Things have been very unstable for our family. Abigail is still in the hospital. The experts have been unable to identify the cause of her sleep state. My parents found out later that any kinda of medicine used to wake her up could result in death. They opted not to try it. We all hung on to faith that she would wake up soon. It has been 2 months since that day.
I go to her room often to find peace. Mother places fresh flowers by her bed every day.
But on this particular day I saw what appeared to be a book tucked underneath her bed. Odd that I never noticed it before.
I wasn't going to read it or anything. My intention was to just put it away. Not realizing what kind of book it was. Once I picked it up, I saw my name across the top.

Things have happened in my life. I feel as though I need to make up for things. Guilt is pressing heavy on my shoulders. I lost some very important papers my father had entrusted me with. All I had to do was deliver them to City hall. I couldn't even manage that. He was very angry in the beginning up until the police officer came. I know he didn't forget, he just pushed it back, way back, in his mind.
Anyway I never meant to read Abigail's book. I laid down on her bed was only going to read... ummm maybe the first paragraph or two.
What captivated me was the first line I read.

*The day is warm and calm, unlike the sadness buried deep within the heart of Adeline. Life sometimes takes a cruel and unjust turn and we never really know why these things happen, but you are apt to think there has to be a reason...isn't there?*

"Hey Sis, what cha doin'?" Joesph said as he came though the door.
"Hey Joe, you need to see this. I think Abigail was in the middle of writing a book."
He moved closer to me. I had trouble putting the book down. The next line was even more captivating.

*She looks out onto the sun's reflection on the ripples in the water. Ripples go on till they are blocked by the edge of the pool, but do they end? Are they not bounced back to return whence they came?*

Is she writing about me? I whispered to myself. Through the muddle of my thoughts Joe's voice broke in. "Adeline, can we talk?"

Putting the book away I stood. Even dealing with my own troubles of heartache and sadness. I felt so bad for Joesph.

"Adeline, I should have never left. I let my ego and hatred of father at the time get in the way of what meant the most to me.
"I know how much I must have hurt Abigail by leaving. Not once did I even try to call. I'm afraid now it's too late. I wish I could go back and do it differently. Matter of fact I know I would, if I could." "Joesph, please don't do this to yourself. You know she loves you, no matter what. You know that, right, you have to believe that." "They say that she can still hear you if you talk to her."

"Sis, you know, your right I can do that and I can talk to her and tell her all the things I've wanted to for a long time. You sure she'll hear me?"
"I am sure of it." "Adeline, thanks sis. I have missed you more than you know. I promise I'll never leave you again. I will stay here with you and by Abigail side. Thank you for this. I love you. I'm going to see Abigail right away."

With tears in my eyes. Oh it was good to have my brother back. "Hey Joe Joe, I love you back."
I needed to talk to Dad. But as I approached his office I heard him loudly say into the phone "I TOLD YOU NOT TO CALL ME!" "I"LL FIND THAT PACKAGE."
He was gritting his teeth. I knew that voice all too well. I had no idea who he was talking to. I stepped into the room.
It seem the moment I stepped in he hung up the phone and turned on me like I was his worst enemy.

"WHAT DO YOU WANT!" He screamed at me.
"Dad...I...I just wanted to talk. But now I can't remember what I wanted to talk about."
"I'm sorry to have bothered you." "Nevermind, I'll be in my room if you should need me."

I didn't know what was bother him but something wasn't right with him. He has been really angry and tense all the time now. It seemed ever since I lost that package. That stupid package.

Back in my room. I couldn't help myself. I pulled out Abigail's book and began to read once more. The following page left me speechless there are no words on this earth that could explain what I was experiencing.

*Feeling tired she retreats to her bedroom. The room once shared with the love of her life. She walks through her lovely home. Children's laughter, an echo in her mind.*

*We sometimes wonder the cause and effect of our decisions. Adeline has no regrets nor does she carry any grudges. She never has. Full of life and love. I wonder how she could ever forgive me for the things I had done.*

Yes, she was telling a story about me. Could she see the future? Did she know what was to come. I couldn't put it down. I read on and on.
The following pages I read

*I am Abigail, though you can't see me and nor can she. I will take you on the paths of our lives. Through the shame and humiliation to forgiveness and love. Through growth and mending of hearts. I now take you back...back in a place where children lived and grew.*

I realized I was holding my breath. I let out long slow breath, my heart was beating, I could hear it thumping in my ears.
Why can I not see her? I read on. I came to the 2nd chapter and there I read about Madeleine and Gabriel how Abigail had set that up. I remember that day as if it were yesterday. I felt so hurt by that and was taken by such surprise. I can look back on it now and know it's alright. I knew they liked one another. Now I understood and could come to terms with it and truly forgive both Madeleine and Gabriel.

I read to the very end and the last paragraph she wrote left me with more questions. How could she do this to me? Why would she hide the package from me when she knew how important is was to father. Now the relief came flooding in and the guilt began to lift. It wasn't me after all.
I had to go see Gabriel. Maybe he knew what file she was talking about. The very last sentence in her book was *I must get to Adeline. She must know*

Know what...Abigail, what are you trying to tell me....

Wow! I so did not see that coming ... excellent plot twist there, Barb, it looks as if Abigail has found a way to undo some of the damage she did before the accident - but is it enough? Will the package be found? Will she ever wake or will she continue in this state forever? Soooooo many questions and now I have to wait until the next chapter!
