Hi everyone!

We're almost getting to the bottom of all of this!

XOXO Alessa
Being back felt strange, as if time just didn't pass here. Everything was exactly as I remembered. Students walking to their classes, studying under a tree, or grabbing something to eat at the coffee shop, which is where I was just walking into. I smile as soon as I pass through the door. The smell of coffee, the chatter of people complaining about their homework, or loudly voicing their excitement about the next upcoming party, was all too familiar. I had never been much of a party person, but I could definitely picture Sophie convincing me to go to one. I couldn't wait to see her. She said she had some big news and I had feeling I knew what she was going to say, I hope I wasn't wrong. While I wait for her to appear, I order a mocha and sit in a couch in the middle of the shop. No sooner had I sat, than when someone approaches me. "You?" I blurt out, and he grins. "Are you following me?" He teases, leaving me speechless as he sits right besides me. How the hell is he here now? I couldn't really say I was a believer in coincidences after learning about the supernatural. There was no way he was here by accident. He apologizes coyly, "I really hope I'm not frightening you. This is all a bit strange, bumping into you again."
I only continue to stare at him, distrust was evident in my face.
"I see you're not with your lovely daughter," he says, and that brings me to my feet right away.
"What are you even doing here?"
"I should ask you the same question," he stands.
"Why were you in Bridgeport yesterday?"
"Business. Why are you here?"
"I'm...visiting an old friend," I hesitate, and he catches me on it.
"Old friend? Or old boyfriend?"
His questions were far too personal, but what worried me more was that James' face came slamming into me. We hadn't ended things on good terms. Alarms start sounding off in my head, but I pushed them away as I spot Sophie.
"I gotta go. My friend's here."
He looks to who I was pointing at, and smiles, though he suddenly grabs my arm.
"What are you doing?"
He doesn't answer, instead leans in closer, and I find myself staring into his honey eyes, melting into them really. What was happening?
The fluttering in my stomach is there again, and my breath comes too rapidly, just being this close to him. I can't even move under his gaze, and I'm not sure I want to. I can feel myself relax, feel myself slowly start to fall, which is what makes my brain scream at me to look away. I snatch my arm away from his, and blink rapidly. "I asked you a question."
He takes a step back, looking at me with confusion and fright, as if I had just caused his demise. Without another word, he storms out the door.
"Wow. Who was that beefcake?" I hear Sophie's cheery voice ask, and I can finally breathe right again. "I don't know," I answer, trying to smile. She laughs then brings me in for a hug. "Oh I missed you and the strangeness you bring into my life!" I hug her back, and manage a grin, "I missed you too. What was the big news?"
She's so excited she's practically jumping up and down, clutching her stomach. "I'm pregnant!"
I join in on her jumping before reminding ourselves we're out in public and supposed to be adults.
"I'm so happy for you Soph! Have you decided on any names? How's Luke?"
"No names yet, but Luke is so excited! He even started building a crib."
"Luke? Building stuff?"
"Yeah I know, but I have a back up crib. There's no way I'm trusting him to make something decent."
We order something to eat while she fills me in on her job, her married life, and when I think I can finally get a word in, she mentions James. "I saw him a couple weeks ago. He asked me not to tell you though."
"Wow. Why not?"
"Because he's your ex boyfriend, and he asked about you. And...because I told him how happy you were with Aiden and little Meena."
"Oh. How was he?"
"He was curious about Meena. He was asking a lot of questions."
"What kind of questions?"
"Calm down Evie. It's only natural that he's curious. I mean we all were, and still are. You got pregnant while Aiden was all demonized and.."
"Okay! I guess you're right."
"He looked really different though. I felt so sorry for him."
"For James? Why? Last I heard he had graduated and was doing well. I heard he even married."
"Yes, but you should've seen him. He just looked so...heartbroken."
After promising her I'd spend the night at her house instead of in a hotel, I reminded her I had another stop to make. So, I pulled into that old familiar dirt road into Serena's home. Her house looked exactly as I remembered it, and when she opened her door, she looked as if she hadn't changed either. "Evie! I had a feeling you were coming!" She grins and I smile back as she pulls me into her arms.
"Then why haven't you been answering my calls?"
She motions for me to go inside, but says she never received any calls. "In fact, I tried calling you as well. Didn't you receive any of my messages or emails either?"
"What? No. Are you sure you've been calling? I mean, you have the right number?"
She nods, but with another frown.
That's very strange," she agrees as we sit in her living room. I had told her I had been calling, and couldn't get through. She said she had been having the same problem. If I knew any better, I'd say someone didn't want us talking to each other. "The last time we spoke, what was it that you wanted to tell me that you couldn't?"
"It's about Dominic. This strange boy that has been hanging around non-stop with my daughter. Actually, the one who's worrying me more is the shadow man in our home."
"A shadow man? Who's seen him?" She asks anxiously.
"Meena. It started about a week ago. At first she was scared, but now she spends it laughing with him. He's showing her how to whistle. Which is weird because she says he doesn't have a face."
"No face? You have every right to be worried. This shadow man doesn't want your daughter knowing his true identity."
"But why? Why does it matter if he's dead?"
"He doesn't want her being able to describe his features to you or Aiden. He doesn't want either of you to know who he is. He knows exactly what he's doing."
She comes to her feet, immediately pacing as she does so. "I'm assuming she calls him a shadow man because he appears to her from the darkness. He doesn't have a face, so that no one will recognize him, and I haven't been able to read him or even feel him which startles me the most. I can't see what his motives are, but they are definitely not good." "Then please help me to get rid of him. She's not even afraid of him! She says he protects her from the monsters."
"That doesn't make any sense. I've heard of shadow people before but they are entirely evil. It starts with poltergeist activities, things going missing, until eventually they drive their victims mad. This shadow man isn't one of them."
"Then what is he?"
"I don't know. Let me try to get a reading. Stand still," she orders, placing a hand on my head, and I shut my eyes, trying to not even breathe. "Nothing!" She yells in frustration after what seemed like an hour. "There is someone or something blocking me. Is there anything else about him? Perhaps I can ask around with some acquaintances. Someone has to know something!"
"Well Meena says he doesn't like when Aiden comes near me, and we first heard about him, we ran into Meena's room, where Aiden claimed to feel this hatred directed at him. Meena has mentioned several times the shadow man doesn't like Aiden."
"Anything else?" She whispers, eyeing me strangely.
"I've felt him come into my bed, and he whispered I was his." It terrified me even more spoken out loud. "Meena also said that the shadow man doesn't know how he feels about me because his heart is broken and missing."
"Then I know who it is," she replies softly, and I can see it worries her even more, if possible.
"It's someone who's very strong. To go through so much energy and power to simply hide his identity, is rare. He hates Aiden, is curious about your daughter, and while he claimed you were his, he doesn't quite know how he feels about you because you broke his heart. Can you honestly not think of anyone who fits this description?"
"Oh no," I choke out, clasping my mouth that has suddenly gone dry. That thought had been in the back of my mind, but I refused to believe it was true. Already I can feel my eyes burning, so much guilt running through me. He's dead. "James is dead."
