The Andretti Legacy
Chapter 89

The Andretti Legacy
Chapter 89
The sun was rising quickly, and Logan knew he needed to eat the Ambrosia before the townspeople saw him. Can you imagine? A ghost in Central Park eating breakfast!? That would certainly make things a lot more complicated.

He takes a seat at the picnic table just a few feet from the grill he used to cook the meal on. The smile on his face feels permanent and the smell of the dish is absolutely divine.
Logan takes a deep breath and stares out across the park. He exhales that same breath heavily.

"This is it..." He says softly. "Good luck, Logan." He tells himself as he takes a fork from the picnic basket next to him.
He takes a small bite, and he finds that Ambrosia is the absolute best thing he's ever eaten. He takes a few more bites quickly as the sun is slowly coming up over the beach. Shortly after devouring half of the delicious meal, Logan's chest begins burning. His throat and mouth are on fire and he drops the fork and begins choking on the burning sensation. He looks down at his plate, gasping for air, and he questions if he's done the right thing. No one told him it would be this painful. Logan falls back off the bench in a frenzy, fighting to breath past the burning sensation. As the sun lightens the park, Logan starts screaming and he is lifted on the ground by some unnatural force. Within an instant, all the pain stops, and he remains floating in the air. As if the sparkles and stars he were seeing were water, as they land on his body they soothe the pain and burning. Then, a bright flash of light surrounds him and he feels alive, at ease, he feels real. He is gently placed back on the ground and as he opens his eyes, he looks down at his hands.

"Oh...wow..." Logan cries out in excitement.
He brings his hands to his face, and feels substance and texture. It's a bit scary to him at first, but there's no time to be frightened. He runs as fast as he possibly can to Lizzi's house. He reaches the door, and rings the bell frantically three, four, maybe seven times. "...yes, can I help you?" She asks with a polite smile.

"Lizzi, it's me...Logan!" Logan shouts with an enormous smile.
"Logan...you're...you...are...Logan, you're human?" Lizzi tries to process him standing there before her.

"I know...I know!" He laughs. "Isn't it great!" He grabs her shoulders and then lets go and jumps around in a circle for a few seconds. "This is...wow, this is awesome!"
"Logan...how did you..." Lizzi asks and then looks away from him.

"It doesn't matter...I'm here. I'm human. I did this for you, Lizzi!" He grins ear to ear.

"...for me? Why would you...what have you done?" She directly at him with the absolute most confusion possible.
"...you don't like it?" Logan's smile quickly fades, and suddenly he's embarrassed. "I was hoping you'd be a little more excited." His voice trails off. "...I thought that...well, I thought I'd have a better chance competing with that guy if I were human."

"Competeing...?" Lizzi asks quietly.

"...I want to do whatever is possible to make you happy. I want you to be with me, Lizzi." Logan struggles to get his feelings out.
"...you do make me happy, Logan. You really do." Lizzi stares into his crystal colored eyes. "I am just...trying to fathom how you are standing here...right here...like that." She looks him head to toe.

"...I'm human, Lizzi. For you. I have been so busy working with this...other ghost...in the cemetery. She told me to cook a dish called Ambrosia, and it'd make me human. I did it...and it worked! So, here I am...ready to...well, take on the world!" He grins again, he can't contain his excitement.

"Another ghost...? In the cemetery? ...you made a deal with someone, didn't you?!" Lizzi's heart breaks. "Logan...you didn't have to--"
"I had to, Lizzi." Logan replies quietly. "I had to...I wanted you to love me...and I will do whatever it takes..."

"Logan, I would have loved you either way...I just needed you to go, so I would know just how much I did." Lizzi's eyes begin to tear up, and suddenly Logan regrets the Ambrosia.
"Lizzi...tell me that you still love me." He takes her hands in his, and squeezes them gently. She stares back at him as a tear rolls down her cheek. "I do...I really, really do." She leans forward and kisses him, and she feels as though a huge burden has been lifted off her shoulders.

Logan, what have you done? I fear for what may lay ahead for him now that ... but aside from that, this was as always a great chapter, can't wait to read more!

Amazing is an understatement of descirbing the Andretti Legacy. I don't think there is a possible word to describe its goodness. Hopefully the promise that Logan made will not be too horrible although he should have listened. The Andretti line is hard headed as always. I can barely contain my excitement. What could possibly be next?\:D
