Chapter One:
(10 years earlier)

“Quinn! Your date just arrived so I put him in the lounge room.” Maggie breathed out as she rushed into the bathroom.

“I just need to know, do you really want to go out with him tonight?” she asked with a look of concern on her face.

I looked at her reflection in the mirror and when I saw the look on her face, I turned quickly. “Why, what’s wrong?”
“Well” she said, the corners of her down turned mouth suddenly springing upwards, “I just think he’s probably way too much for you to handle. I mean, have you seen him? Guys who look like that are generally better suited to women like me. He’s going to eat you up, little girl.” I grinned at her. “He’s cute right!”

I turned for one last glance in the mirror and then smoothing my hair down asked “Do I look ok?”

“Honey, you look great” she replied, following me into my bedroom. “So what’s this guy’s story?” she asked.
“Well, long story short”, I said glancing at the clock on the wall, “His name is Joshua. He is good looking, he is charming, he is the son of Donald Olsen,” (gasp from Maggie) “and he is currently waiting for me in our lounge room. So, if you don’t mind”, I reached out and closed her mouth for her, “I will be going on my date now”. I gave Maggie a quick kiss on the cheek.

“Wish me luck”, I smiled, suddenly nervous.

She gave me a two fingered salute and said “Go get him Tiger”.
Two hours later, after fantastically wonderful conversation over a not so wonderful meal (my steak was so raw that I’m sure I saw it move), Joshua asked if I wanted to go somewhere quiet so we could talk more. “Well, I don’t know” I said, “The last time a guy wanted to ‘go somewhere quiet to talk’ he led me up the stairs at a high school party and, after getting a bit too grabby, ended up with a nice Quinn shaped hand print on his face”.

Joshua grinned “Fair enough, how about you choose the spot then?”
I thought about it. “Well, we could go back to your place?”

I laughed at the overly dramatized look of shock and ruined innocence on his face. “Why, Quinn. I’m really not that kind of guy, but if you insist”, he laughed.
I blushed and quickly said “I just meant that I don’t particularly feel like sitting in your car at the lookout, because that’s the only ‘quiet’ spot around here on a Friday night”.

“My place is fine with me”, he responded “And I promise, no funny business.”
I smiled, “Ok well, let’s go then”.
We pulled up in Joshua’s driveway and Joshua shut off the engine.
He came around and opened my door for me, and once I was out of the car he took my hand and led me up the driveway, then to my surprise led me round the back of his house and down a path to a pretty little garden.
After making ourselves comfortable on a small patch of grass, we glanced over at each other and Joshua grinned awkwardly at me.

I smiled shyly, suddenly aware of how alone we really were.

Joshua must have realized it too, because he was just as quiet.
We sat there a moment longer and then, unable to take the silence any longer I leaned over and kissed him.

The kiss only lasted a moment, but it was an exquisitely sweet moment.
So sweet in fact that I decided I wanted more. Much more, as it turned out. ...... At 6:00am the next morning, I let myself into my house and ever so quietly tiptoed down the small hallway and into my bedroom trying not to make a noise.

After changing into my pajamas I crept over to my bed, and pulled the blankets back planning to get in it and pretend I had been there all night, when…

I froze in place, and slowly turned to find Maggie standing in my doorway, shaking her head slowly from side to side.
“Really? You were going to sneak into bed and not share the goss with me”, she came into my room, straightened my blankets back out and lay on my bed.

“Shame on you. I demand a play by play. Come on, details.….” She patted the spot next to her so I climbed up and lay down.
“Ok, go” she said.

“Oh Maggie”, I sighed. “He’s wonderful. He’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of but, I’ve probably ruined it now though. I mean come on, on the first date! I’ve never done that before but I just couldn't help it. We were in a beautiful garden, and the moon was so bright, and he was so sweet and I practically threw myself at him.”
I looked over at her and expected to see my disappointment in myself mirrored on her face but, she was smiling at me.

Almost choking on stifled giggles even!

“What’s so funny!” I demanded, pulling myself up to look at her, hurt by her obvious lack of caring.

The smile left her face and she stared at me for a moment before speaking.
“I’m sorry Quinn. But you really are so melodramatic. You absolutely didn’t ruin it. I know this, for a fact.”

She stood up, grabbed my hand and dragged me off the bed, then led me into the kitchen.
“Why in the world do you think I’m out of bed at this ungodly hour of the morning? Huh.”

I shook my head at her, unimpressed, “I don’t know, you insulted your bed and it threw you out, maybe?”
Maggie ignored my sarcasm and said “Because the phone woke me”. She pressed play on the answering machine…..

“Hello Quinn, its Joshua. I know you only just walked out the door, but I forgot to tell you how wonderful I think you are. I had such a great time last night. More fun than either of us intended I think,” he chuckled softly. “Anyway, I was calling to see what you are doing next Friday night? I was hoping you would like to go out again? Umm, anyway, give me a call. Bye”.
I stared at the machine for a moment in silence.
Maggie leaned over with an exaggerated sigh and pressed play again.

By the time it had finished playing the second time around, I was smiling.
I jumped up and launched myself at Maggie who started squealing with laughter.
I threw my arms around her and we jumped for joy.
When all the excitement was over, we got dressed and went outside to sit on the porch and discuss what I would wear on Friday night. Thank you for Reading.

Hi Jada, thank you for your comments on my story, I really appreciate it. I have tried to make my chapters longer, but the problem is that my game is really, really slow, so in order for me to get the images for even 24 pages takes me about 8-12 hours (as I try to make my pictures perfect). If I were to lengthen my chapters anymore, I would not be able to upload as often, as I have a pretty full and busy life happening at the moment. I am glad you are enjoying my story.
