Ryan's mood was turning better. He was enjoying his visit with the Allen's more now that he was hanging with Sophia.
She took him around to the Hot Spots in town and he was considered part of her entourage of party goers.
Although he was more down to earth than the usual night life crew but he didn't mind the perks of freebies and discounts from hanging with Sophie Allen.

He sat outside on the patio of the house, letting the sun warm his face. He was listening to a CD he found of Aj's. It was already in the stereo so he decided to play it. He closed his eyes and listened to the music while reclining himself in the chair. He thought back to the pictures he had seen of his father. He thought back to the tales Aj shared with him and how lovingly Brooklyn spoke about him. Travis was such an important person to everyone he knew. And he admired him for that.
The only piece he was missing was Sophia. He wanted to know what kind of a father he was. How she grew up with him. But he knew that asking her meant a lot of hurt. Hurt that she was not ready to deal with. So he decided not to.
Sophia: Penny for your thoughts?
Her words nearly startled him as he jumped up from his position.
Sophia(laughing a bit): Sorry. Didn't mean to alarm you. Should have known not to surprise a military man?
Ryan: No worries. I was just thinking and listening to music.
Sophia: You like it.
Ryan: Yeah it's pretty good. It's different from his previous stuff.
Sophia: Yeah, that's my song.
Ryan: Yeah right.
Sophia went back into the house and came back with her guitar. She played along with the music to the CD.
Sophia: That's my song Aj is playing. He let me feature on his last album.
She continued played more and even adding to the guitar in the background. Ryan was amazed.
Ryan: I can't believe it. You play wonderfully.
Sophia smiled at his compliment. It sounded different coming from him.
Ryan: Is there anything you can't do? I mean really. You play video games, swim like you were made for the water, skate, ballet and play sports. And now, the guitar. I mean is there any other talent I don't know about.
Sophia: Let's get it right, I was always sporty. Mom just wouldn't allow it. She was afraid I would get hurt. So I had to settle for ballet and ice skating until Travis finally convinced her to let me.
She sat down in the chair next to him.
Sophia: Besides, what about you. There is so much mystery about you.
Ryan: All you have to do is ask. I am really an open book. But trust me. There isn't much to talk about. I lived a plain life.
Sophia: But you were in the military. You've seen so much. Let's start with the simple. What was your childhood like?
Ryan: Well, I spent most of my life with my mother and grandparents. I was an active kid. Always getting into stuff. Climbing stuff. I used to climb on top of the house almost every night. Pops called me his little monkey. But as I got older I began to rebel. By high school both of my grandparents passed away and it was just me and mom.
I was a bitter teenager. I did a lot of really bad things that now that I am older, I wish I never did. Just being a terrible kid.
Ryan: I barely graduated high school. It was just me and my mother. She tried to remarry a few times but nothing worked out. I told myself that I wasn't going to be that kid anymore. I finally saw all the hurt I was causing her. So I enlisted. I wanted to make her proud. It was the best decision I had ever made. I loved it. I was able to travel, see the world, meet lots of different people. Learned languages. I needed to just get away and be on my own for a while. Ryan: I had enlisted for another term and after serving I found out my mother was ill. So her last year I stayed with her. I took care of her like I should have been. That's when she told me about my father. How they met, Brooklyn and Aj, but she was still keeping some things from me.
Ryan's face began to sadden.
Sophia: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you sad. I....
Ryan: Don't be. I don't mind. I would have never came across my mother's things and began to ask questions about my dad. Mom never talked about him when I was growing up. So finding that stuff was like finding a hidden treasure. I would have never found Aj or Brooklyn. I would have never found y-
He stopped talking.
Ryan: Hey let's dance.
Before she could say another word, Ryan lifted her up from the chair. She nearly lost her breath as he twirled her around and back into his arms.
Sophia: Whoa!
Ryan: While living abroad I took a lot of dance lessons. I know about 20 kinds. The tango is my favorite.
Sophia: Well I hope you don't mind, I just know one.
They glided across the floor as if they were one person. She closed her eyes and laid her head next to his. She gave out a sigh as he wrapped his arm tighter around her waste.
Ryan: What do you think? (he spoke softly in her ear)
Sophia slowly let go when she realized they stopped dancing.
Sophia: You dance..... alright.
Brooklyn was busy tending to her garden. As always she would sing and talk to them. The morning was peaceful. Aj had taken Hannah to the park while Ryan left earlier that morning to prepare his paperwork to enter back into the military. Sophia was still asleep from all the partying the night before. Sophia: Mom?
Brooklyn: I thought you were still sleep. There is some breakfast still in the refrigerator.
Sophia: I'm fine. Where is everyone?
Brooklyn: Your dad is out with Hannah and Ryan went to go finish paperwork to enlist.
Sophia: Oh. I forgot he was going to be doing that today.
Sophia sighed as she watched her mother continued in the garden. When Brooklyn didn't respond, she repeated herself again.
Brooklyn: Okay. What is it?
Sophia: I don't know.
Brooklyn: Then grab a tool and help me with the vegetables.
Sophia did as her mother told her. Brooklyn knew it was the only way to get her daughter to talk.
It wasn't long before Sophia began to talk.
Sophia: I just don't know how I am supposed to feel about Ryan.
Brooklyn: What about Ryan? He's getting ready to leave. Isn't that what you wanted in the first place.
Sophia: I did. I do. There is just something about him that I don't get. He seems to be normal but I just get this feeling that there is something he is hiding.
Brooklyn: Are we still on that Sophia?
Sophia: Can you blame me? He is just too good to be true.
Brooklyn: For who?
Sophia: I'm just saying. He shows up out of no where, has paperwork that he is the long lost son of Travis. And you open your home to him.
Brooklyn: Are you trying to convince me or yourself?
It started to get cloudy so Brooklyn wrapped up working in the garden.
Brooklyn: He is only going to be here for another few days. Let's just make sure he leaves on a positive note.
Sophia: But mom
Brooklyn: Positive okay.
Sophia: Alright.
With less than one week left, Ryan was determined to do as much as possible. This time it was Sophia who was keeping up with him.

They were spending more time alone, just the two of them, without her entourage of friends that usually came along. Although they never considered them dates, word had spread around town about "Sophie Allen spotted around with mystery man".
Neither of them paid attention to the rumors as they were just having fun, hanging out.
Each time they went out, they would arrive back just as the sun was almost coming up. Ryan would make breakfast for them and they would laugh talking about what happened that night.
Sophia: You love to cook don't you.
Ryan: Just something I picked put while in the service.
Sophia: So are you really going back?
Ryan: Yeah. It's all I know. Besides, I don't really have a family and lately the military has been it for me.
Sophia felt terrible. She realized how much Ryan truly needed a place to call home.
Sophia: So are you still coming to the beach house this weekend?
Ryan: I wouldn't miss it. I can't wait.
The place was just as she had described to Ryan. He had never seen this side of Starlight Shores. It was on the opposite side of town, away from the glitz and glam from the city. There were dozens of beach houses along the shore and just at the very end was theirs.
Ryan: You were right. It's nice.
Sophia: Dad said it used to be home of one of the local surfers and his family. So there is a lot of space to roam.
The two were accompanied by a group of friends from town. At least 3 of them were also celebrity children. The rest had just been long time friends since high school. It was their tradition since their sophomore years. Sophia: I was looking for you.
Ryan: I just can't believe there are places like this around.
Sophia: But during your travels you didn't visit anywhere like this.
Ryan: You don't really pay attention to every sight when you're in the military. You're on a separate mission. And when you finally do have time, it's short. But growing up in the city, the beach never looked like this.
Sophia: Well I'm happy you came. I just didn't want to leave you back home with mom and dad during the Anniversary celebrations.
Ryan: I'm happy I came. I'm always happy when I'm with you. I mean....
Sophia looked up for him to finish but he caught his words again.
Ryan: You know. I feel like you know so much about me, yet I know nothing about you.
Sophia: Yes you do.
Ryan: I just know about what your parents told me about you.
Sophia: You also know that I play sports and what I used to do as a child.
Ryan: Yes, but I don't know Sophia.
Sophia: Why are you so interested in me?
Ryan: I always have. I just never had the chance to ask.
Sophia: Are you trying to know about me or more about Travis?
Ryan: Well I would like to know how he was. But honestly, I want to know Sophia.
Sophia: My childhood was plain up until Aj. When he came into my life, that is when everything seemed to change. I'm just as simple as everyone else.
Ryan: Sure.
At night the group sat by the fireplace roasting dinner and smores. Ryan couldn't help at times but to gaze at Sophia more. Her almond eyes twinkled in the light. And when she noticed he was looking at her, she could feel her face become warmer than the fire. Late that night Ryan took a swim at the beach. He called out to Sophia who was jogging by to join him. At first she was reluctant to swim at night.
Ryan: Scared?
Sophia: Never.
Ryan: Then come on. The water is nice.
They swam back and forth in the water. Splashing each other, and playing till they grew tired.
Sophia: We better go back. It is getting late.
Ryan looked up at the sky.
Ryan: Or getting early.
They both looked up and noticed the moon was disappearing and the sun was beginning to rise over the hills.
They laughed as they got out of the water. Both dragging their legs as they got closer to shore.
Ryan: I'm so tired now. I could sleep for hours.
Sophia: I can't believe I was out this late in the water. My body feels so prunie.
Ryan thought to himself: It looks great from here.
