Christine woke up early in order to be in time at Daria's place, before Dorinne woke up. She was a bit anxious, but she was already thinking of the things she could buy: a toy for the baby, food, and maybe... It was a crazy dream for her, but she wanted a sewing machine. She knew she could make clothes and other things and sell them. She could even make a living of it, if she worked hard enough.

She did the best that morning and did not leave aside even the worse spots. When she was over, Daria was impressed...
After giving Christine her cheque for the day, Daria added:
'We also have a present for you.'
Christine was taken by surprise. She took the box with trembling hands.
'We thought a young, pretty widow and her baby need to be safer than you are now.'
A low yelping came from the box. Christine opened it with a hurry... and she got licked all over the face. The little black puppy tried to bark at her, but all that came out was a comic squeeze toy sound. Christine laughed.
'He surely doesn't look too ferocious!'
'Don't worry, he'll grow up into a guard you can trust', Daria smiled.
Days passed by and some nights Christine was so tired she would fall down on an armchair and sleep. But her savings were going up and she already saw a second hand sewing machine that was affordable.
And Dorinne was playing all day long on the new drawing table she had got after Christine's first day of work. Her daughter's doodles made her smile and kept her going on.
And still, JD's ghost would show up every night and haunt the house while the two girls were deep asleep.
