Just as I was about to cry he leaned up to one knee and pulled out a little black box and opened it up. Inside was the absolute most beautiful ring I had seen in my entire life, the kind of ring you dreamed about as a little girl.

“Dani, I know that we have known each other only a little over a year and we have only been dating for a brief period, but from the moment I saw your beautiful face from across the beach I vowed to myself that you were the one and only woman for me. I have never felt for another, what I have come to feel for you and my feelings grow stronger every day, I can only hope that you feel the same for me and make me the happiest and luckiest man on earth by becoming my wife.” he said to me as he gazed into my eyes.

I stood there momentarily beside myself, as if I was dreaming or having an out of body experience, I could have sworn he was going to let me down easy, and here he is proposing to me, this couldn’t be real I had to be dreaming.
I wanted to scream “YES, YES, YES, ARI I WILL MARRY YOU!! But I couldn’t speak I just stood there in utter shock, he took the ring out of the box and held it up, still I was unable to speak, the only thing I could do was hold my hand out for him to put the ring on. I watched, still silent as he placed the ring on my finger. The butterflies were fluttering happily, my knees were weak, and I was sobbing ever so happily.

“Dani, I meant every word that I spoke, no woman has ever gotten so deep into my heart as you have, no woman has ever drawn so much inspiration out of me as you have, and no woman has ever made me as happy as the day you walked into my life.” He said to me.

I still could not find the means to speak; I had begun to wonder if his proposal had caused me to become a mute.
I must have looked at it a hundred times, trying to make sure it was real, when I realized Ari was still on his knees waiting for an answer, I was still unable to speak and I gawked at it a bit more as I shook my head up and down. He then stood up and threw his arms open.

“So am I going to get an answer or are you going to just stare at it all night?” he said to me.

“We don’t have to get married right away if that is what you are worried about, we still have plenty of time, I just want you know that you are the only one for me.” He added.

And honestly I could have just stood here and stared at it all night, I was not only in shock and disbelief, I was also completely and unbelievably happy.
I threw myself into Ari’s arms and whispered into his ear.

“Of course I will marry you Ari. I may not show it as much as I should perhaps, but I am absolutely crazy about you.” I said softly.
And there we stood under the stars in a passionate and endearing lip lock for quite some time. After we pried our lips away from one another we sat on one of the benches in the gazebo.

“You looked so sad before, what were you thinking?” he asked me as he turned to me and pushed a lock of hair out of my face.

“I thought you were going to dump me.” I said. I didn’t realize how silly it seemed until I said it out loud.

“What on earth…” he replied.

“Well you were acting funny and then when you brought me here and said something about me resenting and regretting what you were going to do…” I said as he cut me off.
“I was extremely nervous, I had discussed it with my parents and they were overjoyed at the thought, but weren’t exactly sure with all the trouble you have had lately if you were willing to take on such a new beginning to your life, and that made me more nervous than I already was, they told me to try to keep it simple so I wouldn’t scare you off, and well I was afraid that you might regret or even resent not having the perfect marriage proposal.” He explained.

“It couldn’t have been more perfect.” I said to him.

“You brought me back to the very place we first met and proposed that Ari is the most wonderful and romantic thing anyone has ever done for me.” I added.
“Oh, really now and how many romantic encounters might you have had?” he asked playfully. The question made me slightly uncomfortable but I answered nonetheless.

“Just a few, most of them being with you.” I said to him.

“And I know I might be out of line if I asked but I have to ask, for my own curiosities, I wouldn’t think any less of you, but have you been with another man, you know…” he said as his sentence trailed off.

“No, Ari I haven’t, I was raised with the same morals and values as you, I know that doesn’t mean much to a lot of people these days, and there is nothing wrong with that, to each their own, but it means something to me.” I replied. He just sat there silent and smiled at me.
He then stood up and took me into his arms.

“I would love nothing more than to stay here with you all night, but it is getting late and I should be getting you home.” He said to me.

“It’s ok tomorrow is another day.” I replied. We walked back to his truck, his arms snuggly around my waste, and my head on his shoulder. He dropped me off at my house and kissed me goodnight.
I went straight to my room and did a happy dance in circles until I became so dizzy I no longer could stand, I sat down to compose myself and then changed back into my pajamas. I propped a pillow up and lay in my bed; though I knew I wasn’t going to be able to sleep I tried anyway. I just couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear, or looking down at the ring and I couldn’t help wondering that maybe this was all just a dream and that once I awoke, the ring would not be there and neither would Ari. I laughed at how silly I sounded to myself. Eventually I drifted off to sleep. I awoke the next morning refreshed or at least I thought I was when I seen Ari’s truck in the driveway, maybe I was still dreaming, I looked down at my hand, ring was still there, I looked at the clock just after 7. Maybe my mind was playing tricks on me. When I emerged from the bedroom there stood Ari in front of the dining table.

“Breakfast milady.” He said.

“Wow, you broke into my house to make me breakfast, how sweet!” I said as I laughed.
We sat and ate together, it was fairly quiet except for the sounds of chewing and silverware clinking off of our plates and the occasional ‘I love you’ Ari gave. I was smiling inside and out, it was truly a wonderful ending of an old life, and a beginning to a new one. I could get used to breakfasts with Ari every morning. Strolls on the beach late at night, and I couldn’t wait until the wedding, I figured we would save for a year or two, after all we still are young. “I have some news, good and bad, which would you like first?” Ari abruptly spoke after we had finished breakfast.

“Bad, always bad first, so that the good news cushions the blow.” I replied.

“Ok, well I know I just got back in all, but I have been invited to a high profile art show in Egypt and they want me to leave tomorrow.” He said. I raised my eyebrow at him.

“And the good news would be?” I asked hesitantly.
“They have agreed to give me an extra ticket under the condition that I create a sculpture while I am there for the show, and I would like you to come with me.” He said.

“Egypt! Really?” I said half excitedly and half inquisitively.

“Yes really, think of it as more of a vacation, no work, no worries a few art showings and the rest of the time we are free to explore.” He said to me.

“So what do you say?” he asked me with a pleading look on his face.
“I say we are going to Egypt!” I screamed as I leapt into his arms. “We are going to have to go shopping.” He said to me.

“Shopping?” I asked.

“Well we are going to need appropriate attire after all, I know a great site on the web where we can get a few things.” He replied.
I huddled over him as we surfed the web to find a some new outfits.

“How about something like this.” He said. I nodded in approval.

“And of course don’t forget to bring an evening gown for the art show, it’s a formal event.” He added.

“I think I’ll go shopping at that new boutique up the road, they had some really lovely dresses there.” I said to him.

“Ok, everything is all ordered, I got over night shipping so they will be here first thing in the morning, our flight leaves in the afternoon.” He said to me.

I hurried myself and got dressed, and kissed him on the cheek and headed to the boutique to pick up an evening gown.
The next afternoon after our new clothes had arrived, I quickly got dressed and threw my hair up, and finished up my packing. Ari told me to try to pack light but two weeks in Egypt seemed like an awful long time to pack light.

I heard Ari pull into the driveway as I tried to stuff the rest of my clothes in my suitcase, I was caught in one of those moments you always see in the movies, where the woman sits on her suitcase and tries to zip it up, realizing now that packing light was nearly impossible I scrambled to find another suitcase.

“You almost done packing Dani don’t want to be late for our flight.” I could hear him call as he entered the house.

“Yes almost done be out in a minute.” I called back to him.
I drug the rest of my suitcases outside as quickly as I could.

“You sure you have everything?” Ari asked. I nodded.

“Sure you don’t want to bring the kitchen sink too?” he added sarcastically. I gave him a playful punch in the arm as we loaded the suitcases in the truck. I guess our ideas of packing light were completely different I easily had twice as much luggage as him, if not more.
When we arrived in Egypt, before heading to the hotel we stopped off to get a rental vehicle. When we got to the hotel, there was some kind of mix up and they had double booked our suite, apparently this art show that Ari told me about was a lot bigger than I had initially thought, there were so many tourists here I couldn’t believe it, so in return we got a nice little rental home just outside of Al Simhara.

When we arrived at the house Ari scooped me out of the SUV and kissed me warmly.

“We are going to have a great time!” he said excitedly. I nodded as I buried my face into his shoulder gently kissing it.
“Last one in the house is a rotten egg!” I exclaimed as I jumped out of his arms and dashed towards the house. “I totally beat you!” I said cheerfully.

“That’s only because I let you win.” He replied sourly. We both joined in with laughter.

“Ari this place is amazing.” I said as I looked around. It had such a raw and earthy feel to it, it was beautiful.
“Not as amazing as you are though.” He said to me as he put his arms around my waist and yanked me towards him; he pressed his body against mine and I could feel my own body begin to tremble at the feel of his touch. He looked into my eyes briefly before pressing his lips against mine, this kiss was soft and tender, yet was passionate at the same time. Our bodies pressed closer together and I could barely breathe at this moment, but at the same time I didn’t care. The desert air was almost unbearably hot, but at least it was a dry hot. I drew my hand upwards and wiped the salty beads of sweat from my forehead and took a swig out of my canteen as we brought up the last of our luggage. I let out a small sigh before turning to Ari.

“There’s only one bedroom here, maybe we can swap between sharing the bed and couch every other night, so you don’t get stuck on the couch the entire time we are here.” I said to him.

“It’s ok, I don’t mind sleeping on the couch.” He tried to reassure me. I raised an eyebrow to him and flashed him a sarcastic smile, letting him know that I didn’t believe him.

“Two weeks of sleeping on a couch and you will be walking like an old man. You take the couch tonight and I’ll take it tomorrow night.” I said to him.

“It’s ok really.” He said to me.

“This is no longer up for discussion. It’s settled.” I said to him flashing him a smile.
We sat down on the couch to relax after spending nearly an hour putting our things away. It took him ten minutes tops; on the other hand I’m the one who needed the hour. We engaged in idle chit chat as he put his arm around me and pulled me in close. My heart began to race again, as I felt his arm bush my shoulder before he leaned it gently into place, thinking of our kiss downstairs, and how I really longed for him to be that close to me again. I snapped out of it as I heard him speak.

“So what did you want to do today?” he asked me.

“Hmm, maybe we could go get a bite to eat, I’m starving after that flight, despite what some people say a bottle of water and a small bag of peanuts isn’t enough to fill a lady.” I said gazing into his eyes my thoughts instantly going back to the kiss downstairs.

“But first…” I added as I let my sentence trail

“But first what?” he asked.
I didn’t answer him; I just pulled him close and pressed my lips against his with a firm but tender force, there was no resistance from either of us, no second thought as to whether the passion igniting between us, was crossing the fine line we had both drawn. And the way I was feeling at this very moment I could care less if we hadn’t moved from this spot for the remainder of the next 2 weeks. Suddenly our passion was broken by a loud rumbling.

“What on earth was that?” Ari said looking around. I let out a small nervous and embarrassed giggle.

“That was my stomach.” I replied.

“You weren’t kidding when you said you were starving.” He said to me. For a brief moment I looked down at my stomach and thought ‘thanks a lot for ruining the greatest kiss of my life’. I hadn’t realized I unintentionally said it out loud until Ari put his head down to my stomach and said ‘yeah thanks a lot’ too. I blushed.

“Well when you and your stomach get everything all worked out, I’ll be in the truck waiting for you two.” He said kissing me on the forehead. I blushed, I wasn’t completely embarrassed though, as I had come accustomed to making a fool out of myself in front of Ari, and he had come accustomed to enjoying every moment of it and letting me know.
We had dinner at a small quiet café at the market place and chatted amongst each other for an hour or two.

“So what are you going to do your art piece on?” I asked him.

“I still haven’t thought about that yet, going to need some real Egyptian inspiration for this one.” He replied.

“I would like to do something with an Egyptian flair but I also want to bring a piece of my lifestyle to it at the same time.” He added.

“Sounds interesting, so why don’t we have a walk around and see if we can draw up some inspiration for you.” I said to him.
Ari had drawn some inspiration for a painting while we were out and hurried home to put that memory to canvas, while he was painting I stepped outside on to the patio to admire the breathtaking views. And breathtaking they were how many people can honestly say they can step out on to their balcony and get a perfect view of The Sphinx? I’m sure not many at all. It drew some inspiration out of me as well as I ran and grabbed my camera. I hadn’t even noticed the views of the pyramids until I looked the other way, I ran downstairs camera in hand to get a better look at them. As Ari was finishing up his painting I readied myself for a shower I couldn’t climb into bed feeling so dirty, my skin was rough and dry and had a small layer of dust on it from the blowing sands. When I finished my shower I headed upstairs and noticed Ari lying on the bed.

“Come here.” He said gently patting the bed. I froze. I could tell he knew I gotten the wrong impression by the expression on his face.

“No, come here you have to see this view, its spectacular.” He said pointing out the patio doors. I noticed that he had drawn the curtains away from the doorways and I inched myself closer to the bed and propped up a pillow to lean against.
He was right, the view was amazing, as I looked to the horizon, you could see the stars playing peekaboo between the mountain tops, it was simply stunning. And quite romantic as well. I snuggled up closer to Ari and laid my head on his shoulder as I watched the stars twinkle off and on in the distance. He slid his arm around me and pulled me in closer and entwined his fingers with mine. He kissed me, his lips just barely brushing my cheek; it sent a shiver right down my spine. I’m not sure if it was the change in the air or the moonlight, or just the simple fact that every moment I spent with Ari I fell more in love with him, but I found myself unable to keep my eyes off of him, or my hands, or my lips for that matter. Before I could even react we had engaged in another steamy lip lock.

So this must be the honeymoon phase everyone always talks about, I was at that point in our relationship where the fireworks had begun to go off full force, I felt as if I was floating in midair on a cloud looking down at the world which looked so vibrant and alive, the colors, the smells, the warm breezes on my bare skin it all seemed so magical to me. And of course I am not that naive to believe it would always be like this, so I decided to relish every moment of it, to soak it in and allow it to envelop me.
I pulled Ari closer, our lips never missing a beat, I could feel him gently inch me backwards pulling his body on top of mine, the whole world had seemed to have stopped at that moment, I could only hear the sounds of our hearts racing, back dropped by the brisk breeze that had picked up outside carrying the sounds of the night along with it.
