Welcome to the second part of Amber. If you haven't read the first part of this, please do so. There was a slight typo on the last part. Amber only has six brothers and sisters. Not seven. Welcome to the second part of Amber. If you haven't read the first part of this, please do so. There was a slight typo on the last part. Amber only has six brothers and sisters. Not seven. Just thought I'd point that out. Now, last time, Amber Young found out she was pregnant only months after moving to college with her high school sweetheart, Trevor Patter. After talking to Trevor's twin sister, Lana, Amber decided to tell him about the situation... I heard Lana walk down the hall toward me.
"Still not back yet?" she asked, sounding as concerned as possible when your half-awake.
I sighed. "No. He's been gone so long. What time is it?"
"Um," in my peripheral vision, I saw Lana craning her neck around to spot the clock on the wall. "About three in the morning."
I turned to face her. "He said he was just going for a walk to think. It's been five hours. Do you know where he could have went?" "Hmm, I can't say I do, but I'm sure he's just walking around. You can't expect him to act too casual after what you told him." "Oh, Lana," I sighed, my shoulders raising and falling, "What am I going to do? I can't do this without him. I'm not that strong." "What are you talking about? All your life you've helped your mom raise your brothers and sisters! You've been preparing for this moment even if you weren't meaning to. I'm sure you'll be a great mom. With or without Trevor. And just remember: whatever his decision is, I'll always be here for you. We're practically sisters and that's my niece or nephew in there. I'm not going to make you go through this alone." I quickly pulled her into a tight hug. "Oh, thank you, Lana. You always did know what to say."
"No problem." She pulled back. "I'm going to go back to sleep. If you need me to, I can stay with you tonight if you don't want to sleep alone...I mean, if he doesn't come back. But I'm sure he will."
I half-smiled. "No, that's okay. You have class tomorrow. Don't worry about me."
"You sure?"
"Of course. Now, go hit the hay."
She chuckled. "Okay. Good night, then."
She turned and started walking back to her room.
I turned back to the window and started worrying. Was he coming back? If he does, will he stay with me? Will he be there for the baby?
I gasped. What if something happened to him? What if he was mugged or hit by a car?
Slowly, unsure, I stepped outside and looked around, all over the front yard of the dorm. Spotting a shadow on the ground, I quickly walked down the steps and toward it. "Trevor?" My voice shaky as I called him.
He sat up, without looking at me, and rose to his feet.
He turned toward me and put one hand on my waist. I smiled, quickly putting my arms around his neck.
"So, are you okay...with this? The whole situation?"
He pulled me close. "Of course. Amber, I love you. I've never lied to you about it."
"What about the baby? College?" I whispered.
"So...we unexpectedly skipped a step. That's okay. We can manage. College is just so we get ready for jobs in the real world. But I'm ready. I'm ready to take care of you. To take care of the baby. We can do this."
My stomach started doing back flips. "You don't know how happy I am to hear that." He pulled me onto the grass, looking up at the stars. "Hey, if you want, since we're dropping out anyways, we can skip class and go look for a place back home tomorrow. Do a little shopping for the baby while we're at it." "You are the best fiance--no, the best man on the face of the earth. How was I so lucky to find you?" He smiled and kissed me. We continued to watch the stars in eachothers arms. There was a whole world out there, just waiting for us. We said good-bye to college and Lana and moved to an apartment building back home in Cambridge. Trevor picked out the perfect two-bedroom-one-bathroom apartment, with plenty of space. Once we were settled in, we got right to work on looking for jobs and learning all we needed to know about them. Trevor surprised me when we first moved in. He put together the whole nursery while I was still back at college packing up our things. I nearly cried. It was perfect. And I could see Trevor was hoping for a boy, but he said he would be happy either way. "You know," Trevor said, not looking up from his book, "spying on the neighbors is considered creepy."
"Yeah, well, so is watching people sleep, but you still do it." We both laughed. "Anyways, I'm not looking at the neighbors. I was actually looking at this squirel...and checking in on my family."
He set his book on the couch and walked across the room. "You can see their house from here?"
"Yeah. Your family. My family. Just making sure everythings oka--" Something catches my attention, making me stop talking.
I shot back from the telescope. "Ugh!"
He became serious. "What? What's wrong?"
"Uh, I saw my mom's...latest boyfriend...through her bedroom window."
He laughed. "Really? Let me see." He started reaching for the scope playfully.
I swatted at his hand. "No," I chuckled, then sighed. "Great. She's going to probably have another kid. If she hasn't already."
He pulled me away from the window to the couch puting his arm around me. I couldn't help but smile. "So," he began, "when exactly was the last time you spoke to anyone in your family?" I started to turn away but he pulled me onto his lap, making me giggle. "Come on, Amber. Seriously? When was the last time you talk to your Mom? Or Brandi? Or Brandon? Chad? Don't you want to see Daisy and Dapne and Elliot?"
"Well, of course, but...I'm just afraid I'll get sucked back in."
He hugged me. "I won't let that happen. I promise."
"Really?"
"Yes. Besides, things are different now. We are different."
"Hey," I laughed. "I just realized you and your sister have something else in common."
"Yeah? What's that?"
"You both know just what to say to make everything alright."
"That's why I love you," I said, feeling a warmth in my heart and stomach. "Oh, good. I was starting to wonder," he joked. I laughed, nibbling at his neck.
"Okay! Okay! Stop it!" he laughed.
I jumped off his lap, smiling mischeviously. "You know...we have this apartment ALL to ourselves. Whatever shall we do?" Before he could say anything, there was a knock at the door.
We both groaned.
"I got it," Trevor sighed, jumping to his feet and pulling the door open.
"Mom?"
"Hi, Trevor. My, you've grown so much over the past year."
"Um, come on in."
She stepped in and hugged him. "It's so good to see you. It's been so long. I've missed you and your sister."
"I've missed you, too."
I quietly walked toward them.
"You know you should have at least called. It's been months. Millie's been asking about you."
"Funny," I said. "Trevor was just harrassing me about calling my mom."
Ginger turned to look at me.
"Oh! Amber! Hello!" She pulled into a motherly hug. "You sure have grown, too."
"Thanks...um, I'm sure Trevor's told you about..."
She pulled back. "About what? I found out about you two moving back through Lana, who called me yesterday night. Trevor hasn't said a thing to me."
Trevor sighed. "Mom I think you should sit down. We have something to tell you."
Her face became grim. "Oh, well, I actually have to tell you something, too."
So we told her about how I was pregnant and that's why we moved back. She seemed surprisingly calm about the whole thing. "Well...this complicates things..." she whispered.
"What do you mean, Mom?"
Her face darkened as she looked up at Trevor.
"Trevor, Amber,...I'm dying."
Thanks for reading the second part of Amber. Hope you liked it. Part three is on it's way :)
