Cole convinced Sonia to move in with him for the remainder of their visit.
Cole: So I can spend more time with Anna. To get to know her.
Sonia was reluctant but ultimately gave in.
He went to the local market and bought toys for her to play with.
Cole: Anything you want Anna.
Sonia: Please don't spoil her.
Cole: I can't help it.
Her favorite toy was the easy bake oven. She loved baking cupcakes and muffins. Cole would always volunteer to take the first bite. Always exaggerating how tasty they were. Cole and Anna were inseperable. He took her where ever she wanted to go. She loved going to the museums with him. The small town was known as a tourist attraction and often had the largest museum in southern France.
They shared moments over lunch when it just the two of them. Cole wanted to make up for the 7 years he missed. They talked about everything from favorite color, songs. They talked about her school and her favorite subjects, reading. Or play her favorite sport. His relationship with Sonia was getting better. They traveled around the town like a family. And he often helped her with digs and finding hidden treasures. Cole: I just want to thank you for everything. Spending time with Anna has been great.
Sonia: I want to do what is best for her.
Cole held her hand. She began to feel goosebumps under his touch again. She quickly let go.
Meanwhile, Anna did more traveling around the small town. But this time, she made sure to not go to far and to be back home before dark. In the mornings, the family ate together and talked about the day before. Anna's favorite time was when they were all together. Sonia enjoyed harvesting plants from the local market. And Anna would volunteer her and Cole to help. Just seeing them together made her happy. Cole: I wanted to thank you for joining me for dinner.
Sonia: I wasn't sure at first.
Cole: I could tell. But thank you. It's nice to get some alone time with you.
Sonia: Alone time?
Cole: To talk about Anna and what we are going to do after you both leave.
Sonia: Oh
They talked for a while about Anna and when he would visit and how often she would visit. After a while the conversation about her left them and then there was a silence. It was and awkward silence. They spent most of their time talking about Anna that she was their shield from talking about other things. Cole: Come on.
Sonia: Where are we going?
Cole: You'll see.
They traveled to Aubrey's winery.
Cole: They have the finest of wines. Sweet, sour, rich, thin, whatever you like.
Sonia tasted the wines and agreed they were good. The two of them spent the rest of the night drinking and laughing together.
After the winery had closed for the night, they took a long walk back to through town.
Sonia: The night looks so nice. So beautiful.
Cole: Not as beautiful as you Sonia.
Sonia: And you are a wonderful man.
Cole: You're just saying that because you've been drinking.
Sonia: Not at all. I've been so mean to you and yet you still keep staying.
Cole: I'd do it all over again if it meant being with you and Anna.
He wrapped his hands around her waist.
Cole: I was so stupid, so stupid for thinking that I could get over you. I tried so hard convincing myself that we would never work and it was better to leave you alone. I was wrong.
Cole: I've thought about you everyday. Thought about us. And now that you are here with me and my daughter, it only makes things right again. Sonia kissed him softly. Then kissed him more passionately.
They laid on the bed kissing and caressing each other. He kissed her forehead, her nose, and her lips again.
Cole: It's been so long since I've been with you. I don't want to forget any of this.
Sonia: Me too. I've missed you Cole. I've missed you so.
Cole: I want us to be together Sonia.
Sonia: I do too.
He took one last look into her eyes and then they shared another intimate night together.
Cole watched Sonia as she began to drift off.
Cole: Are you okay?
Sonia: Yes.
Cole: Are you tired?
Sonia: Yes.
Cole: I love you Sonia.
He watched her sleep a little longer before going to bed himself.
The next morning, Cole woke early to make breakfast. He was excited from the night before and wanted to make something perfect for Sonia. He had already woken Anna and got her dressed for the morning. She went over the hills to find more butterflies. Cole called to Sonia who eventually woke up. She came down the stairs staggering from her hangover.
Cole: Are you alright?
Sonia: Kind of. I don't know what I drank or ate but I'm not doing that again.
Cole: About last night
Sonia: I am just afraid I wasn't myself. I mean, I really don't remember much. I just hope I was behaving. I had this terrible dream that you and I......
I'm afraid to say it.
Cole: You and I what.
Sonia: This is so embarrassing. That you and I, that we kissed and woohooed last night. I can't really remember much. At first I thought I had dreamt it. But when I woke without clothes. I got worried.
Sonia: Do you know how awkward that would make things? I mean, we are supposed to be here for Anna and here we are making out and doing other stuff. I was so afraid to ask you when I woke up with no clothes on.
Cole: No. No we didn't. You were tired and so I took you to bed. That's all.
Sonia: Oh my goodness. You don't know how happy that makes me feel. I was so afraid that something happened between us.
Cole looked at Sonia. There was such a relief on her face to know that last night never happened that he didn't want to tell her truth. That he confessed his love to her. That he wanted to be with her again. He couldn't mess it up. He didn't want to ruin things. For the rest of the morning, there was a different kind of silence at the table. He listened to her talk but was really upset with himself that he let things so that far with her, and to now have to lie about his feelings.
