Sophia left the house in a hurry. She was leaving on the first flight somewhere and fast. While Ryan was gone she thought that this would be a good time for her to travel and get some air as well. Aj was curious as to where she was running off to. But he knew she was her mother's child and that she just needed time to herself. From what, he had no idea.
Aj: Women!

Aj: Women!
Sophia stood on the grassy area for almost an hour. She was nervous to speak, and didn't know what to say.
Sophia: Hey. So here we and I.

She looked around the at the bushes and trees, never making real eye contact.
Sophia: It looks nice here. I like what they have done with the place since I was last here. (she let out a nervous laugh)

Sophia: I guess you know why I'm here. I figured if it worked for mom then it should work for me.
Sophia: So,a son huh? I couldn't believe it either. Not at first. But Ryan's nice. Always sincere, kind, like you. You should see him with Hannah.

I guess that's why it's so hard for me. I mean, you were always part of my life. You were MY dad. And when I learned that you really weren't, it was like my whole life came crumbling down. And just when I thought I had come to peace with it, here comes Ryan reminding me ALL over again. Not intentionally of course.
She began to pace back and forth in front of the tombstone.
Sophia: And to make matter's worse. I think I like him. Can you believe it? I've fallen for your son. But I don't know if I feel this way because he is your son or because he is Ryan.

Sophia: If ever I needed your words of wisdom, it would be now. Just to hear your voice, to tell me what I should do. You always knew what to do.

Sophia closed her eyes as the cool breeze swept over her. She took a deep breath and just stood there.
Sophia: Please say something.
Ryan: Sophia?
She gasped. Her heart stopped for a second as she was not sure who was calling her name.
Ryan: Sophia? Is that you?
Sophia recognized the voice the second time.
Sophia: Yeah?
She turned around to see Ryan standing there.
Sophia: What are you doing here? Mom said you had some last minute business to take care of.
Ryan: I did, I do. This was it. I wanted to see my father before I left. To see where he lived his last years and where he was buried. I went to visit the fire station where he worked. Some of the people there still remember him. They have his picture hung on their Wall of Heroes.
Sophia: Yeah, I remember.
Ryan: What are you doing here?
Sophia: Oh nothing.
Ryan: Well you traveled a long way just for nothing.
Sophia: I just felt like coming to visit his grave. Clean it up a little. Mom usually does it twice every year but I haven't been by since we left town. I should though. Just so he knows I'm still around.
Ryan: Well if you need more time I can wait. I've come here at least three times a day since I've been here. Just sitting here and talking to him. It makes me feel a lot closer to him.
Sophia: Yeah. Me too.
Sophia: Yeah, well. I guess it's your turn. I have to get back home. This was going to be a short trip.
Ryan: You don't have to leave because of me.
Sophia: No, I have to get back.
She began to walk off
Ryan: Sophia? I was coming back to spend my last two nights back in Starlight. If you don't want me to, then I won't. I know what your parents said but I don't want to make things uncomfortable for you.
Sophia felt bad knowing that she was the determining factor if he decided not to come back. She knew her parents were planning a farewell party and that they looked forward to him returning back.
Sophia: No. I'm fine. We're fine. Look I really have to get back. I have a lot of things to do when I get back home and you obviously need to wrap things up for yourself.

She started to walk away.
He grabbed her arm gently.
Ryan: Sophia, I.....
For some reason he stopped himself. He couldn't finish. He couldn't say what he wanted to say as he looked at her.
Ryan: I want to thank you for everything these past weeks. And I guess I will see you when I get back.
She smiled back at him and gave him a short friendly hug.
Sophia: I'll see you in Starlight.
Sophia walked away from him and refused to look back to see if he was watching her.
But she did feel at peace when she left the graveyard that morning. She had let go of a lot of feelings and was able to be truthful with herself. She sat in the car and smiled again before driving away.
Ryan arrived back at Starlight the day after Sophia. Brooklyn and Aj had planned a going away party for him. It was filled with all the people he had connected with over the last few weeks and a few family friends. It was a great going away party and Ryan felt so honored that Brooklyn and Aj would do something like that for him.
But no matter who he schmoozed with throughout the party, he always looked for Sophia. Trying to see what she was doing.
They always stayed on opposite sides of the room. Never talking directly to each other, yet looking over the room to see where the other one was. Sophia found herself looking for him as well. Yet when their eyes met, they would look away to avoid each other. After the party, Sophia went for a jog to clear her head. She thought about her conversation with Brooklyn. Her mother's words clung to her. She thought about Aj and Travis and then, Ryan. Why was it so hard for her to just let things be?
By the end of her run, she realized that she had jogged nearly to the other side of town. But by the end, she had made up her mind. She had to do what was right.
Ryan was laying in his bed that night. Everything was packed and ready to go for the next morning. He ran through his weeks with the Allens, smiling at all the fun he had, the people he met. He was truly grateful for meeting them and Aj and Brooklyn opening up their lives so he could find out about his father. If only he could fix the one part of his life that was not as easy. If only Sophia would talk to him. He was dozing off in his bed when he saw the his bedroom door open. An image of Sophia appeared in his doorway.
She whispered his name as she peered inside. When he didn't answer, she did it again. And then he took a double take when he realized he was not dreaming and that she truly was in his room.
She walked closer to his bed and he sprang up from his sleep.
Sophia: Shhh!
Ryan: Sorry. What are you doing here?
He took a look back to see that she was in her nightgown. He tried to block the thought in his head.
Sophia: I needed to talk to you before you left. Sorry it's so late, I couldn't sleep.
She took a deep breath
Sophia: I know I haven't been the easiest person to get along with since you got here. And just when you thought we were going one way, I turned another. I just wanted to say that I am sorry.
Ryan: You shouldn't be sorry. I know me being here put a dent in everyone's life and I didn't want to be burden.
Ryan: I just wanted to find out where I came from. I had no intention of hurting anyone in the process. Honest. But being with you....being around you.....I.....I... Without saying anything else, Sophia wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. At first he was shocked, but he was not going to stop. He didn't know what it meant, and didn't care. Just to feel her warm body again was good enough for him. This time, she stepped back towards the bed and laid on it. She held her hand out motioning for him to come to her.
He was hesitant at first but eventually walked over to her. There he ran his hands over her skin, trying to memorize how every curve felt. And when he was done he looked into her eyes again. She nodded to him and smiled.
He kissed her again.

Before going any further, he lifted himself up.
Ryan: Are you sure this is what you want?
Sophia: Yes.
Ryan: I want you to be happy Sophia.
Sophia: I am. Here with you.

He felt tingles as the words came from her mouth. He smiled back at her and began kissing her more, passionately.
There was a quick knock at the door and then it opened.

Aj: Hey Ryan, I was thinking that maybe we could...
Aj blushed as he realized that he walked in on Ryan with some girl.
Aj: Sorry, the door was cracked and-
Sophia: DAD!
Aj: RYAN???
Sophia: Oh my goodness.
Ryan jumped from the bed.
Ryan: Aj I can explain.
Aj was turning red. There was fire in his eyes as he saw his daughter in bed with Ryan.
Ryan: I know this looks bad.
Aj: Looks bad? LOOKS BAD??
Ryan: Look Aj, I-
Aj punched Ryan in the stomach knocking the wind out of him. He couldn't breath, and was feeling light headed.

Sophia screamed as Ryan knelt down to the ground. She had never seen her father this angry before. She quickly got up from the bed as well calling for her mother.
Brooklyn had entered the room, confused about what she was seeing. But it only took a second for her to notice what was going on.
Brooklyn: Aj! How could you?
Aj: Me?
Brooklyn: Ryan is our guest. You don't go around punching people?
Aj: He's sleeping with out daughter Brook, under my ROOF!
Brooklyn didn't know what to say to calm him down. She too had never seen Aj this angry.
Brooklyn: Let's all calm down.
Ryan was finally able to catch his breath and began to speak.
Ryan: I'm sorry Brooklyn. I'm sorry Aj. I know how this may look but if we can just.
Aj: There is nothing to talk about. Just get ready.
Aj rolled up his sleeves more and put up his fists getting ready to fight.
Ryan: I am not going to fight you Aj.
Aj: Good. Then this will only take a second.
Ryan: I am not going to fight you Aj, because I am not going to disrespect Sophia like that.
Aj: And this is not? You have a lot of nerve kid. I welcome you in my house, to my family. And this is how you repay me?
Ryan: It's not like Aj! I love Sophia!
Brooklyn and Aj: YOU WHAT?
Sophia: What?
Ryan looked over at Sophia and then back at Aj.
Ryan: I love her. And I am not trying to take advantage of her. I just wanted to spend my last night with her. And I apologize if it's under your roof that this happened.

Aj put his fists down.
Ryan: I feel terrible that it looks like I took advantage of your hospitality. It was disrespectful. But I'm not apologizing for falling for Sophia.
Ryan looked over at Sophia, she was standing next to her mother, shocked and what she was hearing. She was stuck and couldn't move.
Ryan: This is not how I wanted us to end. I'm sorry.
Ryan walked over to Sophia. He grabbed her hand and kissed it. He grabbed his duffel bag and shoes and walked out the door.
Sophia began to cry and ran to hug Brooklyn. Aj stood there shocked in the moment. He looked at his hands and over back at Sophia who was crying on her mother's shoulder. He was ashamed of himself and his reaction. He walked out of the room.
Sophia: Oh mom. I don't know what just happened.
Brooklyn: It will be alright. Just calm down. Let me talk to him.
Aj was sitting in the living room picking at the fire in the fireplace and looking at the photos on the mantle.
Brooklyn: You know she's not that little girl anymore.
Aj: I know. I don't know what came over me.
Brooklyn: You were being a father. An over-protective one. But a father.
Aj: I messed up baby.
Aj: I just can't believe I would do something like that. And to Ryan. My best friend's son. Womb to tomb.
Brooklyn gave a small smile.
Brooklyn: It doesn't matter who it was, it was your daughter.
Aj: What do I do Brooke?
Brooklyn: I think you know what?
Aj: I am not apologizing. I was not wrong. I would hit him again! Just would have probably listened first.
Aj: And Sophia...She must really hate me right now.
Brooklyn: She'll get over it. It was a knee-jerk reaction. And you were a bit of a jerk.
Aj: Pour salt on the womb honey.
Brooklyn: Just go make amends. You don't want him to leave here on bad terms. We spent so much time with him and to leave things like this would be terrible.
Aj took a deep breath and went to get his jacket. He kissed his wife on the forehead.
Aj: What would I do without you?
Brooklyn smiled again. She sat on the couch and watched the fire crackle. She sighed to herself and shook her head.
Brooklyn: Goodness.
It was early the next morning when Aj and Ryan sat at the kitchen table.
Aj: I'm glad you came back.
Ryan: I at least wanted to say goodbye to everyone.
Aj: Yeah, well I am sorry I didn't end things the best with you last night.
Ryan: I probably would have reacted the same way if I was in your shoes. Probably worse.
Aj: Yeah well, I just want you to know that I am sorry. I should not have reacted too quickly and ruined your last....night...with us. (the thought of what would have happened almost made Aj sick to his stomach).
Ryan: Well, I at least want to thank you for welcoming me back and willing to forget about what did NOT happen last night.
Aj: You are like family son.
Ryan: I just want you and Brooklyn to know that I was telling the truth when I said I loved Sophia. She means a lot to me and I wouldn't do anything to hurt her.
Aj: That's exactly what I thought you would say.
He motioned in back of Ryan and stood up. He held his hand out to the young man.
Aj: Good luck my boy.

They hugged before he left the room.
Ryan looked in back of him and saw Sophia standing there, smiling.
Ryan: Sophia!
She walked towards him.
Sophia: I was worried you wouldn't come back.
Ryan: I had to say goodbye. Nothing was going to stop me from doing that.
Sophia: So I guess this is it. You're going back overseas.
Ryan: It's hard to believe.
Sophia: Have I ever told you I'm an excellent writer too?
Ryan laughed.
Sophia: I don't want us to make any promises. I don't want to be like those people that say that their love will last till the end of time and then midway through things change.
Ryan: Right. Let's just keep in touch and see how we feel when I get back.
Sophia: Exactly.
Ryan: Two years will pass in no time. And I will come back to visit. Back to you. That's if you will have me.
He ran his hand over her cheek. She melted to his touch.
She hugged him tightly.
Sophia: I am going to miss you.
By this time the cab was outside and ready to go.
Ryan said his goodbye to everyone and walked over to Sophia who was standing near the door.
Ryan held her hand.
Ryan: Come walk me outside?
Sophia tried to fight back the tears.
Ryan: I meant it when I said I love you. And no matter if after this we remain friends or something else, I just want you to know that you mean everything to me. And meeting you was the greatest moment of my life.
He took her in his arms one last time and they kissed goodbye.

I love this couple, but I was wondering if Sophie was still friends with her high school boyfriend. I adored him, too, and I was wondering if they were just exes or friends after being friends for so long before they started dating.
