Days turned into weeks, months, and years for Sophia and Ryan. During the time he was away, he constantly thought about her regardless of where he was. Egypt, France, China.
The thought of being with her kept him going throughout his time in the military.
On the other side of the world, Sophia was finishing her last year of college. She too missed Ryan and their time together. As promised, they wrote each other often. Because he seldom had email usage overseas she would write him at least 2 maybe 3 times a week. And when they did get a chance, they would video chat.
The seasons may have changed, but their feelings for each other remained.
Carol: Are you going to the party tonight Sophie? I heard there will be some good looking frats out tonight. And you know Loni Fields has been having his eye on you all this semester. I heard he's single now.
Sophia: I'll be there Carol, but not for Loni. But I can't stay long. I will need to be back to chat with Ryan.
Carol: Oh goodness. Here we go again.
Carol: Look, as your dear friend and roomie you are spending too much time with soldier boy Ryan. He is all the way on the other side of the world. It won't hurt if you take some time to have fun.
Sophia: It's not like that Carol. We are just keeping in touch, that's all.
Carol: Then why have you not dated anyone in the past two years?
Sophia: I just haven't found anyone right for me, that's all.
Carol: You haven't tried to find anyone. Always comparing them to soldier boy.
Sophia: I am not.
Carol looked at her friend and twisted her lip. She was not going to get into this conversation again.
Carol: Just come to the party. There are plenty of prime men out there if you just really look. And they are all HERE. So close, you can actually touch them.
Sophia laughed and went back to her letter. By the end of August Ryan was scheduled to be done with this tour and was coming back to Starlight to visit.
As promised they were keeping things slow in their letters. But neither of them were looking for other people. Neither of them wanted to date other people.
Ryan had spent most of his years traveling back and forth. But he did look forward to his moments of chatting with Sophia and seeing her face again. They didn't happen often, but when they did he was excited. He sent her just as many letters as she wrote him. Nearly every day he wrote to her. Some were short one page letters and others seemed to go on forever.
She kept everyone of them, locked away in her box.
Meanwhile, back at the Allens.

Hannah, was starting her first year in school this year. No more day care and preschool. She wasn't a toddler anymore. Like her sister, Hannah was a daddy's girl. She even had a little play section in Aj's office so she could work along side him.
Brooklyn continued to do what she did best. Her sculptures could be seen around Starlight Shores. Whether in the park or around the big hot spots in town. She also did a few art pieces for the elite of the elite of the town who wanted to include some added luxuries to their homes. Hannah had also picked up the creative bug. She enjoyed painting pictures. In fact, many of her pieces could be found around the Allen home. Most of them in her play room and Aj's office.
Aj: All of my daughters are extra talented. I'd say they inherited that from me.
Aj, although retired and really not in the nightlife as much as before was still a big celebrity. He was now the CEO of his own label. He was known for making small unknowns into big stars. People came into town hoping to make it big and hoping that he would be the one to spot them out. And when she was done with school, Sophia joined her father running his label. She was a great writer and had a good ear for music. She wrote some of the songs for his other musicians and often played backup in their songs.
She didn't care for being in the Spotlight, but did enjoy hearing her songs being sung and played on the radio.
She continued to keep in touch with Ryan. His stay ended up being long than he hoped. It was now three years and he had not returned back to Starlight as he had hoped. His term though was almost up so he would soon be returning back for good. Aj enjoyed having his family back under one roof again. His A-jets, as he liked to call them when they were all in the same room.
Brooklyn: So we have to get ready for the party tonight. Do we have everything ordered and ready?
Sophie: Everything has been checked off. Everyone invited on the list. Even Mark Neiman.
Brooklyn: Goodness, that man knows he likes you Sophie.
Sophie: Eww. He is the most conceited man in town. Always wants me to know how great he is. The only person more in love with Mark is Mark.
Brooklyn: Well we can't fix everyone. Just be nice. He is your father's biggest artist right now.
Hannah listened to her sister go on and on about Mark. She had always looked up to Sophia and wanted to be just like her when she got older**.
The party was a hit as usual. Brooklyn Allen was known to throw the best parties in town and this was no exception.
Mark had asked her to dance and although she wanted to say no, she was not going to be rude.
Everyone was having such a good time, that they had not noticed that someone new had entered the room.
Sophia could hear someone calling to her. But when she looked she couldn't tell who it was. Just then, she caught a glimpse of the newest guest.
Her eyes lit up as she excused herself from the dance with Mark. She ran across the room, holding her breath until the reached him.
It was Ryan. She jumped into his arms and they held each other tight until her feet reached back down to the floor.
Sophia: What are you doing here? I thought you wouldn't be coming for another month.
Ryan: I wanted to surprise you.
Sophia: Well I am.
Just then, Brooklyn and Aj came from the other side of the room. Both delighted to see Ryan. Brooklyn was the first of the two that hugged him.
Brooklyn: We've missed you so much. How long are you here till.
Ryan: Not long. I have a little over a week. Then it's back to finishing out the rest of my time.
Aj: Well you know this is your home son.
Ryan: Thanks. I was hoping you'd say that.
More people came over to greet Ryan and before long there was small crowd around the soldier.
Soon Ryan had excused himself from the crowd to go look for Sophia. She was out at poolside by herself.
Ryan: Penny for your thoughts.
Sophie: It was getting a little crowded. I figured I would just wait and get my time later.
Ryan: So here we are.
Sophia: Yep.
Ryan: I have to admit, I had this big speech prepared for when I first saw you. But now I don't know what to say.
Sophia: You don't have to say anything. Just you being here is enough for me.
Ryan: Oh Sophia. I've missed you so much. And now that I am here I want to spend every minute with you.
They hugged each other again.
Ryan: I don't have a lot time.
Sophia: Then we have to make the most and best of it.
Ryan: Promise.
Sophia: Promise.
Ryan and Sophia stayed outside the rest of the night. They sat wrapped in each others arms, just talking and holding each other.
It was late that night when the two of them finally went to bed. Neither wanted to miss a moment of being together.
By morning there was knock on Ryan's door. When he didn't answer, there was another one, this time he woke up.
Ryan: Come in.
It was Sophia. She was dressed in her underwear and walked towards his bed.
Ryan stood up.
Ryan: Oh no. I am not redoing this again. Remember last time, you came in my room.
Sophia: I do.
Ryan: Great, I still have the sting from Aj's punch.
Sophia: I thought you wanted to spend every minute with me.
Ryan: I do. I just love my life as well.
Sophia: Don't worry. No one is home. Everyone left this morning. Dad is at the company working with his newest client. And mom took Hannah with her out for a mani-pedi morning. They will be gone for hours.
Ryan: I don't know Sophia. Every time I get too close to you, something happens. I would just rather not chance it.
Sophia smiled. She walked over to his bed and relaxed on top of the covers.
Sophia: Then I guess we will have to make sure nothing happens.
Ryan looked at her. It had been years since he had seen her like that. Her body looked exactly how he had remembered. He stood there longer, intent to not do anything. And then soon gave up.
He walked over to the door to the bedroom. Locked it.
He walked over to the bed and laid next to her.

She put her arms around his neck and the two of them kissed. It seemed like hours they were wrapped in each other. Blissfully taken in each moment together.

Ryan: I love you Sophia.
Sophia: I love you too.
With only a week of leave, Ryan and Sophia spent every moment with each other as promised.
They went swimming at the beach.
Visited the town fair with the family.
Ryan won second in the hotdog eating contest. He lost to Aj.
And as always enjoyed the parties that were held at the house. There were at least two that week as Brooklyn hosted one for the record label and one just because. But like most great things, his time again, was coming to an end. As they danced in the rain that night, Ryan knew that he didn't want to go anywhere else without Sophia. Ryan and Sophia sat on the couch one afternoon. They had just finished watching a romance movie on the television.
Sophia sighed after the movie went off.
Ryan: Let's just sit here.
Sophia was noticing that Ryan was a little fidgety throughout the movie and even more with the movie off.
Sophia: Are you okay?
Ryan: Yeah, sure. Why you ask?
Sophia: I don't know. It just seems your mind has been on something else lately.
Ryan took a deep breath.
Ryan: I have been thinking a lot. About us. And I know that we said that we would take things as is, but now that I'm here and have been here with you, I know I don't want to be with anyone else. While I was overseas, you were all I thought about, every day. Your letters and chats kept me going. I don't want to lose that. Sophia: You're not going to lose me Ryan. I have to confess. I didn't date anyone while you were gone.
Ryan: Really?
Sophia: Really. I don't know. A piece of me just felt like I couldn't. I didn't want to be with anyone but you.
A tear fell from her eyes.
Sophia: Oh goodness. I feel like I'm in my own romance movie.
He wiped her cheek.
Ryan: I just want to know if you want to be with me just as much as I want to be with you.
Sophia: I do. I love you Ryan.
He leaned over and kissed her.
Then he raised up from the couch.
Sophia: What's wrong?
Ryan: There is something I have been trying to say since I got here. But I wanted to wait for the perfect time. I wanted to wait till I knew how you felt.
His palms began to sweat and he was obviously getting more nervous.
Sophia walked towards him.
Sophia: Is everything alright?
He held her close.
Ryan: Sophia. I want to share my life with you. I want you to be with me, not just now...but forever.

Ryan knelt down.....
Ryan: Please say you will marry me.

Sophia gasped.
