Back when Abd ar-Rahman came to this country as Senior Attache to his nation's Agricultural Ministry, he sought and obtained permission to bring his wives with him. Yes, his 'wives'. It isn't exactly clear these days, but the general consensus of opinion was that there were four. Certainly, three. The Attache also requested - nay, demanded - that his ladies be housed in accommodations with the utmost in security, since he was frequently absent from them for varying periods of time, while attending to Ministry business.
The Agricultural Attache was a very prominent and well liked member of the diplomatic community and, over time, his living quarters evolved from their original, make-do state to a more permanent establishment. Additions here and extensions there - until it was generally conceded by those involved, that the ideal layout for his purposes had been achieved.
Life flowed smoothly for many years, but this peaceful interlude came to an abrupt end when Abd ar-Rahman was recalled by his Government when diplomatic relations between the two nations became too strained to repair. The Attache immediately returned to his homeland, his wives [and yes, there were four] and children travelling with him. Their home became a rental property within the diplomatic enclave and many people - some with families, some without - moved through it's gates over a period of about eight years. . . . moving on when their official tenure was up or they were posted elsewhere.
Almost from the beginning, at ritzy cocktail parties, at casual backyard barbeques, and always outside the hearing of the Attache, a name had began to circulate - tongue-in-cheek to begin with, but gradually gaining legitimacy as more and more people used it in general conversation. When the Agricultural Mission was recalled, that name became 'official' . . . . . The Seraglio.
The Seraglio: If your Sims are envious of the security of those who live in gated communities, but don't have the wherewithal to do so themselves - then perhaps this is for you . . . and them?
Completely encircled by 7ft fencing, with gates at all entry points and with a quality alarm system, this property is just about as secure as you can get without armed guards and attack dogs, but still maintains a serene ambience internally. There are two, single garages separate to the main house - again, this had been an added level of security - but could be rectified if thought necessary by connecting them via a short breezeway, either side of the house proper.
The main livingroom , reception area and the kitchen on the ground floor have an appealing and calming green-and-white colourscheme - a co-ordinated treatment, which allows a flow-through effect for the whole of this floor-space - and, in keeping with it's origins, strategic use of decorative screens is a feature. The main bathroom is here also.
Up one level to the bedrooms - and more bathrooms. Here, there are 2 double bedrooms and 2 singles sharing 2 full bathrooms; a study is tucked in between the singles. In the midway between the two 'wings' of this floor, is an Rand;R area with a game table and comfy seating.
The master suite is on the top floor . This splendid retreat features a double bedroom with canopied bed and a full ensuite bathroom. There is also a separate shower in the exercise area just off the stair landing and an office with computer finds a place in the passageway leading from the bedroom to a sun balcony - this latter being furnished with table and chairs.
If asked to describe this home in just a few words, mine would be. . . . The Seraglio: secure, but not intimidating,
