Sophia thought long and hard about what her mother talked about the other night. She knew that she was not being a nice host to Ryan, but at the time she did not care. She knew nothing about this stranger that had not only pushed himself on her home but her family. And most importantly, he was invading on her memories with Travis.
But she set aside her own feelings for the moment. Because she knew it was something that Travis would not be happy with. She hated the feeling of giving in, but she was going to do it for Brooklyn.

Ryan was sitting in the living room playing video games. It was one of the few things he did for fun during his stay with the Allen's. Sophia: Mind if I join?
He looked up twice when he noticed it was Sophia standing in front of him.
Ryan: Are you talking to me?
Sophia: You're the only one playing the game. Mind if I join?
Ryan: Sure, sure.....I can restart it.
Ryan moved over on the couch as she sat next to him and retrieved the other controller.
Ryan: I just want to warn you I am pretty good.
Five games later......
Ryan: Okay so best our of 11.
Sophia: I think I've hurt you long enough. Besides, I've played this game against Aj plenty of times so I've had practice.
Ryan: Well I'm not much of a gamer. I was always more of the athletic type. Sports was always my thing.
Sophia: Well I do know there is a nice soccer field over at the park. You want to go over there tomorrow?
Ryan: Sure. I haven't played in a few years but I'd think I still have some moves.
Sophia: It's a nice field. Maybe we can grab something to eat at the Green Scene afterwards. It's one of those organic spots but it has some great food.
Ryan: Sounds like a date.
Sophia: A what?
Ryan: I didn't mean a date, date. Like a planned activity...between two people...
He let his voice trail off as he tried to explain but gave up.
Sophia: Okay. Well I have to go.
Ryan: Sophia-
Sophia: Yes.
Ryan: Why are you being nice to me now? I'm not saying you're a mean person, but you've barely said a few phrases to me since I came here. And now you are...
Sophia: Let's just say I feel that if you are going to be here for another week, then you should spend it doing stuff and not cooped up in the house all day.
At the field they played a game of one on one.
Ryan: Alright I do have to warn you that I haven't played in a while. I may be a little rusty.
Sophia: It's okay if that is the excuse you're going to with for losing to me.
Ryan: That's it. You're going down little girl.
Sophia set up the ball in front of him.
Ryan began to playfully heckle her as she kicked the ball towards the net, only to miss the first 3 times.
Ryan: Come on now. You can do better than that.
Sophia backed up the last time and kicked the ball with all her might.
Sophia: Gooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaal!
She laughed.
Ryan: The sun was in my eyes.
Sophia: Sure.
Ryan: It was.
They both laughed again as he got up from the ground.
Ryan: Alright, my turn
And when it was his turn to kick, Sophia caught everyone of them that came her way.
Ryan: Okay did you just swindle me or something.
Sophia: In high school, I was also a big athlete. That's how I got my scholarship to college.
Ryan: And no one told me this.
Sophia: You never asked.
They played for what seemed like hours. Both of them just as competitive and therefore it was almost well into the afternoon. Afterwards, they walked over the Green Scene to have lunch and then back to the house.
Ryan: I'm glad to have gotten out the house. I like your dad, but he wasn't much competition for basketball.
Sophia: Did he get you on those old bones, trick too. Now that's his excuse for losing to me when I got older.
The next day she took him to the skating rink at the square. It was opening day of the summer carnival in Starlight Shores.
Ryan: Okay I have a small confession. I never learned how to skate.
Sophia: Really? So that's why you look so nervous.
Ryan: I thought it wouldn't be so bad, but this is bad.
His knees wouldn't stop shaking as he moved closer to her on the wheels.
She gently grabbed his hands.
Sophia: Here. Now loosen up. You have to relax.
His palms began to sweat under her hand. He didn't know if he was nervous because she was holding his hand or because he was on skates.
Her voice was calm and soothing as she instructed him.
Ryan: I think I am getting the hang of it.
And just as he said that he lost his balance and began to fall. He tried to brace himself but instead took out Sophia as well.
He just laid there next to her for what seemed like forever, embarrassed. In the distance he could here laughing. And when he looked up he saw it was Sophia. It was the first time he heard her laugh so loud.
She got back up on her feet and helped him up as well.
Sofia: On your feet soldier.
Ryan: I don't know about this.
Sofia: Nonsense.

It took a few more tries but soon he was able to get the hang of it. She was finally able to let him skate on his own.
He skated around the rink, following her as they laughed and enjoyed the day. He wasn't a pro but he did less falling than when he began.
He watched her as she moved along the rink. He remembered her being just as graceful in the water. She went to the middle and began to spin. He stopped just to watch her again.
Ryan: Beautiful.
They walked over to the other side of the park where Ryan spotted the photo booth.
Ryan: Come on.
Sophia: No, I'll pass.
Ryan: I don't bite. Come on, just one photo. Just so I can remember my first time on skates.
Sophia reluctantly followed him in the booth.
Ryan: Goofy face!
Sophia did have to admit that she was enjoying her time with him. What seemed like a chore at first, turned out to be fun.
Ryan: You have to taste the deep fried twinkies.
Sophia: That just sounds like pounds to my thighs.
Ryan: Come on and live a little on the dangerous side.
And after trying a piece of his, she ordered her own.
Ryan: See, I told you.
They stayed at the carnival all evening. Doing everything from face painting, to visiting the pet farm. He won her a few stuffed animals as well.
And when they found the basketball arcade, they played several games in a row. He was leading her this time only to give up his lead so that she could win.
While walking, they came across an old Love meter.
Ryan: Want to see if it works?
Sophia: Please, that thing is probably so old, it would say anything.
Ryan: What are you so scared of?
Sophia: Nothing. I just don't believe in those things.
Ryan: The machine... or love.
Sophia sighed and rolled her eyes.
Ryan placed the quarter in the machine. He placed his hand on the handle and looked for her to do the same. Now she was nervous. She sighed again and slowly placed her hand on the other handle. He pressed the start button and the machine began to light up. Up and down, up and down the lights went. Then the lights went up. Both of their hearts beating faster.
And just as it was reaching the top, it blew. She let out a sigh of relief.
Ryan: You were right. It's a broken old machine.
Sophia: Right, I told you.
There was a small sound of resentment in her voice.
It was late before the two of them returned home laughing and talking. They kept trying to shh each other when one would get too loud.
Sophia: Don't wake my parents.
Ryan: Right, and what will they do to us.
Sophia: Oh right.
They began to laugh again.
Ryan: It's nice to see you like this.
Sophia: Like what?
Ryan: Laughing. I haven't seen you laugh. At least not because of me.
Sophia: Well...things changed.
Ryan: I'm glad it did. I just wish it happened a lot sooner. I only have a week left and I'm having so much fun.
Sophia: Well, my friends and I usually go to the family beach house during the first weekend of the month. We've been going there since high school. Want to go?
Ryan: I don't know
Sophia: What?
Ryan: You know I just have so much on my schedule. I don't know if I can squeeze it in.
Sophia laughed again.
Ryan: There is that smile again. You should do more of it. You light up more.
Sophia blushed
Sophia: Well I better go. It is getting late. See you in the morning.
Ryan: Yeah. See you in the morning.
They both walked in the other direction to their bedrooms.
Brooklyn: Were you spying on the kids?
Aj: Me, no. I just thought I heard something and wanted to check on them, I mean it.
Brooklyn: Sure.
Aj: Did you know they went out today?
Brooklyn: I did.
Aj: And the other day?
Brooklyn: I did
Aj: And no one has told me?
Brooklyn: It is harmless Aj. I asked her to be more nice to him. It's better than Ryan hanging around us all day.
Aj: I don't know.
Brooklyn: Oh honey.
Aj: I just don't want anyone to get hurt.
Brooklyn: Like who?
Aj: I don't know.
Brooklyn: He is only here for another week. I just want him to have some real fun for his last week.
Aj: I guess you're right. I'm just being over protective. She's my little girl and I don't want her to get all wrapped up and...
He didn't finish.
Brooklyn snuggled under him.
Brooklyn: I love it when you get all family man on me.
Aj: Oh really. Well if you want me to talk more I can.
Brooklyn: Later. Right now, I have a better idea.
