outfits, I need to track them down again, forgot what I called them - that holey cheese brain of me :D Where's my shovel?
Featured items
Figured out how to display my approved picture with an extra pod on here :) Reading tutorials and trying them out right, left and centre - this is almost as much fun as the game itself :D
Yaay - The picture's approved!
Now where the heck do I find it so I can show it off to people? There's loads to discover still about this site but slowly, slowly we'll get there. Tomorrow some more pattern work I think - or maybe I'll frame one of the Halloween pics we made this evening with the neighbours :D Even when we don't celebrate Halloween really here, the kids wanted to have some scary make-up and watch The Omen before having a sleepover. The parents (being my neighbour and I) were also made over and of course loads of pictures had to be made. Oh dear :D A few should be good enough to be made into scary family pics ;)
D'oh! Of course, if you haven't ticked the Sims3 tab, you won't see it in upcoming events - so that's what that one's for, that's one thing solved :) And it looks like it will be published tomorrow - I wonder how many people would like a black cat in their house :)
CHFS
Or Click-Happy-Finger Syndrome... That's what I suffer from now :P I'm trying out everything I can and sometimes things pop up out of no-where and then I'm left flabbergasted on how I did it or what I'm supposed to do with it :P
Like this upcoming events pod - how the heck do I put anything in it? Or would TSR itself put submitted, but not yet approved stuff in it? I'll just leave it there and watch it from afar, so as not have it blow up in my face :D
I did manage to post a screenshot and publish it too - having it shown to people who pass by here is a different kettle of fish - or would a pic work? Let's try that...
As you can see it's not very polished. The actual shot is here: http://www.thesimsresource.com/screenshots/details/id/102226/
I need to work on that part of my submissions too and then figure out how I'm going to add screenshots to packages for submission. Good grief - a lot of learning still has to be done, as the actual piece I wanted to show off is still rather small (my first custom made painting in the back ;))
Oh yes - of course you can leave comments and critics. That's how you learn things after all :)
Fingers crossed!
I've done it! I submitted my first 'work' to TSR. I found Vanilla Sim's excellent tutorial on how to make custom paintings with EA meshes - woohooh and in the meantime figured out how to link, now let's hope it's an allowed link :P - and made our cat into a fearsome picture of Celing Cat, looking down upon her minions from above. It came out rather well, even if I say so myself :D
Well, I submitted it and now I just have to wait until I get a message from the Powers Above. Haven't got a clue how long that will take, so I hope I can refrain myself from hitting F5 every other minute ;)
Made it TSRAA too - I wonder how many homes will have our cat in it soon :D
TMI!!
Too Much Information indeed - not the way my daughters mean when they exclaim this (it's a parent's duty to embarrass their teenage offspring, what?) - but my poor head is spinning after all the info I find here while I'm trying to get all the different programs sorted to create new stuff. I have an 'aha-erlebnis' every other moment :D. I discovered by browsing the forums that my Sim hadn't grown big hips overnight, but that something's screwy with the meshes, so my maxi skirt doesn't make her bum fat after all. http://forums.thesimsresource.com/showthread.php?p=3864121
And what I would really like is find a very clean-cut rule-of-thumb of what can and what can't be done with linking and uploading - I've seen so many do's and don'ts I don't know my front from my back :P I just hope the link to the forum page above is allowed as the link icon is greyed out :S
*waves*
Alright! I'm starting to find my way around this interesting site!
Just can't believe I didn't know about it before and me being such a Sims freak! Not being able to start collecting expansion packs for the Sims3 - and finding the official Store rather pricey - I was moaning to a friend and she pointed me this way. A new world opens before me - not to forget new toys to play with - I'm wrestling myself through all the tutorials for the TSR workshop and hanger-on programs - one day I hope to be able to upload my own stuff too :D
*off to do some more exploring*
