Sorry part 8 has taken so long! Enjoy :)

Sorry part 8 has taken so long! Enjoy :) Having settled into life as a human, Gabriel was excited to celebrate Ava and Eve’s birthday with a celebration at their home. The party was buzzing full of friends and guests and Gabriel was preparing the BBQ eagerly. Ava usually hated parties but tonight she enjoyed being the centre of attention and mingling with her friends. There were some people at the party that Ava didn’t recognise; she assumed they were Gabriel’s friends. There was one man who kept glancing over at her and it made her feel awkward. He was watching her intently and looked as though he wanted to speak to her. Ava was intrigued by the man and she was going to go speak to him and introduce herself. She watched as the man moved away from the guests and stood alone, she followed him a few moments later. “Hello, I’m Ava,” she said to the man and smiled her politest smile.

“Harvey,” the man answered, “It’s nice to finally meet you. Gabriel is smittened by you.”
Ava blushed and Harvey continued, “So much so he’s willing to give everything up for you.”

“What do you mean?” Ava asked confused, her smiling fading.

“All he’s worked for, all his missions. He was given a second chance and now he’s going to blow it. It’s not easy doing this job, but it’s an honour,” Harvey said bitterly.
“I don’t understand...” Ava said shocked.

“You wouldn’t,” Harvey smiled, “How well do you know Gabriel? Do you trust him?” Harvey glanced around the room and waited for a response.

“Of course I do!” Ava exclaimed.

“Then get out while you can, before he hurts you,” Harvey warned, “You can’t live the life he’s leading.” With that he walked off and left Ava alone.

During their talk, Ava saw Gabriel glance over a few times whilst he spoke to a pretty brunette. They spoke quickly and she seemed angry at Gabriel. Ava found herself wondering what was happening and what Harvey had meant.

Her thoughts were cut off by the brunette walking past her and smiling, “My name’s Sophie,” she smiled, “You must be Ava. Gabriel has spoken so much about you. We’re old friends.” Ava nodded, unsure of what to say but Sophie continued, “He’s a good person you know, don’t let him give everything up. He’s a good one, we need him.”

“I don’t get what you...” Ava started but Sophie left the party in a rush.

Ava glanced over at Gabriel, who was in conversation with a few friends and she tried to make sense of what had been said to her.
A few minutes later, Gabriel left the party and gave Ava a few excuses of need to go to work. Ava knew he was lying but she let him go. Gabriel’s head was spinning, he was angry and panicked at the same time. What had Sophie said to Ava? Why was Harvey at the party? Sophie and Harvey were two of Gabriel’s fellow Angels from above. All three had been employed from Heaven to help others who were most in need. Harvey had been doing the job for a few years now, but unlike Gabriel he liked to complete his missions as soon as possible so he could finally gain full acceptance into heaven. Like Gabriel, Harvey had led a bad previous life and was making amends for it as soon as he could. The only issue was that he hadn’t changed much and was still incredibly selfish. Gabriel, on the other hand, was now selfless and deeply in love with Ava. Harvey couldn’t stand seeing Gabriel so happy and would do whatever he could to sabotage it. Gabriel guessed that it had been Harvey who asked Sophie to crash the party with him. Sophie was an ex love of Gabriel’s and for a short time had his lover. She too was given a second chance at life and was a lot more loving than Harvey, the only issue was she cared more about Gabriel than anything else and this had been a big problem when Gabriel didn’t share that love. Gabriel cared about Sophie but not enough to be together forever. He was past that point now but still he found himself on the beach ready to meet her. When she arrived, she was still as beautiful as ever. Her hair was loose and she wore a headband. She was dressed in a suit and he guessed she’d changed to try and impress him.

“Gabriel,” she smiled sweetly, “How I have missed you.”

“Hello Sophie,” Gabriel replied.
“You’re mad at me,” Sophie pouted, “I only wanted to see you.”

“You had no right,” Gabriel replied, “It was Ava’s party and you know it.”
“I came to make you see sense, how can you love a human?” Sophie asked.

“She’s the love of my life, my soul mate,” Gabriel replied.
Sophie rolled her eyes, “Are you willing to give up eternal life and happiness for a life of aging, suffering and death?”

“To be with her, yes,” Gabriel answered.
“Then you’re a fool,” Sophie said tears filling her eyes.

“I cannot be with you Sophie, I do love you, but not in the way you want me to,” Gabriel replied holding Sophie close.
“Then kiss me, for the last time,” Sophie begged and Gabriel shook his head, “Please...” Gabriel sighed and kissed Sophie softly and briefly. “Goodbye Sophie,” he said and she nodded. With that the headed home as the sun began to rise. He’d been gone a few hours now and Ava would be worried. Sophie watched Gabriel leave and knew his mind was made up, his path was chosen. Ava was panicked and worried that Gabriel was still not home. She’d tried to sleep but found herself up early for her morning run. He was nowhere to be seen. She’d made him breakfast, but he still hadn’t turned up. She hoped he had a good explanation or she was going to be very angry with him. She sat down to eat and heard the door click. Gabriel walked in a few moments, still dressed in his clothes from last night. She frowned and continued to eat whilst he collected his breakfast. He sat down opposite her and began to eat; he didn’t say anything or make much eye contact. She was livid. He’d left her party early and had been gone all night. Yet he hadn’t apologised. She ate quickly and began to clear up, when she reached the dishwasher she said, “Where have you been?”

“I had to meet someone, I lost track of the time,” Gabriel said.
“You left me alone at my party, for hours!” Ava said angrily, “I thought I could rely on you.”

“You can,” Gabriel argued, “It’s just not that simple.”
“That girl at the party, was she an ex of yours?” Ava asked curious.

“She was,” Gabriel admitted, “But that’s all...”
Ava cut in, “Look me in the eyes and tell me that you weren’t out with her when you should’ve been here for me.”

Gabriel flinched, he couldn’t look at Ava or make eye contact for more than a few moments.

“I was with her, but it’s not what you think,” Gabriel said.
“Then tell me,” Ava replied annoyed.

“I can’t, it’s private and not important to what’s going on between you and I,” Gabriel answered.
Ava found herself flushed with anger, “How can I trust you? If you can’t tell me your secrets?”

“You can trust me,” Gabriel begged.

“Obviously I can’t,” Ava said upset, “Or you would be honest with me.”
Gabriel moved forward to console Ava but she pushed him away. “Ava please...” he begged her but she cut him off.

“It’s over,” Ava said, “I can’t be with someone who I can’t trust, I am sorry. You need to leave.”
Gabriel knew then it was over and he didn’t beg Ava for forgiveness. He knew he couldn’t tell her the truth about his past as it would blow his cover. But he couldn’t lie to her either. Ava was devastated by the ending of the relationship but if there was one thing she deserved, it was the truth. As Gabriel packed had a quick shower and packed his belongs he pondered his next movements. Gabriel’s role as Ava’s guardian was not over, it was going to continue. But this time it was from a distance, Ava just didn’t know it yet.

I personally think Ava's overreacting a bit, but I guess I would sorta feel that way if I were her, Gabriel really shouldn't have caved in into that kiss, and he really should be more honest with Ava
