Hey guys...

I'm taking a break from When All Is Said and Done- so I've decided to write this short story. It'll have about five chapters and each chapter will progress from either day to day or week to week; basically the chapters will be relatively close in time. This chapter, well intro, is about four chapters ahead of where I'll be starting the first chapter. Confusing, I know, but basically this chapter will be coming up soon in the future :)
Enjoy~~

I stood facing it. It was merely just a simple object, square and with four legs. The lighting reflected off the white, smooth surface and gave it a glowing effect. The painting on the wall behind it seemed calm and peaceful, unlike the horrid room I stood in. The room itself was not that bad. It had nice walls painted with a baby blue-ish tint. The wall baseboards and crown molding brought out the detail in the floor, and, well, the room came together very nicely. There was no reason for me to hate it, yet then again, I had the right to hate it. I began to think to myself.
"You have to do it, Charlie. You can do it, I know you can. Come on, it's a simple task. Sit down. Open the letter. And read."
The task was not hard at all, but it took a lot of self confidence and trust. Yet I was doubtful and scared. I was no where near confident or trustful in myself, or trustful in him...
But why should I trust him? After all, he was the reason I was here.
I shook the thoughts away and made my way over to the desk. There it sat, the letter that would change my life forevermore.
"Open the drawer. I gave you the key, 'member? It'll slide right it, then find your letter, and open it. You'd better read it, Charlie. There will serious consequences if you don't...." I could remember his words perfectly.
I walked away from the desk. I never thought that opening a letter would cause me so much trouble and confusion, but like the multiple times before, I was wrong.
I didn't know who to hate. Should I hate myself for the countless times I'd messed up? For all the stupid things I'd done? For getting involved in something that would haunt me until the end? Should I hate myself simply for living? I was terribly puzzled.
I knew that before I had been ignorant...and idiotic and foolish and cocky but I couldn't be the complete blame...could I?
"No, no," I told myself. I was not the one to blame. I was easily seduced into his silly game...easily trapped in his lies...easily used...
I was blind at first and I couldn't see the harm he was doing, but now that my eyes were wide open, I knew how stupid I had been.
I sighed, "Get it over with, Charlie."
Deciding that I deserved a few more minutes before I completely ruined my life, I sat on the white couch across the room. White; everything in this room was white! Since he was a man of such filth, and low class, and just an evil person, I began to guess that he made his office white in order to make himself feel more pure.
"Maybe he feels less guilty for all the tragedies he's caused when he's around white..." I said to myself. I laughed because the idea was quite stupid and the man just liked the color white, nothing more. I found myself finding any possible way to postpone reading the letter. But I knew it had to be done.
I found the guts to pull the office chair forward.
I started breathing deeply, " Here I go..." I whispered.
I had waited for this moment ever since I'd left the association.. The association that brought me here to this very desk. I still couldn't fathom how stupid I had been and I regretted every second I spent in that group and every second I spent working with that monster.
I sat down in the hard, wooden chair. I didn't want to look at his desk, it made me sick. Knowing what kind of dirty business had been done here, I wanted to get the letter and go. I looked down at my trembling arm.
"Why was I so stupid..?" I felt tears coming on, but how can a person like me cry? Someone whose own stupidity led them to this point, and someone who willingly manipulated others for a bad cause...People like that just don't cry.
"Okay you're here, Charlie. It's the moment we've all been waiting for..."
I bent over to open the drawer. He was right, the key did fit perfectly and the lock was easily opened. My trembling hand pulled the drawer open. On top of a pile of messy files I found my letter. How could you miss it? Bright white over a dull shade of the yellow portfolios. My trembling fingers ripped the seal off and inside I found a crumbled, old paper. I finished taking it completely out and read the heading...
"To My Dearest Charlie,"

Wow, you really know how to grab an audience - I simply have to read the story now to find out what was in that letter! Brilliant way of giving us background and building suspense without actually giving any of the story away, just a few hints as to what we might find out - loved it.
