*I only noticed after I had completed my screen shots that for some reason, Charlies hair had changed style and colour on it's own. I decided to upload these shots anyway.

When I went in to fix it, the style he had has, for some reason, disappeared, so from next chapter on, you will notice his hair is different.*

This is my first story so please Don’t Hesitate to rate / comment.

I would like to thank all the TSR (and other site) creators for all of the CC that may appear in my story.

Thank you and enjoy.

Chapter One:

When I awoke the next morning I could hear voices in the kitchen.
Had Joshua changed his mind and come home?

I dragged myself out of bed and after showering, I put on my best feel good dress.

I did my hair and makeup and then, with my heart in my throat, I went downstairs to the kitchen.
“Look mum, Markus is making pancakes for us for breakfast. He’s really great. How come I haven’t met Markus before, mum?” Charlie looked at me expectantly, waiting for an answer.

I stared at Markus in shock, standing there in my kitchen.

He grinned at my expression, and giving a soft chuckle he leaned back against the counter and nodded his head toward Charlie, indicating that I hadn't answered his question.
Gathering my thoughts quickly I walked to Charlie and kissed him softly on the top of his head.

“Well babe, Markus is an old friend of mine who I haven’t seen in years. We bumped into each other Saturday night by accident and that, my sweet, is why you have never met him before. Now go and get dressed and do you hair while we wait for breakfast.”

“OK”, Charlie ran off at top speed, worried that he would miss out on the delicious smelling pancakes.
Markus turned to pile the pancakes onto a plate and placed them on the counter next to him then, feeling my glare on his back, he turned back around to face me.
“Morning”, he said.

“Morning” I replied warily.

Then glancing quickly toward the direction Charlie had run off in, I asked “Why are you here? And how did you get in? Charlie knows better than to answer the door to strangers”.
“The how was easy: I tempted him with the promise of pancakes and he caved. As for the why, well, you spent the night at my house, then you got up and left while I was out getting you breakfast, and you didn’t even bother to call to let me know you hadn’t driven your car off the edge of a cliff. I figure that gives me plenty of incentive to stop by and check on you, wouldn’t you agree?”

Rolling my eyes, I sat down at the breakfast counter.
“I am not that much of an emotional wreck. How did you know where I lived?”

“I asked around” he said lazily. “Turns out that you’re not too hard to find, seeing as your husband’s family practically built this town.”
Markus cleared his throat and asked cautiously “So, are you going to tell me what happened the other night that drove you across town and right into my arms?”

“No”, I replied.

We sat there in silence until Charlie bounced back into the room.
“Well, pancakes are done” Markus announced.
“Now, I would love to join you for breakfast but I have to be off somewhere. Quinn, would you walk me out” he asked.

Heading out of the kitchen he said “Catch you later little man, have a good day at school”.

“Bye Markus” Charlie muttered with a mouth full of pancake. “Thanks”.
Markus followed me to the front door but as I reached the door and started to pull it open, he pushed it closed again and I turned to see him standing only a few inches away.

I took a few steps back, but he followed and trying to take another retreating step, I found myself with my back up against a wall.

Markus chuckled. “Well, well. I think we’ve been in this position before, haven’t we?”
“What do you want?” I asked, cross now that my heart was fluttering a mile a minute, just as it used to, all those years ago.

“You know what I want” he chuckled again. Then his expression got serious.

He lifted his hand and traced the outline of my collarbone from one side to the other, then raised his hand up to my chin and tilted my head up slightly.

He lowered his head and lay a gentle kiss on my lips. I put my hands up on his shoulders to steady myself and felt my legs tremble.

He pulled his head back and looked into my eyes, and then with a sigh he pulled back.
I looked up at him questioningly, torn between relief and confusion at his sudden withdrawal.

“You’re obviously going through a really tough time” he explained.
“I don’t want to make things any more complicated for you than they already are.”

“You’re hesitating again Markus” I told him, deciding that I was annoyed that he had stopped before I could taste those lips once more.
“Oh, I’m not hesitating” he said.
“I made you an offer 10 years ago and the other night, after you tried to kiss me into a coma, you accepted that offer. Trust me when I say that I won’t forget it. But right now, you are nowhere near ready for it. I will be here as you’re friend, once again. Only this time, you know exactly where I stand and when you are ready for it, you only have to reach out, and I’ll be there.”

He kissed me on the cheek and then let himself out.
I stared at the door as it closed behind him.

Now I was more confused than ever. I loved Joshua, so how could I let myself have feelings for Markus too. I thought this problem was in the past.

I had made my choice ten years ago, and who was I to now doubt that decision.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change a thing. If I was offered a chance to go back in time and change my mind, I would still choose Joshua.

Joshua gave me Charlie and despite how things are now, we were happy once and wildly in love.

We had so much fun together, and after Charlie was born we were the perfectly happy little family.
...... ...... I sighed and walked back toward Charlie in the kitchen who was, no doubt, already diving into his second helping of pancakes.

“Oh, how things have changed” I thought to myself.
Thank you for Reading.
