Harold had always been shy and awkward growing up. That is, until he struck black gold just outside the limits of Pleasantview, which triggered his move there. After that, his limited wealth attracted attention from many people, including Kelly, a Romance sim at heart, but with a secondary interest in finance. Harold loved her very much, and the two married. He had a desire for a family, but Kelly had no interest in ever having children. Finally, they compromised on one child, and Quinten was born.

Despite his small fortune, Harold only wanted a small house so that he would be closer to his family. Kelly, on the other hand, was constantly trying to convince her husband to purchase something more grand. Instead she lavishly decorated what little rooms they had, and it was rumored that no other house in Pleasantview was as expensively decorated per square foot as theirs. Kelly was the adventurous kind. And Harold was still very shy and introverted. She was always looking for excitement, and more 'spice' in life. That didn't go well, as it only made the two angry at each other, and Kelly received a few slaps from Mrs. Crumplebottom. Kelly had never really cared for her husband, but rather for his money. Therefore, as Romance sims are known for doing, Kelly cheated on her poor husband. A lot. Quinten knew exactly what was going on at home, and it affected his schoolwork. He was as smart and clever as his father, but the trouble between his mother and father was hard on him. Even with those burdens, he was a very popular boy, and had many friends, because he had inherited his mother's charm and charisma. As he grew up into a teenager, his grades improved as his parents grew more and more apart. Instead of constantly fighting, they were barely speaking, and the silence helped Quinten to study better. He left for college five years later, studying business in preparation for taking over his father's oil company.
